Matt Hancock Crying

I just watched the clip and I thought rather then crying it looked like he was laughing. Anyone else think it was weird. I was expecting him to be quietly emotional after this shit show of a year But no, it looked like he was covering up the giggles. Anyone else think this or am I on my own.

It didn't look like real crying to me. His voice was entirely unemotional after. I thought it was entirely put on.

They're trying to max out the press coverage of the vaccine to distract from the brexit shitshow. I don't trust this bunch one inch.

PinkFondantFancy · 08/12/2020 16:59

Didn't look very authentic to me....

MarshaBradyo · 08/12/2020 17:00

He didn’t claim to be crying though

He was laughing and interviewers said ‘emotional’

He was clearly laughing - but from relief imo

VinylDetective · 08/12/2020 17:02

I don’t know why we’re not all laughing at this amazing breakthrough instead of moaning about it.

WhyDoYouAsk · 08/12/2020 17:03

Boris told him to show some emotion (great PR stunt) so he did his best.
Half laugh, half snivel. He recovered very quickly. He’s a cock.

derxa · 08/12/2020 17:03

@Xenia

Anyone saying they want to push Matt H or anyone down stairs - ie hurt or kill them - I am not sure saying that is lawful never mind in accordance with mumsnet rules!
Exactly. I don't know how MH has managed to get through this crisis. I'd like to see some of you try.
MarshaBradyo · 08/12/2020 17:04

Derxa yes I agree. Easy to snipe.

WhereOnEarthDoIStart · 08/12/2020 17:06

When this thing ends I'll be rocking in a corner laughing maniacally.

I am very willing to cut him some slack even if he was laughing.

User158340 · 08/12/2020 17:07

@BlueBlancmange

I'm no fan of the Tories but Matt Hancock comes across as fairly genuine to me. He doesn't give me any sociopathic vibes in the way some other politicians do.
He has an awkward demeanor but he's one of the good guys.
MarshaBradyo · 08/12/2020 17:08

I just heard him again on R4

Fuck it, made me laugh hearing it. It has been ridiculous. And I’m not even responsible for anything in any way.

pipnchops · 08/12/2020 17:09

I agree some people laugh when they're trying not to cry or get the giggles at inappropriate moments because they can't control their emotions (I'm guilty of this) but I really got the impression he was tickled by the name William Shakespeare in this instance. I saw him smirking when saying the name on another interview so I think for some reason he finds it funny. But maybe I'm just very cynical.

Fizbosshoes · 08/12/2020 17:11

@tara66

I did not see him crying. I don't think cabinet ministers have ever been seen crying on TV and I prefer it like that. Stiff upper lip; leadership; backbone and all that.
Teresa May definitely shed a tear or 2 in her resignation speech despite appearing devoid of emotion at any other time like Grenfell, Manchester bombings etc I think Tony Blair stifled tears when he gave a statement about princess Dianas death. Jaccinda Adern was also emotional when she made a public statement after Grace Millane was murdered. They are human, not robots.
ancientgran · 08/12/2020 17:12

I agree some people laugh when they're trying not to cry or get the giggles at inappropriate moments Oh this brought back the horror of my husband saying something silly the day after I had an EMCS, the more I tried not to laugh the worse it got. As my stitches broke and there was blood everywhere he got thrown out by a midwife who could have a whole new career as a bouncer. She was scary with him, lovely with me though.

FourTeaFallOut · 08/12/2020 17:18

I saw him smirking when saying the name on another interview so I think for some reason he finds it funny.

For some reason??? Imagine being interviewed, you have prepped for this moment for days and it's the culmination of a momentous effort of so very many people and you are heralding the beginning of the end of a bastarding pandemic and then when you finally get to it you have to spend all morning thanking William Shakespeare for rolling up his sleeve. I mean, yeah... that's not funny.

PandaBearCub · 08/12/2020 17:21

He looked like he was laughing and trying to hide it. There weren’t any tears and it’s usually pretty easy to tell when someone is crying. Those that laugh when they’re crying usually shake (body and voice) and sound a bit hysterical. Something didn’t ring true. Looked like he was following a script.

CarrieBlue · 08/12/2020 17:24

62,033 dead. He’s a great guy 🙄

onedayinthefuture · 08/12/2020 17:27

@CarrieBlue it's on Matt Hancock that over 60,000 are dead? Really? Have a word with yourself.

pipnchops · 08/12/2020 17:27

@ancientgran ouch that sounds painful!

@fourteafallout now you've explained it, I get it

nosswith · 08/12/2020 17:35

He is out of his depth as Health Secretary in my opinion. So I don't begrudge him emotion.

As opposed to people such as Michael Gove who are rude and unpleasant.

MrsMiaWallis · 08/12/2020 17:38

First vaccine in the world, so he's not done too badly.

mellongoose · 08/12/2020 17:39

Exactly this. Honestly, some posters on MN really do let their binary thinking about politics and politicians get in the way of rational thoughts!

I suspect it was relief. Politicians are human, whether you agree with them or not. Mistakes have been made, but credit where credit is due. He has been part of a relentless collective effort and we now have light at the end of the tunnel.

Good on him!

FreekStar · 08/12/2020 17:40

Very insincere- and fake according the The Metro's body language expert Grin

FreekStar · 08/12/2020 17:41

You can't actually be tearful without tears- there are some easily tricked folks on this thread!

CarrieBlue · 08/12/2020 17:41

Health secretary, his responsibility. Have a word with yourself if you’re trying to pretend he’s a great guy for buying in a fraction of the vaccinations needed after handing multiple NHS contracts to his mates/neighbours/Tory party donors instead of protecting lives, and trying to pass it all off as a British achievement. His party has dismantled the NHS and the rest of the public sector in order that the private sector bankers didn’t have to pay for their own mess. So yes, the deaths are at his hands and I won’t be forgetting that just because he shows some fake emotion when one person is vaccinated.

HighHeelBoots · 08/12/2020 17:43

ProudConfused
He should be crying. We have spent the most and have the worst outcomes in Europe
This government has ensured ordinary people will be crying for years to come. And brexit to cope with
The potential for vaccines to be held up at customs, no wonder they have had to rush to get them in. Yet Tory party supporters won't hear a word against them
