Do you think they'll force the vaccine on us?

Just that really and I don't mean like they'll force us down and demand we get it but do you think if we want to travel or be admitted to hospital or whatever they'll say we have to have the vaccine or do you think they'll be more like to encourage the older population to have it for those reasons?

I'm just a bit worried as I don't really want to have the vaccine not because I think they're going to put a microchip in us Grin but mostly because it was done very quickly and we don't know much about it, this is the first year I've gotten the flu jab (because pregnant) and ended up really poorly so just a bit wary of the covid jab that's all - maybe I'm worrying over nothing but it's interesting to know what other people think.

@worriedwellworrier

The vaccine program will be primary care led, the plans are amazing. GPs absolutely can organise a very good piss up in a brewery.
Considering our GP surgery still hasn't managed to sort out this winter's flu jabs, I'm not too confident about them being able to manage the covid jabs!

I have only been in the UK 3 months. I am so bloody grateful I have a chance of getting a vaccine because I am in the UK. In my home country of India, there are thousands dying. I hope a vaccine is made available to them through AstraZeneca, but it will be years before it reaches the truly needy.

I had to have a TB clearance test before I entered the UK. It still took me over 3 months to get my visa. I really struggle to understand the mindset of people who refuse to take this vaccine and still expect to be allowed to travel. You are so lucky to have it!

Unsure33 · 23/11/2020 19:29

@OverTheRainbow88

Yes they could or you may have to pay for one of the new fast tests . But the bottom line is you will still have a choice whether to attend those events or travel to certain countries.

And for holiday resorts who want to get back to business who can blame them?

FreshFreesias · 23/11/2020 19:30

I don’t want to have it but I suspect it will be made pretty much mandatory, given how authoritarian Boris and his gov now are.

Unsure33 · 23/11/2020 19:30

@Frequentflier

Well said. I hope that other countries will get the help they deserve with the vaccine .

Coyoacan · 23/11/2020 19:31

It'll be a while before there is even enough vaccine for all the people who want and need it.

I don't want the vaccine, but I reckon that I could pass that off as altruistic with so many people clammering for it.

Interesting - I didn’t realise UK had mandatory TB vaccinations for incoming travellers (as not relevant being a citizen). I wonder if they will do the same for incoming travellers with the covid vaccine (rather than us going elsewhere)
Stellaris22 · 23/11/2020 19:32

These covid anti vaxxers will find any reasoning to justify why they won't have it.

It's been proven that it hasn't been rushed, but the immediate need for it has meant funding and volunteers haven't been an obstacle.

As for unknown side effects, we already know covid can be fatal or cause long term damage to even young and healthy individuals. Are people willing to risk living with covid after effects?

Unsure33 · 23/11/2020 19:32

@FreshFreesias

FGS. Why do people have to make this political, it’s a worldwide pandemic . All governments are going to have to consider the best way to do this . It won’t matter about their politics it’s a humanitarian situation .

Destinysdaughter · 23/11/2020 19:33

Boris is saying just now that it won't be compulsory.

HMSSophie · 23/11/2020 19:35

Christ almighty. Take the fucking vaccine or live with the world in Thai state. Those are your choices. Stop living in a fantasy land where there is some magic solution that poses no risk to you. Fuck me, some people ...

Frequentflier · 23/11/2020 19:36

@crazycatlady83 No, I did not have a vaccine, but I had an Xray and sputum test to rule out TB, as did everyone in my family.

My husband's diabetic ( and of course at higher risk bcos of being S Asian), so I think the benefits of the vaccine far outweigh the risks.
I made the same call on the HPV vaccine. which some people are wary about.

rhowton · 23/11/2020 19:37

@Funkypolar they're very unlikely to have tested on pregnant woman so I doubt they will be able to have it, as well as breast feeding mums. The risk to under 45s are low anyway (I know woman older than 45 can be pregnant , but it's rare).

Funkypolar · 23/11/2020 19:37

HMSSophie - some people have differences of opinion. Why does people disagreeing with you cause you to become so angry? Take a deep breath, isn’t high blood pressure a risk for Covid?

I'm not amongst the ranks of corona- hysterics, but I do have a point to make. You don't want to have the vaccine because the flu one made you a bit ill? Have you ever had flu? Because flu makes you a lot worse than "really poorly". How will you feel, do you think, if you get Covid? Because you may be lucky, but you also may not be. I've had flu once, and it was a nightmare. Two weeks really ill, as in incapable of staying conscious for more than an hour, pain, the works. Never quite recovered for two months so ended up with pneumonia - post viral syndrome wasn't invented by coronavirus! I also had Covid. A good month ill - for three weeks i was even worse than the flu I'd had. That could be what you can look forward to. Why wouldn't you have the vaccine?
rhowton · 23/11/2020 19:39

@CoronaIsWatching me too!! I will pay any amount of money for a vaccine if it means I can get back to normal life

Funkypolar · 23/11/2020 19:39

So if I’m pregnant and then breastfeeding and not able to have a vaccine, I guess I won’t be able to go back to work or travel or go to a concert?

MarshaBradyo · 23/11/2020 19:39

It won’t be mandatory, from briefing just now

Personally I think people are crazy not to but as another scientist said today when asked about those who can’t or won’t - to those who can’t we’ll have something else, to those who won’t - good luck to them.

(Sir John Bell I think)

Gigheimer · 23/11/2020 19:39

I wonder how they will handle those who are ethically opposed if the vaccines and one of those the Catholic Church is saying should not be used? Suspect the Islamic faith would follow suit if they knew they are developed using cell lines from aborted feral tissue.

Now I actually don’t care, but the theory is interesting if they make it mandatory.

I am completely against mandatory vaccination.

Crazycatlady83 · 23/11/2020 19:41

Oh ok!
I feel the benefits outweigh the risks for myself and my husband as well. I’m just pregnant so doubt I will be offered it! Hopefully be allowed to have it soon afterwards!
I hope you and your husband can get it as soon as it’s available for you, like everyone who wishes to have the vaccine.

Staffy1 · 23/11/2020 19:41

No big deal if you can afford it. Its clear young people will be way down the NHS vaccine priority list so low income, young and healthy people will be completely screwed over once again. No travelling (and probably cinemas or restaurants etc) for them unless they can afford to go private

The government have said that no one will be able to queue jump. It will not be allowed to be sold privately until everyone in the country has been offered it, so not just the low income screwed.

CorianderLord · 23/11/2020 19:41

I'm surprised at so many people who are against the vaccine but who were very against anti-Vaxx before Covid

rhowton · 23/11/2020 19:42

@Funkypolar there will always be exemptions so when you're breastfeeding or pregnant, you will probably be exempt.

Username198 · 23/11/2020 19:43

I’m young and healthy so I think the risk of the vaccine for me is greater than the risk of the virus. I’d probably feel differently if it was something like Ebola but any vaccine carries a risk and things have gone wrong in the past.

Crazycatlady83 · 23/11/2020 19:44

@Funkypolar

I don’t think that quite correct. I am also pregnant (and intend on breastfeeding if possible) You would just be “exempt” (like people who can’t - rather than “won’t” - have the vaccine) You will have to rely on herd immunity. It’s a scary thought when you hear all the anti-vax speak! However we don’t know what the position on pregnancy/breastfeeding yet is as that info hasn’t been released. It’s more “wait and see”
