Do you support this tier 0 over Christmas?

I can see why it might be popular, but won’t it just kill a lot of the people we love the most?

If the natural r0 of this virus is 3 on a run of the mill week last March

Lots of people were already isolating or reducing their social contacts by that point...

FourTeaFallOut · 15/12/2020 11:13

Oh don't RedToothBrush, I dread to think.

Bronzino · 15/12/2020 11:15

No. And it’s a big problem as a lot of people (me, but I can’t be alone!) are basically going to be bullied into situations that they’re not comfortable with because “it’s allowed”. I’m horribly disappointed at the weakness of the government here.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 15/12/2020 11:18

No, dreading January.

RaaRaaeee · 15/12/2020 11:19

@1990shopefulftm you poor thing that sounds horrific, hope you and baby are doing well now Smile

sophiestew · 15/12/2020 11:20

What Tier 0?

I thought the existing Tiers 1, 2 and 3 still applied all over the Christmas period, and the only change was that your "bubble" could be extended to three families? Confused

Yes but the press like to make shit up.
Snowman2020 · 15/12/2020 11:22

Yes, I can't wait to spend Christmas with two other house holds! My parents are the child care for my DS and my nieces so we see each other on a regular basis anyway

FourTeaFallOut · 15/12/2020 11:22

There's no Tier 0 it's just become the short hand for the lightening of restrictions but I do think it's a bad phrase that suggests a total free for all.

RedRiverShore · 15/12/2020 11:23

Maybe they should say that those with children under 18 shouldn't mix households as they are likely to be the main spreaders.

CabinClose · 15/12/2020 11:25

No. In particular now there’s an issue with a new variant in one area of the country, why would you then allow people from that area to spend give days travelling across the country. I do think there needs to be some sort of loosening of restrictions so no one is alone for Christmas, but three households and unlimited travel is too much.

1990shopefulftm · 15/12/2020 11:26

@RaaRaaeee we re doing well now, thank you :)

CabinClose · 15/12/2020 11:26

And I also question whether, if a new variant had been identified in the north, they’d be allowing northerners to travel to London for Christmas.

ginghamstarfish · 15/12/2020 11:26

As we can see, ( lots of examples on MN) that no matter government 'advice', there are many who think they know better and/or that their immediate wishes are much more important. So we're all fucked basically and this will keep on forever. Oh and they're probably also the ones who will refuse vaccination, what with being thick.

StCharlotte · 15/12/2020 11:30

@WankPuffins

And I'm loath to judge but I think families with secondary age children seeing elderly parents/grandparents is just plain reckless. Sorry.

And what if It's the elderly relative pushing it? Making the lives of their family a living hell if they don't see them?

That's the situation I have. My dad is 86 and lives 200 miles away. My children are at primary and secondary with very high cases. He's still being coming to stay once a month and will be back again at Christmas. He doesn't care. I already get emotionally blackmailed and keep being told if he hangs himself it's my fault (he's not suicidal, just emotionally abusive). If we didn't see him at Christmas my life would be made hell.

There are many others in my situation.

I take your point and I realise it's often the elderly relative pushing for it. So they're the reckless ones I guess.

Again, does that mean you think me, mum, sister should be illegal?

1 widow and 2 other single households?

notevenat20 · 15/12/2020 11:33

It would be nice if we could all just be trusted to make sensible decisions. My concern is that people seem to want to automatically do the max the govt is allowing (or a bit more). We won't be seeing my parents as I don't want to risk killing them. We can have Christmas when they are vaccinated which will only be a few months away now. What's the hurry?

OP posts:
megletthesecond · 15/12/2020 11:33

No. I don't even think three households should be mixing inside.

FourTeaFallOut · 15/12/2020 11:36

Nobody is talking with regards to your family AcornAutumn - would you like a caveat where we all follow our statements with 'but not Acorn's family'?

Most three household mixing goes well beyond a group of three.

pinbinpin · 15/12/2020 11:37

No, it' s ludicrous.

No, I’d just like people to be clear

Some of them will genuinely mean that three households of one person shouldn’t be allowed and I’m interested to know how high that number is.

AcornAutumn · 15/12/2020 11:38

And there are lots of families where a household is one person, it’s not a rare situation.

FourTeaFallOut · 15/12/2020 11:39

No they don't they mean the actual rule of allowing three households to mix indoors - for the country as a whole - is a huge liability.

FourTeaFallOut · 15/12/2020 11:41

15% of households in this country are single adult households, the chances of three such types mixing at Christmas puts your situation in a minority.

AcornAutumn · 15/12/2020 11:41

So would a max number of people be preferred?
