Worried that the military and NHS are on standby to deliver vaccines

Just heard this on the BBC news at 6.Does this mean the military will be injecting people? Will it be mandatory for certain groups? This is rather worrying.

@Cyw2018

No it means the military are awesome at logistics and their soldiers are capable of adapting to and fulfilling new roles readily.
Second it as well! The Pfizer vaccine needs to be transported at -80C. I don’t wish the local Hermes driver screw that one up! 😂😂

You may need to seek help with your anxiety, as you present it rather than a concern or consideration...🤷🏻‍♀️

Shaniac · 10/11/2020 18:17

My comment is not as odd as it seems. Some legislation was passed recently allowing non medical professionals to administer vaccines of needed.

As i mentioned you dont need to be a medical professional at all. I am trained in phlebotomy and have taken blood from people and even inserted canulas. I am not a medical professional in any capacity. Jabs are even easier to administer.

Summerstorms · 10/11/2020 18:17

injections are really easy to administer though? People don't need to be fully trained HCP to do it they just need to be trained for injections

Bluntness100 · 10/11/2020 18:17

What’s worrying you? There is no indication it’s mandatory, and I don’t care who does it, just the sooner the better and as long as they are trained,

If you don’t wish to get done and believe your immune then don’t get it done.

And what issue did you have with that? Vets administer injections. Heck my colleague injects his own insulin - as do plenty of parents!
titchy · 10/11/2020 18:17

@BurningRose

Ps I had a positive covid test a few months ago so I won't need a vaccine. I now have natural immunity.

I worry about creeping authoritarianism though.

Except you can get it twice Wink
BurningRose · 10/11/2020 18:18

And your immunity will wane in a few months, it doesn't last.

No more than a vaccine immunity. People will need a covid 19 vaccine boosters too every year. Its honestly not a silver bullet.

If its creeping authoritarianism you're worried about, then the vaccine is out best hope for restrictions being lifted surely! Were already living in a world where is has been necessary for the government to dictate who we can and can't see and where. Take the pandemic away and you remove this need!

Are you Mr Trump? 😂😂😂
mpsw · 10/11/2020 18:18

There are some significant storage issues with the temperature the Pfizer vaccination has to be kept at, throughout the entire delivery chain from the point it leaves the factory, through every move, right to the clinics where it will be administered.

Not t sure who else I'd trust with a loggie challenge of that scale and national importance other than the military.

Were you hoping for Capita instead, OP?

Saladseeds · 10/11/2020 18:18

Relevant people needing it will get training/refresher usually half a day, and administration is actually pretty straightforward. There will be a tidal wave of anti vaxx nonsense but the rest of is can ignore it as usual and feel positive about this situation ending. I wonder if there may be situations where you will need to prove you were vaccinated in order to do particular activities? Or perhaps enough people will take it up making herd immunity sufficient.

Pedallleur · 10/11/2020 18:19

And off we go. A vaccine is touted but hasn't been approved so may not get to the market and already the conspiracies start.

How long do you think your immunity is going to last then?
AlrightTreacle · 10/11/2020 18:19

As a nurse I wouldn't be bothered if a person from a none healthcare background injected me, as long as it was after a bit of training and a few supervised goes.

BurningRose · 10/11/2020 18:19

Not sure whilst you're smiling about that. You sound nasty. There is also little evidence.

I find it somewhat reassuring that the military are involved.
They are ace at logistics, clear chain of command, know how to get a job done.
And to be honest I can't see that it is rocket science to give a vaccine, so if there were trained army-medics doing it that would be fine by me.

Bouncycastle12 · 10/11/2020 18:19

I gave myself injections for ten days post c section after about 30 seconds advice from a midwife. It’s not rocket science. Army there because they’re a large number of competent people who can be called on at speed and are used to big logistical operations. Very odd thing to worry about.

user1471453601 · 10/11/2020 18:19

Some of the military have set up testing stations in Liverpool. There is no suggestion from the people there that testing for them is now mandatory. So I don't see any reason to believe that their involvement in vaccination in any was suggests vaccination will be mandatory either.

I'm torn as to whether I want to tell you to calm down, or to ask that you stop trying to frighten people. My response is entirely dependant on your reasons for posting

Can you imagine 😱

What are you worried about? Don't really care who gives me mine! It won't be done by a just joined up 16-year old junior solider. There will be (more than) adequate training.

I live in an area whose hospital is partly staffed by military personnel and I have no complaints whatsoever.

combatbarbie · 10/11/2020 18:19

I'm not sure what the issue is, we have plenty medics to administer, plenty logistics to get them where they néed to be and plenty admin to ensure its recorded on records.

Sindragosan · 10/11/2020 18:20

The government have apparently secured enough to vaccinate 20m people, there are an estimated 66m in the UK, so not enough for everyone. I doubt anyone will be pinned down and injected. Its much more likely that not everyone who wants it will be able to get it.

Gancanny · 10/11/2020 18:20

It honestly is as a workable vaccine is going to be the biggest factor in life returning to normal.

An annual vaccine is no biggie, the flu is annual and I believe there are plans for the covid vaccine to eventually form part of the annual winter flu vaccine programme so you'll go get either a 2-in-1 vaccine for both or one of each into each arm.

Bumble84 · 10/11/2020 18:20

Op a previous positive test doesn’t mean you’re immune if that’s what you mean. You can get it twice.

It might become obligatory to have the vaccine to travel to certain countries such as the yellow fever vaccine. There is obviously then still a choice of travel.

I broke my ankle and my husband had to inject my stomach daily to avoid clots. He wasn’t even shown how to do it.
