And I feel a little liberated.
There was a great buzz at the hospital like everyone was pleased to be doing their bit, admin, hca's to deputy director of nursing and medical consultants working on a Saturday to get the job done.

Really succinct information giving to make informed decisions for anyone with concerns, great follow up service.
Couldn't be prouder to work in the NHS or as someone with an at risk condition, having this service looking out for me.
Just wanted to share!

Asymptomatic carrier Hmm

@Venustiger I haven't had covid thankfully.

@Furries it is IM but I would say more of a deep subcut like the flu vaccines. Having given B12 injections myself I would say this may be more comfortable to have but obviously everyone feels things differently.

@80sColourfulChristmas if you read the thread you will see this wasn't a planned part of the role out. They had less than 24hours to use the batch and they new they couldn't get it to where it was needed before it was wasted. Surely better to use it effectively than waste it?

@princessTiasmum

Just been on the news that some care home assistants are refusing to have the vaccine, this is wrong in my eyes, surely those looking after ill and elderly should have to have it or be sacked

This is unlikely to happen. But if it did, surely care home workers would look for another job rather than being forced to take a vaccine they do not want. They are human beings too, you know.

If the vaccine is effective and you are going to have it, you will be protected. Why do you care that those around you don't?

notevenat20 · 13/12/2020 08:46

I guess we would like to move to a stage where the nhs is 100% open. Can that happen if not all the staff are vaccinated?

For vaccination to be effective, we need to achieve herd immunity. Therefore sufficient people have to be vaccinated to protect the vulnerable, who can’t behave the vaccine.

That is why we need people to have the vaccine.

I think peeps have forgotten that we have been vaccinating since the 1940s. Vaccines have saved more lives than any other medical intervention. Moreover, our safety record is excellent.

Look up mRNA and the vaccine. Robert Kennedy Jnr has warned against it.

Oh well, that's it then, vaccine must be unsafe. Hmm

From wikipedia on Robert Kennedy Jr: He is an anti-vaccine activist and believes in the scientifically debunked link between vaccines and autism.

He's a lawyer, not a scientist. I'd rather go with the scientists.

Oh the well known virologist and epidemiologist?

Or the crack pot anti-vaxxer? Grin

Lindy2 · 13/12/2020 09:02

And Robert Kennedy Jnr's medical and scientific qualifications are???

Enough said.... I think I'll stick with the advice from those with actual medical expertise thanks and let Darwin's theory play out.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 13/12/2020 09:11

That is great news, thanks for sharing, makes me feel quite emotional.

Every person that is vaccinated is, hopefully, a step closer to herd immunity for the whole country and if health workers are vaccinated they are, again hopefully, protecting their vulnerable patients so this is good news for everyone and definitely not gloating.

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 13/12/2020 09:14

Great news OP Grin
Our trust has started too, over 80s and care home workers and hopefully ECV staff to start.

Waiting impatiently for my turn Wink

onedayinthefuture · 13/12/2020 09:29

That's excellent news OP. My neighbour is 95 and he hasn't heard anything yet but it seems many 80 year olds are already being vaccinated. Wonder when he will hear?

fullofhope100 · 13/12/2020 09:33

This is wonderful OP! xxx

whatswithtodaytoday · 13/12/2020 09:41

Thrilled for you OP, I think I'm going to cry when I eventually get mine! I have a couple of friends who are NHS and will get it soon, and I'm so happy for them (and relieved for one as she has an underlying condition).

It's lovely to read about people being vaccinated, the end is in sight.

Keith on Facebook told me not to have it......

Well done OP!

I’m so pleased it was used. Very grateful
to people working so hard atm on this.

For vaccination to be effective, we need to achieve herd immunity

The Pfizer vaccine has not been proved to stop transmission, so it will not achieve herd immunity, just protect the person who got the vaccine

I think peeps have forgotten that we have been vaccinating since the 1940s

You do understand that mRNA vaccines use new technolgoy and have not been around since 1940. Pfizer vaccine started to be trialled less than 12 months ago

‘The Pfizer vaccine has not been proved to stop transmission, so it will not achieve herd immunity, just protect the person who got the vaccine’

The Pfizer vaccine has not been proven to stop transmission so we don’t yet know if it will achieve herd immunity.

Designateddiver · 13/12/2020 10:33

Just to say they are looking at people post vaccine. I've had the vaccine and have the zoe app and the app asks daily - for 7 days I think-- about side effects which I have found reassuring

GwendolineMarysLaces · 13/12/2020 10:34

Oh look, the antis have arrived Hmm. The people who think that the Pfizer vaccine hasn't been tested enough but who evangelically believe the results from Andrew Wakefield's handpicked sample of 12.

So happy for you OP, as well as slightly jealous. Also think these type of threads normalising vaccination are a very good thing

neonjumper · 13/12/2020 10:39

@TunMahla

I thought 80 year olds plus and care home residents were supposed to be vaccinated in the December rollout? Are you even frontline NHS? :/
So as not to waste any left over vaccines they are offered to health care staff in the vicinity
ajandjjmum · 13/12/2020 11:37

Who would suggest it was done differently, and why?

Infact I've suggested that DD (who lives in the same road as one of the vaccine hospitals) pops along there every night, to see if there are any left over! Grin It would be madness to see one drop go to waste!
