Ridiculous/funny things that have changed ‘due to covid’

We were told this weekend that dominos can’t do half and half pizzas at the moment. We asked why and they just said due to covid Hmm

Gardener can only do every three weeks not every two...due to covid.

Haven’t been able to see a dentist since January. Covid means teeth are no longer a health concern!

Anyone else?!

@Firevixen where do you normally by this toffee crumble. This sounds nice Smile

SecretWitch · 30/11/2020 15:20

I could not have seltzer water with a lemon as they are no longer putting chopped fruits in drinks because COVID.

HarryLimeFoxtrot · 30/11/2020 15:22

No WiFi on the train ‘due to Covid’ HmmConfused

It does seem silly at my local park where people are allowed to play on the sports field but not the outdoor tennis court and basket ball court: also children's play equipment accessible but outdoor gym equipment taped up. There's an o going 'battle' between the local community who keep cutting the tape to use the equipment and courts and the council who keep taping it all back up again .

LemonBreeland · 30/11/2020 15:23

@MangoM

In our lifts at work, the capacity has been reduced from 13 people down to 4. And there are now pictures of shoe prints to show you where you should stand.

It makes me laugh imagining four grown men in suits getting into the lift and then immediately turning to face the corner Grin. I tried to draw a picture to demonstrate!

This really made me chuckle. Four people in the naughty corner

Given the bits of chopped fruit normally just sit around on the top of the bar are you really surprised at this?

Yep. People playing table tennis at our park, tennis court closed. Very erm, logical Hmm

DC's primary school is serving school lunches in paper pots in their classrooms "because of Covid". This annoys DD2, who is a picky eater and doesn't like her food "all smashed up together".

Last week she was apparently moaning about baked bean juice being all over her food. Teacher said, "well, just eat it up because you're not getting anything else." DD hissed, "but I don't like baked beans, because of Covid" ConfusedHmm

Bubblemonkey · 30/11/2020 16:03

@SlopesOff

McDonalds, no breakfast wraps, due to Covid.
I am gutted by this 😂 they can do rolls though Hmm
Butterbeeeen · 30/11/2020 16:06

Dc attend a church school. The singing of songs in music lessons is banned due to covid. The singing of Christmas hymns for a concert which is being filmed and parents being charged a fee for the dvd of is of course not banned. Even DD noticed the ridiculousness of it.

Jourdain11 · 30/11/2020 16:10

Singing Happy Birthday is banned. But guess what DS's Year 1 class are told to do while they wash their hands...?

A local garden centre is advertising their Santa's grotto. It appears to be a short walk through a muddy field to see Santa outside his grotto. (mask wearing, social distancing etc which is all fine).

However, they state "Due to Covid and the rule of 6 they must charge everyone in the group £18 per person to see Santa and that includes adults through to babes in arms ".

I really don't remember anything in the rule of 6 saying you had to pay a rip off amount of money to be allowed to go out...

I haven't booked it.

WankPuffins · 30/11/2020 16:16

@Lindy2 £18 each?!! You seeing Santa or Dick Turpin?

electronVolt · 30/11/2020 16:17

In April, my local council announced that bin collections wouldn't be as regular as usual (every 3 weeks!!!) until March 2021 cos of Covid

I don’t know where you are, but I understand that quite a few councils are running with less binmen because quite a few have COVID. And are quite ill with it.

And even when they are at full capacity, they aren’t allowed to put a full crew into a bin wagon, because they are sat too close together. So each individual round takes

So although it sounds mad, and a lot like an excuse. It isn’t.

At dds school they can't sing happy birthday to class mates.

But there can be two to a sink in the toilets being told to sing it Confused

At DD's primary, they have been told not to bring school bags, just a drawstring bag containing a water bottle and reading book.... so basically a school bag, just a different type. I'm not sure if this helps reduce transmission, but you know.... #doingmybit

Yes. Also we are only allowed bags twice a week. But putting all their crap into a bag seems like a much better idea than having it all floating around... Aaah.
DuckingFogg · 30/11/2020 16:36

A lot of the reduced menu ones are apparently also about reduced footfall and therefore too much wastage. Which I get. And totally explains why the cafe at my gym has a menu filled with chicken.... But it's incredibly frustrating

As well as that it's about what you can get delivered and when too. These places have suppliers (which I think people forget) and we had a lot of trouble sourcing some things through them, and a lot weren't taking on new clients because they also had to operate differently, with social distancing rules in place etc, so going somewhere else sometimes isn't an option either, especially if you're tied into a contract.
Reducing a menu also reduces the amount of people that need to be on site at any one time, so social distancing can be achieved by the staff too, which of course has a knock on effect to service times.
My experience though is that customers are totally unwilling to accept that the new working practices imposed to keep employees safe will inevitably lead to differences, been shouted at a lot because people are stressed because of 'covid' too.

Orangeblossom7777 · 30/11/2020 16:41

For Games (secondary) the teens need to wear their kit to school, (covid) and also we have to buy extra school motto trousers to go over shorts.

But on PE days they can take the kit in a bag to change.

Littleposh · 30/11/2020 16:42

No onions on ikea hot dogs

the80sweregreat · 30/11/2020 17:02

I've given up ironing ' because of covid'
The dentist one is annoying me as I want to go along but they keep on cancelling.

Rhayader · 30/11/2020 17:23

We have to provide nativity costumes for school in named bags instead of using the school costumes. I don’t see why the kids couldn’t just have a school costume in a named bag.
