And I feel a little liberated.
There was a great buzz at the hospital like everyone was pleased to be doing their bit, admin, hca's to deputy director of nursing and medical consultants working on a Saturday to get the job done.

Really succinct information giving to make informed decisions for anyone with concerns, great follow up service.
Couldn't be prouder to work in the NHS or as someone with an at risk condition, having this service looking out for me.
Just wanted to share!

@ajandjjmum

So as not to waste any left over vaccines they are offered to health care staff in the vicinity

Who would suggest it was done differently, and why?

Infact I've suggested that DD (who lives in the same road as one of the vaccine hospitals) pops along there every night, to see if there are any left over! Grin It would be madness to see one drop go to waste!

I agree, to be honest even if it's Mike from the hospital Costa coffee that gets it, if it was otherwise going to go to waste then so what that he isn't over 80 or NHS staff!
foodtoorder · 13/12/2020 12:29

@LarsErickssong
Totally agree!

Great news op! A GP friend of mine also had his jab yesterday. The local hospital offered them to healthcare workers because they needed to use up a batch.
The light at the end of the tunnel just got a tiny bit brighter!

DunravenBadger · 13/12/2020 12:50

Fantastic news OP! Thanks so much for sharing. It's lovely to read positive news in this shitshow that's covid. Reading the thread it sounds like DH won't be able to get it - anaphylactic reaction to penicillin in hospital. But I'm so pleased people are starting to be vaccinated and gives me hope going forwards.

Liketoshop · 13/12/2020 17:29

SquirtleSquad
All precautions continue after being vaccinated for covid-19 and hand washing should obviously be second nature regardless..... people astound me by still not being very hygienic!
Post all vaccinations require a 15 min retention in waiting area.

Oscarsdaddy · 13/12/2020 17:35

Excellent news, can’t wait for mine but at 54 with no health issues guess it'll be a few months yet

Keep us updated with how you are feeling, any side effects, etc....

Carriemac · 13/12/2020 17:38

I had mine this am. NHS worker over 50 . DH had his today too , and spent the rest of the day operating on emergencies. Feel very lucky and was quite moved as we drove in this am for the jab., and will worry less about DH who is a cancer survivor and very frontline

Amazing Carriemac good to hear
munchkinman · 13/12/2020 17:49

How great. I would feel liberated too xx

HamishDent · 13/12/2020 17:50

It great to hear a first hand account of someone getting vaccinated! The huge effort which as gone into getting the vaccine to this point is staggering. A great many people have been working flat out for months and it’s a testament to them all we are finally able to start protecting our vulnerable groups and NHS workers. A phenomenal example of international collaboration.

notevenat20 · 13/12/2020 17:50

Does anyone think they will start vaccinating care home residents this week?

DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes · 13/12/2020 17:55

Fantastic news DH and I are both (a little bit) under 50 with no underlying heath conditions so we will not be anywhere near the front of the queue but Dmum and DPil are in the over 80 and over 70 groups and I cant wait until they are done so we can see them without fear of passing on a death sentence.
With the particular vaccine needing to be stored and handled in such a precise way I hope that, while the priority groups are being dealt with, that any left overs are used be that on NHS staff, other hospital staff, hospital visitors or even by yelling in the street to get passers by. It is such a precious thing that will fingers cross mean we can all start to return to "normal" that a single dose going to waste seems like a crying shame.
When I first heard that a vaccine was through testing I wept like a baby (and we have been very lucky in that we have not be particularly affect by c-19 other than the day to day restrictions) it felt like I had been carrying an impossibly heavy weight for months and although I cant put it down yet at least I know where the final destination is and that soon I will be able to put it down.
I am so happy for you OP and for everyone else that has had their vaccine or will get it soon.

They have already. My dad in a nursing home in Belfast received the vaccine last week

Bluemascara4 · 13/12/2020 18:00

I had mine yesterday too Smile

I'm frontline NHS / working on Covid ward and ITU.

Feeling great today , mildly sore arm but similar to flu jab and no other symptoms x

Wall0ps · 13/12/2020 18:06

I’m over 50, an Emergency Medicine doctor and CEV so have been shielding for a lot of the year working from home. I’m back in the lower risk areas of the ED now but it’s really not safe. Unfortunately my trust hasn’t got the vaccine yet but I’m really hoping it will be very soon so I can get back to fully doing the role I’ve done for nearly 30 years with a smaller risk of dying.

justanotherone123 · 13/12/2020 18:07

I had mine on Wednesday and the 2nd early January.

Like others have said, I had a sore arm for a day or two and have felt fine since.

Glad that this is a step in the right direction👍🏻

Well done to everyone who has had it or have theirs booked.

If you're sitting on the fence, read as much as you can and everyone I know who has had it feels good afterwards.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 13/12/2020 18:09

It’s great to hear such positive news.

That's great to hear! Why in England?

notevenat20 · 13/12/2020 18:17

I meant any in England?

Ddot · 13/12/2020 18:22

Good for you x
and it was obviously going spare so why not. Their will always be a few( fail to turn up ) we cant afford to waste a single drop.

Zeewest · 13/12/2020 18:45

Love that Trump has just announced it will be free to all Americans... of course if you have the money I bet you go to the front of the Q or am I being cynical?
Well done everyone who gets it in the UK, my husband is very vulnerable so should get it soon. I'm a bit younger with no under lying medical conditions and work for a GP so will get it in due course

Primulachristmas · 13/12/2020 18:45

Brilliant. My 92 year old mum is having hers this Wednesday. Every person vaccinated is a step in the right direction. We should celebrate every one
