I’m on CPAP. Everyone is doing their best to keep me alive but I feel traumatised. Family and friends are still asleep. Is anyone there to talk to me?

I'm here. I'm so sorry you're poorly :(
LittleSpyintheSky · 19/12/2020 05:46

Thank you Teabandit. I became very ill very quickly. I can’t get my head around it

By the way, my underlying condition, was some lung damage caused by radiotherapy to both breasts during two lots of breast cancer. Covid found the weakness and damaged them a bit more. There must be millions of women in a similar position.

I’m here also .... wide awake so you can talk to me x x

longtimelurkerfirsttimeposter · 19/12/2020 05:54

Here for a handhold Flowers
Sorry you're feeling poorly, hope you feel better and they are looking after you x

Frenchdressing · 19/12/2020 05:56

That sounds terrible. I always thought you’d be asleep during it. No idea why. Are you in any pain?

Faye32 · 19/12/2020 05:57

Ok so what have they said to you regarding treatment so far ? X

LittleSpyintheSky · 19/12/2020 05:57

Thank you Faye. I have to be on this for at least another 3 hours. I can’t just relax and sleep as I run the risk of starting a coughing fit. I’ve already had one of those with this mask on and I couldn’t breath at all. I’m so traumatised.

I survived TNBC with odds of 1 in 3 of not making it to 5 years. I have less than a year to go. I can’t let this kill me now.

I'm here too x so sorry you're going through this when you've had so much shit already to go through. A friend of mine who had BC is also in hospital with Covid at the moment. You will get through this! ThanksThanks

DarceyDashwood · 19/12/2020 05:59

It must be very scary especially at night no hope you’re doing ok and that morning brings some comfort Flowers

Zoflorabore · 19/12/2020 06:00

You’re a fighter by the sound of it op. You must be terrified. We’re here for you xx

BippityBobbityBoo · 19/12/2020 06:00

I’m here too @LittleSpyintheSky. I’m sorry you’re feeling so ill and traumatised.xx

Frenchdressing · 19/12/2020 06:01

You can do 3 hours easily. TF for phones. Keep scrolling for a distraction. Sending virtual hugs.

HMSBeagle · 19/12/2020 06:01

I'm on cpap for sleep apnea so only limited knowledge.

If it's the cpap that's grating on you you honestly get used to it fast. Its noisy but it becomes background fast.

I'm so sorry you are so poorly. Big hug from me. I dont even care if the vipers frown on hugs 😉

LittleSpyintheSky · 19/12/2020 06:01

I am being looked after. Everyone is being brilliant and being strong when I am being unusually wimpy. I need to stay on it as my blood oxygen levels taken from my artery are very low. I’m hoping I can go back on the nice cool ordinary oxygen mask ASAP.

I think some people do well with it. A lady across the way has slept soundly all night. I’m happy for her.

Bmidreams · 19/12/2020 06:03

Thinking of you, you're not alone. Do you have a happy place you can try and go to? I know that's an incredibly hard thing to do.

LittleSpyintheSky · 19/12/2020 06:03

Sorry if I don’t pick up on your names. I’m grateful to you all.

Frenchdressing - I’ve been on it all night

Always people awake on here, sorry to hear you're going through this. Hopefully you are getting good care.

I'm not keen on 'fighting' talk when it comes to illnesses Flowers

Frenchdressing · 19/12/2020 06:04

Well you’re doing well so far. Keep going. I just read it as you needing to be on it for 3 hours. Sorry I misunderstood.

QueenStromba · 19/12/2020 06:05

I know it's very scary not being able to breathe. You're on the least invasive form of ventilation and you're well enough to talk to us - both very good signs. Let the machine do it's work.

I was fairly stoic during treatment for both cancers even though the chemo for the last one was brutal. I understood the position I was in and what I needed to do. I can’t get my head around this. It happened so fast. I can’t find any happy place at all - just levels of hell. Thank god I was using an Oximeter and knew I was deteriorating.

Hopefully your body will fightback and start healing soon.In the meantime, CPAP is very useful to ensure you have adequate amounts of oxygen going round.

Thisgirlcanrun · 19/12/2020 06:13

I am here too - Due South is on the TV at the moment - have you ever watched it? X

LittleSpyintheSky · 19/12/2020 06:13

QueenStromba. I know there are worse options if I can’t tolerate this. I don’t want a ventilator.

I’m tolerating it better now, I’m am able to control the coughing. Every hour or so, they are letting me take it off for 30 seconds for a quick drink. It is drying out my throat and that increases the risk of coughing.

Everyone - thank you - this is really helping xxxxx
