Ridiculous/funny things that have changed ‘due to covid’

We were told this weekend that dominos can’t do half and half pizzas at the moment. We asked why and they just said due to covid Hmm

Gardener can only do every three weeks not every two...due to covid.

Haven’t been able to see a dentist since January. Covid means teeth are no longer a health concern!

Anyone else?!

First world problem but my son asked me at the weekend
‘How come McDonalds have stopped their Breakfast wrap due to their limited Covid menu but can sell completely new burgers ?’

@VulvaPerson and today, 4 toners arrived. Therefore I can officially announce that the pandemic is over. (That Must have promoted by the vaccine?! )

As you were, people.

CrochetToTheMoon · 09/12/2020 14:34

My kids cant take their bags to nursery as its stuff “from home”. Yet my actual kids and all their clothes etc are from home.

Also we can’t hand them anything that isnt in a washable plastic bag - like spare clothes etc, yet if the kids need changed in nursery they can hand us the clothes. Eh?

Oh, and they have forms to complete if theres been an accident. You take a clean pen from a box, sign the sheet then hand the “dirty” pen back to the nursery teacher. Bizarre.

Fantastic news Grin

Today, we were informed that the kids have an xmas party at school next Wednesday. So they have to take in their party clothes on Friday, to quarantine them?!??! Hmm

Has there been a load of infections from touching clothes or something?

Its odd as for PE, they tell them to come in in PE kit and stay in it all day. But for party, we have a quarantine room for dresses..weird.

RaggieDolls · 09/12/2020 21:03

@VulvaPerson, you win the prize. That is the weirdest of them all. The children are from home and mix all day long in clothes from home. What on earth are they thinking Confused

Can someone explain to me why libraries are closed? Every single one in my area is shut "due to Covid". If they limit/have timed entry and ensue everyone wears a mask I don't see the issue with opening?

Shopaholic100 · 09/12/2020 21:13

Arrows in the card factory just stop randomly at a certain point in the store, near the with sympathy cards, I felt like such a rebel because I broke the arrow rule. Well it was break the rule or stay there until COVID 19 is eradicated!

SpnBaby1967 · 10/12/2020 13:11

One way systems are bonkers. Instead of running into store, straight to what I want & back out again I now have to do a lap of honour and spend 3 times as long in the store as pre covid. How on earth is this better??

School books are to be returned on a Monday and quarantined for 2 days. I mean, is there an outbreak of covid on school books? The one my daughter bought home this week had a chewed up jelly tot stuck in the pages, I find that more concerning Xmas Grin

SpnBaby1967 · 10/12/2020 13:12

Oh and not forgetting my 11 year old needing to do homework for lessons she has never had because covid means music and art lessons cant happen, but here, have some homework Xmas Hmm

ChessieFL · 10/12/2020 13:30

@Eastie77 that could be a staffing issue - if lots of staff are isolating or shielding they won’t be able to open. Libraries near me are open so that’s not a general thing.

As a pp said many of these actually are quite logical when you think about it - lots of them may just be put down to not having enough staff to run a particular service or whatever (either due to isolating/shielding or because the business cannot afford to pay all its staff so has furloughed them). Having said that there are still lots of very bizarre things that really haven’t been thought through!

SedentaryCat · 10/12/2020 14:14

The post box around the corner from me is so full that letters are sticking out. Apparently it hasn't been emptied 'due to Covid'.

I took a parcel into the post office and was told that it wouldn't be collected by Royal Mail for two or three days 'because of Covid'.

Keep having my dentist appointment moved - the June one was cancelled and one booked for December. This was cancelled and then rearranged to February. Means I won't have seen a dentist for almost 15 months. I'm not so bothered about my teeth but my DCs come with me and I want to keep on top of any issues they might have.

Gas boiler hasn't been serviced by British Gas due to Covid. It was due in April. We pay for this as part of the breakdown cover and I bet we won't get a refund either....

I know, cannot make head nor tail of that one at all. We will do as requested, but will be quite baffled while ding so!

@ChessieFL I managed to go to the library today as our Council website stated the public can visit for 15 minute slots to browse and take out a book. When I arrived there were 2 members of staff on the front desk who claimed I couldn't go in and I was only permitted to drop books off. I showed them the Council website and they begrudgingly let me in. There were then several members of staff standing around chatting in the empty library. There doesn't seem to be a staffing issue.

It's a shame, I was visiting on behalf of an elderly relative to take out a book for her. She used to enjoy going to a Senior Citizens IT club based in the library each week and meeting up with her friends. I really don't think the closure is justified.

Bushola · 12/12/2020 18:56

@Eastie77 sadly that kind of poor enforcing of their own made up rules will be their own downfall. Give it a few more months and councils will axe libraries to save money on the grounds that very few people have used the library in the previous 12 months.

Same is happening with our local council’s staffed help point - funding from next year has gone, based on reduced usage, yet for most of the year the doors been locked with the staff telling people to go away and use the website.
