Matt Hancock Crying

I just watched the clip and I thought rather then crying it looked like he was laughing. Anyone else think it was weird. I was expecting him to be quietly emotional after this shit show of a year But no, it looked like he was covering up the giggles. Anyone else think this or am I on my own.

@Userzzz

Anyone who thinks he is being genuine in that video is very naive! He’s acting, badly.
I’m far from naive and he absolutely wasn’t acting. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen him behave like a a normal person.

I think he was genuine. Just not crying. Laughing through relief.

@NewNameNewJob

I think many in healthcare will recognise that - it's the point of hysteria that you reach when you finally see light at the end of a very long, very dark tunnel and this is the first time I've ever defended the man! It's strange, in HC we can see and do the most horrific things - children with significant burns, harmed by those meant to care for them, lives ended in a moment of madness, tragic accidents and we keep going. Then you lose your shit because someone moved your mug from the left hand side of the cupboard to the right and you find yourself sobbing in the staff room. I think his reaction to a gentleman called William Shakespeare from Warwickshire getting the vaccine over 400 years after William Shakespeare, of Warwickshire, who often saw himself out of acting work due to outbreaks of the plague, was his equivalent of someone moving his mug.
Just wanted to say that I thought this was a beautifully-written message, @NewNameNewJob

@ListeningQuietly

Matt Hancock is morally bankrupt and corrupt he has handed HUGE contracts to people utterly unsuited and unqualified (like his pub landlord) without complying with ANY of the procurement rules

unusable PPE bought in from forced labour camps in China
is clogging up Felixtowe Docks

He has NOT listened to experts
he has DELIBERATELY stopped local teams working well

history will not judge him well

and he lied about the "step father" who died

All fake news.
User158340 · 08/12/2020 18:51

Really pathetic than some on this website won't give credit where credit is due, but that's the left for you. He's played a blinder with the vaccines.

What an incredible month this could be for the government. Got the R rate down, announced the Christmas amnesty and now the first vaccine roll out in the world. If Boris comes back from Brussels with a deal then even more amazing.

Ravenesque · 08/12/2020 18:52
@Ravenesque

So why was he trying to fake crying by laughing. ?

It was just an emotional reaction . He never said he was crying I think it just took him by surprise , exhaustion for everything past and joy hopefully for what is to come .
I've no idea why he was doing any of it. From my pov it was fake. Maybe it wasn't, maybe it was an emotional reaction but I didn't and don't think so.

VinylDetective · 08/12/2020 18:53

No @Baaaahhhhh. All true.

BeakyWinder · 08/12/2020 18:55

Where is the video?

Chwaraeteg · 08/12/2020 18:56

Oh come on, he looked like he was trying hard to squeeze a tear out for the cameras. No part of that performance looked genuine. There has been an awful lot of saccharine, propogandist nonsense in the news today regarding the Covid vaccine. It's embarrassing.

FourTeaFallOut · 08/12/2020 18:56

You can cut that out too. I'm left leaning and I can see the good and the bad. It seems the left and the right both seem to confuse bitching at the opposition as an adequate substitute for actual discussion and critical thinking.

AnaisNun · 08/12/2020 18:59

I thought he was laughing and went along with Piers asking if he was emotional.

He’s got form for laughing inappropriately during interviews, including when enormous death tolls are being discussed, so it’s hardly a stretch to think he might laugh at “William Shakespeare”

I certainly don’t think hes the sort of man to join the emotional dots between this Shakespeare being vaccinated and the one 400 years ago, who lived through, possibly lost his son to - and wrote through- the plague...

MarinPrime · 08/12/2020 19:04

He was laughing, you ca tell by his eyes.
Hearing about William Shakespeare from Warwickshire set him off. He couldn't stop himself then realised he might cause offence so pretended he was crying.
Not blaming him at all. I'd have done the same.

sashagabadon · 08/12/2020 19:22

Giving one of the first jabs to someone called William Shakespeare is pretty funny. It certainly made me laugh. The ward matron or whoever looking through the list of inpatients yesterday that could have the jab must have been delighted when she / he saw his name. It’s brilliant.
Other countries should follow suit.

Jocasta2018 · 08/12/2020 19:23

@FatCatThinCat

I thought it was the first bit of honesty he's shown us. He's shit at his job, he's been in the spotlight all year so that everyone can see that he's shit at his job. Now finally he has a slither of hope that he can slip back into being a run of the mill, mediocre politician. I'm not surprised he's emotional.

Fantastic comment - might have to copy bits when filling in my next lousy performance review!

TheGreatSloth · 08/12/2020 19:24

The crying was utterly fake and repulsive.

I think this playacting is insulting to voters. It shows such contempt for us. In fact his crying performance made me feel physically sick & ashamed to be represented by him- I’m amazed anyone took it seriously.

I’m not generally a fan of our Tory government. Boris I think is a weak willed nervous opportunist who really is not suited to lead a country (or any other challenging enterprise). That’s bad enough, but Hancock strikes me as far worse - deceitful, manipulative, hysterical, unprincipled, a petty demagogue using fake emotion to try to divert attention from his failings. And the crying performance was an example of this.

The man who sent vulnerable people out of hospital into old people’s homes, without testing, to spread infection and death? Seriously? You think he gives a shit about anything other than his career and prestige? You think he’d cry about anything other than himself?

Skipsurvey · 08/12/2020 19:26

i think he was close to hysteria, William Shakespeare pushed him over the edge

Skipsurvey · 08/12/2020 19:27

i doubt he was actually crying

OpheliasCrayon · 08/12/2020 19:28

Can anyone post a link? Long day at work and Ive missed this apparently....can't seem to find this anywhere

They are corrupt self serving bunglers. Do you work for the Conservative party?
Callipygion · 08/12/2020 19:30

He was laughing at William Shakespeare. He was not crying, snakes don’t have tear ducts.

it is amusing, it was a bit unfair on him tbh

Unsure33 · 08/12/2020 19:52

If the daily Mail are reading this I still think your headline was bullying .

He definitely was not blubbing .

What happened to “ be kind”:

Oh I forgot you are all media experts in pandemics.

checkedcloth · 08/12/2020 19:57

Nurse leader here working in one of the 50 hubs.

Lots of emotion today - driven through stress, tiredness and an overwhelming sense of wanting to get this right.

I have little respect for this government but I can empathise with Hancock’s emotions today.
