Has anyone else lost the will to care?

I have. I barely care about anything anymore. I don't know what we are fighting for - if this is life then is it worth living? We are not living, we are only existing at this point.

We could be in for months and months of restrictions and there's even talk of a third lockdown. Because the first two worked so well?

In a few short months a whole year of our lives will have been restricted.

If there is light at the end of this tunnel it's a very long tunnel, and I don't think we've travelled very far.

OP posts:

@3littlewords - yep I saw a dear friend who I hadn't seen since March the other day in Tesco. We hugged, the first person I have hugged outside my family. . The people around us were not impressed. Lots of head shaking. Seriously, is this life now?????

Schonerlebnis · 19/12/2020 15:09

@GarlicMonkey 'cheat nature for a while' what a awful fucking thing to say. Obviously designed to wind people up, can't think of any other reason.
God help your kids if that is the sum total of your empathy.

Flaxmeadow · 19/12/2020 15:25

Some posters really need to learn to read the room. I don't go onto threads of people terrified of dying of covid despite being young with no underlying health conditions and preach to them about how good their odds actually are, because it's not my bloody place to. They have their threads with likeminded people for support and we have ours. Leave us the fuck alone.

The OP asks a question and invites a range of opinions. Whats the point of the posts constantly telling people to eff off or calling them names when they're are just joining an open discussion.

OK people are frustrated and angry with the virus and the lockdown measures to control it, but why have a go at other posters? It isn't their fault we are in this situation, they didn't release the virus to annoy people on MN, or make the lockdowns rules.

It's the virus doing all this. A tiny invisible enemy, with the capability to collapse health services for everyone. It isn't random people online you disagree with causing this crisis

MistressoftheDarkSide · 19/12/2020 15:27

Yep, the war comparisons do my head in too. Coming together to fight a known enemy is vastly different to being utterly divided against an invisible enemy.

I mean,I know we know a bit about the virus, and we have a prototype weapon, but the odds of "winning" change dramatically on a daily basis.

And my grandparents muddled through the war just the way we are muddling through this.

The situations are really quite different but equally disturbing and damaging to our way of life and our mental health.

Flaxmeadow · 19/12/2020 15:36

I'm done with it all now. Have been for quite a few weeks. I don't accept that I have to wreck my life & the lives of my kids so a minority can cheat nature for a while longer.

But if we had no lockdown, then the health service, and other services, would collapse under the weight of people needing medical attention. For a couple of days, this actually happened a few weeks ago in Naples. When people died on the floor with no staff attending to them. The hospital could not take any more patients. Not just for emergencies, but any patient and could not even attend to the patients who had already in the building

This happened all happened WITH lockdown and in a country with one of the best public health services in the world. What would have happened without it?

MarshaBradyo · 19/12/2020 15:38

It’s not like anyone thought that living through a pandemic would be a breeze. See movies on trying to be scary. But now meh.

Whitty said what’s being asked of us is hard and we’d get fed up. We are and there’s no issue with saying it’s hard.

Even more so if financially you’ve been hit hard or lost someone.

Jrobhatch29 · 19/12/2020 15:40

I've gone on anti depressants for the first time. I'm on maternity leave and my DP works really long hours. I am so flipping lonely it's unreal and have considered going back early just for some company!! I'm at the point now where I dont care if I end up in tier 59 and I don't care if covid mutates so it can whip out a machine gun and strike you down in the street. Absolutely fed up now! I will be seeing my parents on Xmas day whatever the rules as it's my daughters first Xmas and they have missed out on enough of her life. Thank god my DP is now off for 2 weeks. I'm going to spend it hiding in the bath drinking gin and eating crap!

Did you come up with that one all on your own?

midgebabe · 19/12/2020 15:57

None so blind as will not see

Well said
Flaxmeadow · 19/12/2020 16:05

No, it was in the newspapers a few weeks ago. It was widely reported in the international press

Flaxmeadow · 19/12/2020 16:08

...around the 12th of November to be more precise

RockPaperScissorsLizardSpock73 · 19/12/2020 17:10

Funny isn't it, they've known about the new strain since September and London were tier 2 and now suddenly tier 4 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ 2020 the year that keeps on giving. I reckon come Wednesday Christmas Day will be off for everyone.

ImAllOut · 19/12/2020 17:16

Well Wales is going into lockdown from midnight now. FUCK THIS ALL. I am so angry.

BonnieDundee · 19/12/2020 17:32

Wales has not long come out of lockdown. So obviously that worked well then Hmm

ImAllOut · 19/12/2020 17:33

Yes it's taken about 4-6 weeks for our cases to go up to critical levels following the firebreak. The lockdown was announced for the 28th three days ago and has now been brought forward to midnight tonight. So businesses have just been given seven hours to close. Fucking shambles.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 19/12/2020 17:35

Really businesses that have spent money making themselves covid secure should be allowed to continue trading, what was the point otherwise?

bumbleymummy · 19/12/2020 17:42

That’s really shit @ImAllOut. This whole thing is just ridiculous.

Orangeblossom77777 · 19/12/2020 17:45

I feel angry by the talk by Boris today assuming elderly will be around next year- some may not. It was particularly insensitive I thought.

Orangeblossom77777 · 19/12/2020 17:47

I feel the same jrobhatch am just having a glass of red now to wash down the prozac...

Janaih · 19/12/2020 18:05

No words. Im in shock. Sending unmumsnetty hugs to all.

MarshaBradyo · 19/12/2020 18:06

So tough.

Hang in there keep posting on here

SomewhereEast · 19/12/2020 18:07

Oh yes, Wales went ahead with that circuit breaker lockdown everyone was clammering for in October. Fuck all good it did them.
MarshaBradyo · 19/12/2020 18:08

I know. So many lovers of that ‘firebreak’ ‘circuit break’ rubbish.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 19/12/2020 18:10

I’m just so down with it all. Why is no action being taken against the Chinese for this?!
