I just don't have the energy for anything. Today has been cold, grey and miserable and there's nowhere to fucking go because everywhere is closed. Yes there's the local park but I've been there about 500 times since March and I'm bored sick of it.

How much longer can they keep us in this fucking awful state? I've had enough, I'm drained, I'm depressed as hell.

We've sacrificed so damn much for a virus that kills about 1% of people who catch it. I know that sounds callous but I'm facing the loss of my job (I'm self employed in events - ha!) and potentially my home because of this. The toll it's taken on my mental health is disastrous, but I feel like me and my family (and other families like us) are just collateral in all of this.

I know people will probably say things like we're lucky to be alive, but I don't feel lucky.

I can't live like this any longer.

Yes, they are exempt but my mum will still wear her mask to avoid the looks from the self appointed covid twats, who deem it necessary to mutter under their breathe about non mask wearers. So many people who are exempt still wear masks just to avoid this kind of unnecessary behaviour.

It really should be that way. My understanding was that you have to accept that someone is exempt. Which of course is exactly why the scamdemic brigade encourage non mask wearing because they see themselves as untouchable.
Anyone coming up to a person and giving them a hard time though is an unpleasant individual.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 22/11/2020 10:23

'they are exempt but my mum will still wear her mask to avoid the looks from the self appointed covid twats, who deem it necessary to mutter under their breathe about non mask wearers.'

I wouldn't mutter but if she actually wears one then it clearly doesn't cause her any problems does it. If it does why doesn't she wear a visor? Just like a big pair of specs I cannot think of one medical condition that could by any stretch of the imagination be affected by that.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 22/11/2020 10:24

Shouldn't. Damn autocorrect.

pontypridd · 22/11/2020 10:24

From my research and reading the vaccine is not going to make a dent in this situation for a long time.

So to those of you talking as if this will be over soon because of the vaccine - what is your version of soon? How soon do you think we’ll be out of this?

tortoiseshell1985 · 22/11/2020 10:25

Here we are again weather forecast said dry today
Its grey, wet, raining, again
No point getting up

MoiraNotRuby · 22/11/2020 10:27

Haven't rtft but just to say. Events WILL come back. Everyone misses them. We the events professionals will be the bloody saviours of everyone's mental health recovery once the vaccine rolls out. Its just so tough getting to that point. But your job will be so much more needed and appreciated Flowers

Why is that @pontypridd? No offence but I hope you are wrong.

I think so Moira. People are going to openly value things that before they enjoyed but kind of took for granted. There will be a renaissance!

Oh get up, put a coat on and go for a brisk walk. I guarantee you'll feel better. No it won't solve the ops business going bust problems but fgs people have to try a bit of self help to get through the day.

Because only tiny amounts of vaccine (in comparison to the size of our population) will be available. They’ll be doing it in dribs and drabs, slowly over a period of months/years.

It will take a long time to have any effect.

I haven't rtft but OP I have sympathy and I hope things resolve soon. I understand totally where you are coming from.

It's now starting to feel like a total farce, just quite ridiculous really. I hate it, with a passion.

pontypridd · 22/11/2020 10:37

And poorer countries will not be able to access and afford the vaccine. Already what is available has been bought up by the rich countries.

COVID will still be out there and travelling with people in and out of the UK and round the world.

We know that viruses mutate. Covid already has. There’s the Spanish version. The variation from Minks etc The vaccine won’t cover all of these.

Personally I have very little hope that the vaccine will make much of difference at all.

Please could you post links to the research you have been doing, because everything I have read suggests that it's likely people will be vaccinated very quickly.

I don't think that is correct. The roll out will be massive and relatively swift. I can't find a link but a scientist on the news predicted by Spring we should be seeing a return to normal, look how July and aug were!! people have such short memories. Be hopeful and positive. There's so many glass half empty folk on this thread.

The effect of the mink mutation has not yet been confirmed, but even the guy who developed the Pfizer vaccine says he is not particularly concerned. I have not heard anything about a Spanish version that vaccines won't cover. Where have you heard this please?
pontypridd · 22/11/2020 10:50

The Spanish strain is the most prevalent here in the UK at the moment. It’s thought to have been brought back by holiday makers in the summer.

I can’t post links at the moment as am on my phone. Every bit of information is taken from a variety of places.

There is no single report to post. I’ve pieced what I’ve read and heard together to come to this conclusion.

'Thanks for your understanding'

I do understand, no one is having a great time but saying there's no point getting up as it's grey and miserable (in November) would seem a bit drastic.

Of course people have actual mh problems in which case seek help but as unpopular as it clearly is on this thread a positive attitude and giving yourself small achievable goals to fill in your daytime really does help. Moan yes, get it off your chest but then get up and do something.

The disability discrimination that masks have brought about is horrendous. Hate crime guidance about it has had to be issued.

I also hate the whole pressure on those with disabilities to have to wear a lanyard to identify themselves as so. Why should they.

I know people who daren't go out for basics because they can't wear a mask.

The sooner they are gone for the better.

Stop it.

There is no 'Spanish version'. The ''variation from minks' seems to be extinct. Viruses do mutate, but happily Covid happily appears to be less prone to this than than other viruses.

At least make the effort to inform yourself before trying to scare others.

caringcarer · 22/11/2020 11:19

I hear you OP. The worry about losing your job and potentially you home must be all consuming. It has been so hard this year. Probably one of the worst of my life. I feel so sorry for people in your situation. It must be awful to be on maternity leave but can't go anywhere or do anything, so your special time has been stolen from you. I was hoping the vaccine would mean everything could go back to normal soon but one poster says we will still be in lockdown, why, can anyone explain. I have read by end of February almost everyone who wants a vaccine can have one. Surely they can't make us stay in because some people don't want to have the vaccine. I am going to go to my garden centre to see the Xmas decorations. I drove to B&Q last week to look at Xmas decorations. I bought a paint brush I didn't need just so I didn't look do sad. I don't think I will see my dgc this Xmas so I am packing a huge box of stuff to send them and suppose I will have to make do with a Teams call to watch them open presents. My dh is CV so can't risk meeting them in person which hurts me like hell as I have only seen them in January and August this whole year. Do you have a car you can go to a garden centre or B&Q to look at Xmas decorations? Beginning of December I am getting on car and going to Xmas tree 🌲 farm and choosing our tree. I have bought craft stuff for D's to spend time making decorations to go on it. I have put some paper chain and card making activities in Xmas box for my dgc. I thought I might make some cards this year as stuck at home a lot. I have found a couple of things to watch on Netflix. The Queen's Gambit and Designated Survivor. Ring your GP tomorrow and tell them you can't stand it and can't cope and need help. Get some medication to see you through rest of lockdown. I have never had depression or anxiety before but I think I need help now. My GP gave me some medication just to get me through lock down. I felt better a bit better after taking for 10 days. I really think you need some too. Once I had meds I have been out to B&Q to look at decorations and I found I could cope better.
