Ridiculous/funny things that have changed ‘due to covid’

We were told this weekend that dominos can’t do half and half pizzas at the moment. We asked why and they just said due to covid Hmm

Gardener can only do every three weeks not every two...due to covid.

Haven’t been able to see a dentist since January. Covid means teeth are no longer a health concern!

Anyone else?!

At my DS primary they are only allowed 2 in the toilet at a time. They have to wait in a queue outside which isn't social distanced so what's the point? My y3 little boy wet himself at school last week for the first time ever because he was so desperate and the the queue was really long! They also spent money creating handwashing and sanitising stations at all the outdoor play equipment....but it is still taped up!

Blocksoftwo · 30/11/2020 19:03

@Comefromaway

Dominoes I think are still on a reduced menu to make social distancing easier and they also don't physically touch the pizza's at all after they are out of the oven.

How does a reduced menu make social distancing easier?!

@OpposableThumbs2

I can't walk round the Christmas tree farm to choose a tree because of covid. I can walk around the wood with other types of trees a mile away though which generally has more people.

😂 I honestly think the covid excuse is something else!!!!

One i forgot... client who said they couldn’t pay our bills for another month due to covid. We asked if they were in financial difficulty and did they need us to extend payment date for longer. He said no, business was doing well (think supermarket client!!!) Hmm

@DuckingFogg totally hear you on the supplier front. When you’re literally asking for half and half on a menu they DO have on offer but covid won’t allow...it makes the mind boggle.

That kids can’t take things in with them to school from home in their bag, such as Christmas cards (as instructed today)
But they are ok with cash donations for a multitude of things and staff gifts

MillieEpple · 30/11/2020 19:22

The only bonkers thing I had was having my temperature checked before entering the dental surgery and then having to answer 'do you have a temperature?' I said i didnt know and could she tell me as she just took it' and she wouldnt let me in as i didnt confirm. The dentist then had to authorise my entry. I felt like a right plumb as i was just making a joke.

Blocksoftwo · 30/11/2020 19:31

@HarryLimeFoxtrot what on Earth?!?

I have no idea. It’s not like anyone is going to stay on the train longer than necessary to use the WiFi. Literally no one thinks “this is my stop, but I’ll stay on the train a bit longer to use the WiFi.” And I’m pretty sure Covid isn’t transmitted by WiFi. So it’s a mystery.

If it’s anything like McDonalds it’s because there’s fewer staff which they say is to allow physical distancing of staff. But it’s because their sit in parts are currently closed so they have less staff in to save money

Orangeblossom7777 · 30/11/2020 19:44

Have not had problems with dentists, maybe it varies. have seen them twice recently for emergency treatment. As a bonus the insurance place gave a payment holiday but at the same time honoured paying for the treatments, which was good. Still not doing routine yet though.

NoEffingWay · 30/11/2020 19:50

Specsavers charged me £25 for an eye test 'because of covid'?? I purchased two pairs of glasses and had to pay for the test on top of that.
In the past 28 years I have paid for precisely 0 eye tests as the opticians want to sell you glasses.

loulouljh · 30/11/2020 19:55

Definitely the dentist..we have had to give up with the NHS one as they had no idea whatsoever when they could see patients again! ludicrous...

amicissimma · 30/11/2020 20:30

Toilet cleaning. Has to be much more rigorous 'due to Covid', which is not primarily spread via surfaces, plus we have the opportunity to wash our hands.

However, I'm all for clean toilets. But what on earth were they doing before when we only had to worry about such things as bird flu, polio, TB, typhoid, measles, chicken pox and the whole A-Z of pathogens which are always around to a greater or lesser extent in the community and many, such as norovirus and other diarrhoeas, are very much spread through toilet-related activities?

See also public transport. And schools.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/11/2020 21:10

My reception age ds can only bring his reading book home on a Thursday, but every single day he brings home armfuls of beautiful drawings papers. One activity a few weeks ago was writing letters and "posting" them and he brought home lots of sealed envelopes with letters in...yes, the activity that day involved licking paper in a room full of 4 year olds and bringing them home

DuckingFogg · 30/11/2020 21:21

Yeah that doesn't make much sense, but then I'd bet that the rule has probably been made by someone in an office now wfh that's never made a pizza in their life, much less served a customer. Half the problem with customer service, and it's perceived poorness is the way a lot of places take away the autonomy of their staff and replace it with policies and disciplinary action for not following those policies looking at you WHSmith!

And a reduced menu can mean less people on site, especially as someone mentioned, in places like MC Donald's, but also in places where you traditionally have different chefs/KPs doing different jobs, cut the menu and fewer people can do it allowing less people in the same space. The kitchen I worked in did not lend itself to social distancing shoe cupboard very easily.

Onedropbeat · 30/11/2020 21:27

My hairdresser charged me an extra £5

When I queried it they said it was to cover PPE

The person cutting my hair didn’t wear a mask and I wore my own mask

pinfloy · 30/11/2020 21:31

Dominoes stopped doing gluten free pizzas back in March due to covid. Not yet reintroduced. Supposedly due to social distancing in their kitchens meaning they could only serve a limited menu. They have however managed to bring out a whole load of vegan options.

Candycats · 30/11/2020 21:38

@Jourdain11 this really made me laugh Grin

mollypuss1 · 30/11/2020 21:40

Can’t get squeezy marmite in supermarkets anymore cos of Covid

I miss squeezy marmite Sad

TattyDevine · 30/11/2020 21:43

My friend, a cancer survivor, couldn't get a blood test "because Covid". If you don't have Covid, the GP doesn't want to know, and if you do, they definitely don't want to know. They said "only if it's life or death"

She managed to get it sorted through her private oncologist, which isn't quite his remit but, COVID. And heaven forfend anyone else should do it.

She didn't give him COVID thankfully but he did confirm her cancer is back. She's having a double mastectomy next week.

Turns out it was life or death after all.

But not fucking COVID.

Sorry, but I'm angry and I don't quite know how to process it.

BeakyWinder · 30/11/2020 21:55

It won't let me quote but like the PP's we have a father and 2 sons at work, and before the new rules they joked they should eat their Christmas dinner in the office so they can be together.

bumblenbean · 30/11/2020 21:59

Some of these are utterly non-sensical but also laughable in their absurdity. The WiFi Grin

But some are actually no laughing matter like TattyDevine’s friend - absolutely scandalous and inexcusable. There does seem to be something of a lottery when it comes to dentists and doctors- I had a phone apt with the GP about breast pain and even though she didn’t think it was anything worrisome she offered to see me in person which I was really (pleasantly) surprised at! It really is outrageous though that some people can’t access urgent GP care

YouLookNiceJackie · 30/11/2020 22:01

My son and I went to some show caves on a tour and they asked us to wash our hands and use alcohol gel to keep the cave sanitised!
