Does anyone think london will go in to tier 3 before Xmas?

OP posts:
peridito · 12/12/2020 18:27

I'm beginning to wonder if a national 3 week firebreak might/should be on the cards .

Youngatheart00 · 12/12/2020 18:27

@peridito something drastic is going to be needed in January.

I can hardly bare to think about how grim January is going to be.

Whattheactual20201 · 12/12/2020 18:30

It’s crazy here like I really hope so DC school ( we are one of the worse effected boroughs in London at moment )
Have just announced they are having west end performers in to
School next week
Classrooms up to this point had been bubbles and now the show will be 3 classrooms together in the hall
Plus parents haven’t been allowed in playground but Performers In hall no
Issues 🙈

Susanwouldntlikeit · 12/12/2020 18:51

Lucky kids! At least someone (ie the school staff) cares about them having some normality as a respite from the doom-mongering parents.

From Hugh Pym’s twitter
“Health ministers and officials are understood to be “deeply concerned” about a sharp rise in virus cases across London. MPs from the capital were briefed this morning on the latest data. It’s understood that a move of London to Tier 3 is highly likely possibly today.“

Going into tier 3 AHEAD of the scheduled review date (which wasn't due to go into effect until after midnight friday).

They are WORRIED.

Seems sensible tbh. Can you imagine the state of the last friday before christmas with t3 coming in at midnight?

ceeveebee · 14/12/2020 12:34

Matt Hancock statement at 330pm apparently. Obviously this is all speculation until confirmed but seems likely...

Delatron · 14/12/2020 13:06

Well whatever the papers report seems to happen and the press conference sounds ominous. Devastating for hospitality however there’s no pint in waiting until Wednesday to announce it and then implement it on Friday. Wednesday/Thursday would see some crazy last hurrahs! They need to announce it and it come in to immediate effect.

Yeah, it'll encourage people to back out hospitality while they're still open and then when they are shut all pile into the shops anyway.
User158340 · 14/12/2020 13:19

*pack out

Well you'd HOPE that the government have learnt this lesson after previously T3 announcement. But I've got to be honest, I'm not holding my breathe.
tootyfruitypickle · 14/12/2020 14:21

Think if it was immediate it would be a Boris presser. There are theatres etc that will have people on their way by 3.30, so I don’t think it will be from today but maybe from weds review date .

No.

We would Johnson want to give the photo opportunity of a presser with the caption 'Johnson cancels christmas festivities early'.

He always sends out a minion to do they dirty work unless it involves a 'Churchill Opportunity'. Hancock is his covid whipping boy whilst Gove is deployed when shit gets really bad and everyone else has refused to get a beating from the press.

Does Johnson work Mondays?

ceeveebee · 14/12/2020 14:29

Johnson has the excuse of dealing with Brexit this week...
I don’t think it will be immediate, I think it will be from Wednesday

tootyfruitypickle · 14/12/2020 14:53

Well yes that’s a point it could be Boris’s day off

RedToothBrush · 14/12/2020 14:54

You mean like Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays

I'll give him his dues. He does seem to work Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Parker231 · 14/12/2020 14:56

Radio 5 live have just announced London to go into tier 3. Formal announcement shortly.

RedToothBrush · 14/12/2020 14:59

Jessica Elgot @jessicaelgot
Tier 3 restrictions will apply from 00.01 Wednesday - a big blow for bars and restaurants ahead of Xmas. But the numbers really do speak for themselves. Almost 24,000 confirmed cases in London in a week, and cases rising in every borough.

ineedaholidaynow · 14/12/2020 15:00

From when?

RedToothBrush · 14/12/2020 15:00

Nick Eardley@nickeardleybbc
It’s understood parts of Essex and Hertfordshire will also enter Tier 3

willsantausesantatize · 14/12/2020 15:03

Which parts of Essex? Can't find anything online.

RedToothBrush · 14/12/2020 15:04

Not sure its been announced wills.

If I see I will post.

TicTacTwo · 14/12/2020 15:05

Matt Hancock will speak at 3:30pm to the Commons about this
