Ridiculous/funny things that have changed ‘due to covid’

We were told this weekend that dominos can’t do half and half pizzas at the moment. We asked why and they just said due to covid Hmm

Gardener can only do every three weeks not every two...due to covid.

Haven’t been able to see a dentist since January. Covid means teeth are no longer a health concern!

Anyone else?!

Detentions now are rarely given in my sons school due to COVID , despite the kids mixing all day with each other there is a max limit of 5 spaces for detention Grin
The kids have had a field day with this knowledge

Jovial I’m in retail. Many of our shops said no to cash. I didn’t because it’s all money in the pot and I really need my boutique to remain open. However, paying cash in is a real ballache. Our bank has cut their trading hours and the queue is enormous so I may pay someone an hour’s wages to pay in the cash. Few people social distance in the queue, people do their slightly pushy thing because they want the line to be quicker. That in turn, means someone less on the shop floor taking money, helping customer or asking people to sanitise etc. Budget for staffing is cut because we are on our knees. It isn’t always because businesses want to just be cashless.

I find it odd that I can be in a classroom with 30 children and 2 other adults all day but I can't quickly nip in my sisters house to look at the decorating she's done! Of course I get the logic behind it - we need schools open and we also need to stop unnecessary contact - but it just seems really strange!

Toddlerteaplease · 30/11/2020 13:48

@MangoM we've got them. It really makes me laugh when you enter a lift and everyone stands with their back to your

Toddlerteaplease · 30/11/2020 13:52

I saw a hilarious meme the other day that said; "you can't go to your mums for lunch, but can have your minge waxed by a total stranger. What a time to be alive"

Sums it up really!

Polkadotties · 30/11/2020 14:28

I can visit my dentist as I am a private patient, my OH who is a NHS patient cannot visit the same dentist 🤷🏼‍♀️

badger2005 · 30/11/2020 14:33

I'm not in the UK and we were told no pumpkin spice lattes in Starbucks this autumn due to covid (probably more like post-covid cost cutting). But people complained and the PSL made its triumphant return.

I tried one of these in the autumn - I was very excited because I kept seeing adverts for it and had never had one - but I thought it was horrible and couldn't finish it. Do people really like them?!

(Missed point of thread)

SillyOldMummy · 30/11/2020 14:37

I wasn't allowed to step inside the dentist's reception area to help my 84 year old mother through the door, because of covid. Even though I had a mask on and there is ample room in the reception and I told them I am her bubble. No, I was yelled at to "STAY OUTSIDE, YOU ARE NOT PERMITTED TO ENTER!" So I had to stand outside and watch my mum struggle to step over the threshold. (Suppose I should be grateful she got an appointment, based on some of the previous posts!)

It did seem ridiculous. Took my daughter there a few weeks later and was allowed to accompany her in.

SillyOldMummy · 30/11/2020 14:40

Another one. Toddler was very poorly, high fever, suspected urine infection. Doctor had phone consultation with me, told me to bring a urine sample to the GP surgery for testing. I took the sample. Receptionist says they can't accept samples for testing because of covid. But, erm, I literally just came here with the sample because your doctor told me to bring it...

Instead of going left 2m to the office next door to mine, instead I have to go right, through a door (touching a handle), through another door (touching another handle), through the canteen, through an automatic door, into the reception area and into the office next door, because of Covid and it's incredible powers to only transmit in one direction

FlyingFlamingo · 30/11/2020 14:46

I got turned away from a local bakery for only having a £10 note, they said they couldn’t give me any change, and I couldn’t use my card because I was spending less than £5. So instead of supporting a local business I went and bought my bread from the Co op next door Hmm

UnholyConfessions · 30/11/2020 14:48

Tip closed and green garden waste collections cancelled because of covid. Clearly not taking into account with everyone at hone immaculate gardens and decluttering became a huge thing. Fly tipping went up.

School closing early on a Friday. Playing their part to beat COVID. 🤨

BogRollBOGOF · 30/11/2020 14:54

Closing an open air courtyard at the visitor centre of a country park for social distancing meaning I had to stand for 10+ minutes waiting outside the Gents for a dyspraxic 9yo DS to clean the mud off himself.

While the two mums with prams and toddlers were in the area faffing around with the Ladies it was rather a squash against the barrier to encourage social distancing Confused

Svrider · 30/11/2020 14:55

Carnt get school shoes from matalan. Last time I went I was pretty much the only person in the shop.
No, coz Covid
Had to go to Asda
Absolutely packed
Couldn't try shoes on
Coz Covid

Got home
Didn't fit

Took them back (still packed with people jostling and pushing.

Customer services not open
(Covid)

One way system to cigarette kiosk for returns

Had to struggle thru the entire shop to get to cigarette kiosk (approx 4m away from entrance (other entrance closed, Covid))

So that was nice

Firevixen · 30/11/2020 14:56

No toffee crumble since March due to covid! Apparently the factory is in Spain and has been closed for months. I need my toffee crumble fix!😂🙈

Nutrigrainygoodness · 30/11/2020 14:58

I can sit next to my mum in our office at work, we can have lunch together at work but i can't go to her house.

Dominoes I think are still on a reduced menu to make social distancing easier and they also don't physically touch the pizza's at all after they are out of the oven.

I can sit in the office (and am doing so at the moment) opposite my mum with my dad to the left of me and ,my brother in the next room but I can't pop round their house for a cup of tea.
Scarby9 · 30/11/2020 15:00

@Polkadotties
My friends, who are private patients (pay as you go) have been back to our dentists.
I am on Denplan (pay every month and have continued to do all through the pandemic) and there is no space for me yet.

Macaroni46 · 30/11/2020 15:01

My dentist rebooked my January appointment to September because of covid. Here's hoping my teeth stay good!

NotDesmondsBoat · 30/11/2020 15:02

Our local forest has a new visitor's centre, they have closed off every other toilet cubicle. Coz covid. (but all sinks are open.... Which are right next to each other)

SpaceOp · 30/11/2020 15:05

A lot of the reduced menu ones are apparently also about reduced footfall and therefore too much wastage. Which I get. And totally explains why the cafe at my gym has a menu filled with chicken.... But it's incredibly frustrating.

School early closing might be because of deep cleaning? Our school hasn't asked us to collect kids early this school year but during original lockdown when some children were allowed back we only went back 4 days a week so that they could deep clean on the Friday.

I think that's about giving staff PPA time without having to expose the normal PPA cover teachers to a whole school full of children

OpposableThumbs2 · 30/11/2020 15:13

I can't walk round the Christmas tree farm to choose a tree because of covid. I can walk around the wood with other types of trees a mile away though which generally has more people.
