And I feel a little liberated.
There was a great buzz at the hospital like everyone was pleased to be doing their bit, admin, hca's to deputy director of nursing and medical consultants working on a Saturday to get the job done.

Really succinct information giving to make informed decisions for anyone with concerns, great follow up service.
Couldn't be prouder to work in the NHS or as someone with an at risk condition, having this service looking out for me.
Just wanted to share!

@winechateauxjoy

This thread is making me all teary! Fantastic news for all of those who have had their first injection. I will be forever grateful for everyone involved in creating these vaccines - the medical teams, the scientists, the volunteers. I have hated this year and I am glad we are ending it with the beginning of light at the end of the tunnel.

I am very far down the list, but can't wait till it's my turn. I am a bit worried because I have had a reaction to penicillin in the past - a skin rash the first time and the second time a more pronounced skin rash and some numbing of my lips. This was years ago. I really hope this will not prevent me from having the injection, or hopefully the other vaccines on offer will be ok for people with those sorts of reactions. I think that because the Oxford one works in a different way that might be ok?

Anyway - congratulations to all of those and their families who are in this first tranch. You are the pioneers for a more hopeful 2021.

Speak to your doctor first to make sure it's safe for you to take 👍🏻
foodtoorder · 14/12/2020 09:26

@sushirolls I don't mean you can't choose to have the vaccine but it's a silly question to ask what is the point of having it.

What’s this about allergies to penicillin?

DDad was due to get the vaccine soonish, but has allergies to penicillin. Haven’t read about this other than on MN. Is this real?

hapagirl · 14/12/2020 09:34

Yay! I cried when I watched the first people get it on TV. I’m 10th in line (according to BBC) but so lovely to feel there is progress for those who need it most!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/12/2020 10:00

@DownWhichOfLate thank you. I’d heard that, but you don’t need to carry an epi pen for penicillin so I didn’t know that was included. Thank you.

bloodpressureboiling · 14/12/2020 10:05

There were two cases where health care workers had a severe allergic reaction to the vaccine. They have both recovered fully. They already were severely allergic to various things, and both carried Epipens.
I shouldn't imagine a typical allergy to penicillin would prevent getting the vaccine, as pen V is very common and is not an ingredient in the Pfizer vaccine.
When I got the vaccine last week, the questions they asked me was "Have you ever had an anaphylactic reaction before and do you carry an epipen?"

However, if there is any doubt, or your partner is worried in any way, then the best thing to do is speak to the occupational health team organising the vaccines, or your gp, as they will be the most informed and have the most up to date information

kittensarecute · 14/12/2020 10:22
@SquirtleSquad they have no evidence on this vaccine stopping transmission so I could still pass it on to someone who hasn't been.

I don't think we will be able to for. Long time
Oh here we go...

foodtoorder · 14/12/2020 10:29

@kittensarecute until enough people are vaccinated to make it safe to reduce restrictions.

Totally agree op. Being able to book my vaccine the other day was the best Christmas present! I get mine in 31st I'm really looking forward to it.

Toddlerteaplease · 14/12/2020 11:42

I'm frontline but not on a Covid ward. But am CEV. I was very surprised that thee was nothing to stop anyone booking it though. As our ward cleaner, who doesn't fall into any of the top categories was able to book one. The area if the hospital it's stored is crawling with security guards.

KarenMarlow3 · 14/12/2020 11:44

Congratulations! May you be one of the first of millions more of us! Brilliant news.

foodtoorder · 14/12/2020 11:57

Congratulations to all who've had and booked in! Exciting times.
Let's keep up the positivity!

My 86 year old Aunt - lives independently and help us more than we help her - had the call from her surgery to go along this afternoon for her first jab.

It's like the best Christmas present - we're so happy. We've seen her confidence start to deteriorate over the past nine months - it'll be lovely for her not having to worry any more, and get on with her (albeit restricted) life.

I'm taking her - make sure she gets there in plenty of time. And if there are any spare going, my arm will be through that window before they know it! Grin

Riv12345 · 14/12/2020 13:10

So proud of you op

I've just just put in for the vaccine
I'm quite high risk and work on the wards at NHS

They're a few of us isolating at the moment as we had break with 2 colleagues which have came back positive.
I'm back to work on Christmas Day.

Very scary time but this is a positive way forward.

Keep safe Everyone xx

ajandjjmum · 14/12/2020 17:11

Just come back from taking my Aunt for her jab - I felt quite emotional watching her go in. Her lovely GP came and collected her though, and she was the first at that Practice to get the jab - they apologised for not having balloons and bunting! Best Christmas present.

She said it was fine, and just like the flu jab. They're tough this older generation, just get on with it.

CrochetToTheMoon · 14/12/2020 17:19

I have mine booked for thursday and second one January 7th!

mousey37 · 14/12/2020 17:26

Well done you. Very best wishes x

alreadytaken · 15/12/2020 17:27

Drove past the nearest local vaccination centre today (I pass near it anyway) and the car park was full. Certainly a lot of people here keen to get it.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 15/12/2020 18:43

Found out MIL is getting her jab at the weekend. Brilliant news.

TeenPlusTwenties · 15/12/2020 18:47

DF had his today SmileSmile.

He was given a sticker! Grin (It said 'I have had the vaccine' or something like that)

Signaturesoftheworkers · 15/12/2020 19:41

My father gets his Fri! Am so so pleased for him! Such a lovely thread 💕

Signaturesoftheworkers · 15/12/2020 19:41

TeenPlusTwenties

Oh I so hope my Dad gets a sticker 😂

Riv12345 · 15/12/2020 19:44

I've just actually booked in for Monday 21st Dec

I know I'm being ridiculous but I feel quite anxious about having it.
Has anyone else felt anxious before having it?
It's just the unknown for me.
But I work on the wards and I am asthmatic so I feel it is the correct thing to do

foodtoorder · 15/12/2020 22:05

Ahhh I love the sticker idea! Especially for elderly people.

I wouldn't say I was anxious, it was more excitement I think.

I am 3 days post vaccine and all is well, same for my team colleagues who were lucky enough to get booked in.
