Do you think we will be in full lockdown again in January?

Yes, probably another 4 week one.

Redbrickwall · 18/12/2020 10:29

Yes I do Sad

cologne4711 · 18/12/2020 10:29

Northern Ireland will be.

Not sure I agree with restricted opening hours for essential shops, isn't it better to spread people out? And what happens if you work shifts and can't get to a shop? Not everyone has friends to help, and they're banning click and collect too (though might be for non-essential items).

What's with the curfew thing? The virus doesn't come out at night!

Cornettoninja · 18/12/2020 10:35

Yes because even before the Christmas free for all the infection numbers are rising to a worrying level. Tier 3/4/lockdown whatever they brand it as this time and it’ll last through till at least mid-February I reckon. I don’t think they’ll put a concrete end date on it this time.

I think it’ll be/already is another ‘too late’ lockdown where it’s glaringly obvious for a couple of weeks that there’s no other option because hospitals are screaming that they can’t cope.

It’s so frustrating they completely fucked up the second lockdown. I think there would have been another one early 2021 but if we’d had a shorter one over the October half term or a couple of weeks extension on the one we had we would be in a much better place to keep a handle on infections.

QueenStromba · 18/12/2020 10:43

Yes, it's baked in even without the Christmas bubble madness I think.

hettyhooverdoover · 18/12/2020 11:15

Absolutely, but soon after xmas not in Jan. I think 27th onwards after the xmas mixing

AlexaShutUp · 18/12/2020 11:16

Yes, I think it's inevitable after the Christmas bubble fiasco.

Baileysforchristmas · 18/12/2020 11:17

How long do you think it will last for, until March, April?

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 18/12/2020 11:18

Aye

ancientgran · 18/12/2020 11:19

I'm so tired of it. I've tried to keep busy, tried to be positive, I count my blessings but I feel so down.

Hapixmas · 18/12/2020 11:19

I think there will be one in England ..hopefully they do it earlier rather than later to coincide with Wales and Northern Ireland to have a good impact. Hopefully only January.

AlexaShutUp · 18/12/2020 11:22

Hard to say how long. I guess it will depend on how bad the post-Christmas spike gets.

Might also depend on how badly we're hit by the economic impact of Brexit. If it's no deal and disastrous, the government might decide that a few more tens of thousands of deaths are worth it to stop the economy completely grinding to a halt.

Two such mismanaged situations coinciding in this manner is truly unfortunate.

EasterIssland · 18/12/2020 11:23

They said (dm) that 5 days Of socialising because it’s Xmas will cost us 25 days in January. I’ve already written off January and part of February.

Cornettoninja · 18/12/2020 11:37

I think we will see pretty strict restrictions until around then yes.

The biggest benefit come spring is that restrictions become easier to live with as opposed to them being lifted. It becomes easier to actually meet people outside so pubs/restaurants have a viable option to cater for outside groups and it’s just generally nicer to meet other people. That will be one of the biggest improvements for most people.

DayBath · 18/12/2020 11:40

What's the difference between a full lockdown and tier 3 now? It's going to feel exactly the same for most people except presumably a few more shops might close? I've given up on the high street now as I never know which shops will or won't be open and I've moved to ordering from the same shops online. So if they do lockdown in January it won't really feel any different for me.

I can’t remember either. When the shops shut and I can’t meet up with people it feels like a lock down.
Chaotic45 · 18/12/2020 11:42

@DayBath it's a huge difference for anyone whose livelihood depends on non essential shops being able to trade. Im not saying that lockdown is a bad idea, but it does make a big difference.

zafferana · 18/12/2020 11:42

I feel it's inevitable. Numbers have ticked up massively since the 2nd lockdown ended, now we're going to have this mass mixing of households over Christmas, which can only lead to a further, huge increase, and then we'll have schools and unis going back in the first week of January. All those things only point to one outcome - a massive increase in infections, risk of the NHS being swamped, and increased deaths. So yes, I'm assuming another nationwide lockdown-lite, like we just had, for most of Jan and Feb. I don't see how we can avoid it.

Loopyloui · 18/12/2020 11:43

Not actually sure how I and people are dealing with this as I cannot take much more and I am getting worse ... I know everyone is struggling sorry

RedRiverShore · 18/12/2020 11:48

I imagine so, furlough is until the end of April. Probably similar to November as they will want the schools open. It mentioned something about no commuting but surely some teachers, NHS and care home staff have to commute.

More likely everyone goes to Tier3 I reckon.

Baileysforchristmas · 18/12/2020 12:25

Tier 3 and full lockdown are different, most things close including shops accept essential shopping, back to only allowed out for exercise.

But in tier 3 you can't meet people except for outside so to a lot of people their social life won't really be affected, because who wants to meet up in a rainstorm now anyway? Take the previous posters point about those working in shops being affected but tier 3 is utterly shit, there's literally nothing to do at the moment apart from browse a few shops if you're so inclined. But locally a lot of shops have closed down anyway, our town is virtually abandoned as they all went out of business so round here all the labels merge together as there's bugger all to do anyway. Maybe in cities there's more going on but it really feels much of the same old shit round here.

Yes i agree

I think wales and NI have already confirmed theirs, can’t remember ahat scotland has said, but i think england will announce between the 23rd and 27th

Tier 3 here. It has meant that classes have opened back up such as swimming lessons and ballet. And non-essential shops have re-opened. That's the only thing I've noticed.
