Matt Hancock Crying

I just watched the clip and I thought rather then crying it looked like he was laughing. Anyone else think it was weird. I was expecting him to be quietly emotional after this shit show of a year But no, it looked like he was covering up the giggles. Anyone else think this or am I on my own.

It's a very moving day. And whatever I think of him, Hancock has been in the thick of it for months. I'm not surprised he was overcome. Looked genuine to me.

goldenharvest · 08/12/2020 20:16

I like him. He's the human face of covid. He was emotional that's all

lovelemoncurd · 08/12/2020 20:20

I'm no Tory voter but jees that man has drawn the short straw this year! I think he's entitled to shed a tear. Have a good sob Mat you deserve it.

C130 · 08/12/2020 20:25

He seemed so fake to me. Unbelievable.

Ravenesque · 08/12/2020 20:25

@User158340

Really pathetic than some on this website won't give credit where credit is due, but that's the left for you. He's played a blinder with the vaccines.

What an incredible month this could be for the government. Got the R rate down, announced the Christmas amnesty and now the first vaccine roll out in the world. If Boris comes back from Brussels with a deal then even more amazing.

Let's put to one side the crying/not crying thing. In what way has he played a blinder with the vaccines? Have you been paying attention to the number of times he and the rest of the government have cocked it up royally this year? Now, yes, he might have pushed for us to try the vaccine out first but that's it. We had nothing whatsoever to do with creating the vaccine we're currently using. Nothing. The R rate is up and down and will probably go up after Christmas. As for a deal, let's not even go there because whatever that oven ready deal was supposed to be, it wasn't and it was so unready for the oven that if it had been a steak pie the cow would still be in the field happily eating grass.

The fact that we're currently rolling out the vaccine is great, really great but that doesn't in and of itself make up for the shit show we've had to deal with this year. Yes, whatever government had been in control would have had issues, it was never going to be simple, but from a track and trace system that was shit mostly because it was given to a government relative who had no track record (pun not intended) in the field and whose only track record was ruining companies, to lack of PPI because contracts were being given to friends of the government who had no background in that.

Maybe a man cried today. He should have been crying every single day for months given how impotent he is.

I follow the facts
Hancock is corrupt and on the take

BillMasen · 08/12/2020 21:14

This is a quite horrible thread. Insults, accusations of corruption, personal stuff. All because someone has different political views to you.

I shouldn’t be surprised, I know politics is polarising but it’s still disappointing to read stuff like that.

ListeningQuietly · 08/12/2020 21:18

The NAO are apolitical
THEY say he broke UK procurement rules

The R rate isn't going down in many parts of the UK, London is expected to go into T3.
The Christmas easing will lead to more deaths.

The EU/UK negotiations are Theatre, with both sides seeking to look like they have "won".

Hancock is a crook in a Govt of crooks & proven liars.

Crocodile tears i'm afraid, so far MH has helped the UK have one of the highest death tolls per capita, in the world.

FridayWineTime · 08/12/2020 21:54

@Xenia

Anyone saying they want to push Matt H or anyone down stairs - ie hurt or kill them - I am not sure saying that is lawful never mind in accordance with mumsnet rules!
Exactly, this thread is a wonderful example of the tolerant left.
VinylDetective · 08/12/2020 22:33

It’s not. Recognising what an utter shitshow the handling of this pandemic has been is hardly intolerant. If there was anything capable of being fucked up they’ve done it.

I happen to think Hancock was entirely genuine today and he’s definitely been at the eye of the storm, it must have taken its toll on him but it would be ludicrous to pretend this government hasn’t made a total mess of this.

Covidasaurus · 08/12/2020 22:44

I thought it was nice until I saw the footage and he looked totally insincere. He’s very odd.

NaturesEnd · 08/12/2020 23:03

I really don't get this. I remember taking a weird online test where you had to guess the emotions of people in a photo. I was confident I would be great at it, apparently I was terrible. Opened my eyes.

Is this another case of that? To me he was clearly tickled by the William Shakespeare name, then was feigning emotion whilst trying to suppress hilarity Confused. Worst interpretation would be dupers delight. Best interpretation would be childish glee about the name.

The corruption is sadly a fact. The backhanders to cronies are indeed "quite horrible", as is the UK covid death toll, but, by and large, not the people calling for better practice, which we need to go on doing.

Why are you disappointed that people are critical of the corrupt cronyism?

PJsEveryday · 09/12/2020 05:37

Just watched that clip. Really not what i was expecting from reading this thread. I was expecting eyes filling up and some emotion in his voice. Instead I saw a quick suppression of laughter at the william Shakespeare connection. He should have owned it and said he was amused at that connection, how lovely, but he went with Piers' suggestion that he was emotional because of the significance of the days events. That's what makes him look so insincere.

MaxNormal · 09/12/2020 06:40

I watched the clip and didn't see him crying at all. Very odd.

Yes unfortunately the cabinet in the main are both totally incompetent and deeply corrupt. Johnson with Cummings has managed to oust most decent Tories from the party. Anyone who doesn't see this is naive in the extreme.

ParlezVousWronglais · 09/12/2020 08:34

He is such an odd man I really can’t tell if anything is genuine with him. Also a Tory

OpheliasCrayon · 09/12/2020 08:45

I understand people being emotional but that man needs better acting lessons. Never seen anything so fake in my life. Oh apart from dominic cummings

AnyFucker · 09/12/2020 08:52

He quite clearly wasn't crying. He was suppressing hysterical laughing and trying to pass it off as being a bit "emotional"

Christ, give the bloke a break. Despite his high profile/high responsibility job I reckon he has some social anxiety issues he has to work on constantly. The stress of that will leak through every so often, especially after the high drama of the last few months. I am surprised he hasn't completely folded, tbh.

herecomesthsun · 09/12/2020 09:03

TBH, I agree that it looked like giggles rather than crying. He has form for inappropriate giggles. I'm not too bothered about that.

Neither do I think he needs to be kicked down the stairs.

What we do need is an enquiry into the non-competitive contracts for PPE that never materialized and the appointment of Dido Harding and other cronies. And the people responsible need to be held accountable.

category12 · 09/12/2020 09:09

He was laughing because of William Shakespeare and thinking "thank god we went with Margaret as the historic first after that interview!" and when caught, took the lifebelt of being "emotional" so he didn't look like he was laughing at an old bloke.

Riv12345 · 09/12/2020 09:12

The headline I read

Matt Hancock gets emotional on GMB as first vaccine is given

I watched it on utube

I have never seen him look so happy.
I think he was genuinely happy.

Also so proud of what the scientists have achieved

MaxNormal · 09/12/2020 09:19

AnyFucker after his ridiculous Brexit comments and having to sit through months of interviews of him smirking and evading questions, but mostly the corruption allegations, I can't say I'm that inclined to give him a break.

It showed his levels of empathy and his ability to think on his feet. He didn't want to offend an old man.

It was a good day for him yesterday.

Well, that's a generous way of looking at it. I'd say it's more like he's politically savvy enough to recognise a plausible deniability "out" when he sees one. Grin
