"Boris Johnson is holding a press conference with Sir Simon Stevens, the chief executive of NHS England, at 5pm, No 10 has announced."

What do we think he’s going to say? I’m a bit worried about what he might say.

But I can pretty much guarantee he won’t be on time at 5pm, I’m guessing more like 6!

Care home visits they have confirmed are being reviewed , however that’s only recommendations , unfortunately as now it is up to the individual managers . Not every home has been banning visits .

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 05/11/2020 14:43

I suspect that now we're in lockdown he's going to announce that it's ongoing (in terms of socialising beyond your own bubble) beyond 2nd December. They may allow families to reunite over Christmas but that will be it for a while yet. The 2nd December date is most likely for shops to reopen for Christmas. Goodness knows what will happen for pubs and restaurants though.

Well perhaps that because they are extending furlough until March

Sort of balances it out does it not 🙄
No it doesn't

You can however issue redundancy notices when people are on the CJRS which you couldn't do on the planned job support scheme.

LizzieMacQueen · 05/11/2020 14:44

@Unsure33 I'm not sure it does balance out. Lots will have taken precautions to bring employees back after Furlough 1.0 with an expectation of that £1,000 per employee. Bit rubbish to have that removed now.

Splodgetastic · 05/11/2020 14:44

I reckon Christmas cancelled and lockdown until March, given the furlough announcement.

Unsure33 · 05/11/2020 14:44

@picklemewalnuts

Same as after the wars I guess . We all have to pay it back somehow.

Invest in jobs will be the main thing .

That might mean more spending in infrastructure etc

Unsure33 · 05/11/2020 14:45

@Splodgetastic

They could still do local lockdowns and local furlough ?

Thiscantreallybehappening · 05/11/2020 14:46

*LizzieMacQueen

Did they remove the £1,000 job retention bonus? Doubt they'll mention that.*

They have removed it temporarily but said it would be reintroduced at a more appropriate time.

@TW2013

Sounds like time for another Boris Bingo. Should keep the children occupied while I get the meal ready. Fortunately we don't usually eat until quite late.

So Alas, NHS, Furlough, wide open hand gesture, unfortunately, together ... what else do I need to put on their bingo cards?

?

pussycatinboots · 05/11/2020 14:47

Ooh, I know...maybe the government have bought shares in Amazon?

TheoriginalLEM · 05/11/2020 14:48

Could do press conference bingo

Hands face space

Work from home

Save NHS

Alas

We can do this

British spirit

They have removed it temporarily but said it would be reintroduced at a more appropriate time. The implication being it would be reintroduced at the end of the furlough scheme in March.

NorbertMeubles · 05/11/2020 14:49

If he says his favourite word 'alas' one more time I am going to punch the tv

Thatwentbadly · 05/11/2020 14:50

Nothing has been leaked in the press so it can’t be important.

CovidClara · 05/11/2020 14:51

The £1000 was planned to cover the pension (NI if you don't get an EU grant) and the top up from CJRS minimums. We would get it for each employee (there are only 4) and that would have covered the expenses of the 1 who is still fully furloughed and the 3 who are flexibly furloughed from the drop in CJRS from 80% from September onwards.

Sadly I may have to issue the 11 week redundancy notice this week. After 11 years on running a profitable company (profitable from day 1) I may just issue notice to everyone and close whilst I have enough to pay the redundancy in the bank.

Jam tomorrow is no use.
MayFayre · 05/11/2020 14:53

I’d like to think it might be some cheerier news about a vaccine, but am working on the assumption it will be more bad news or just waffle!

If it was primarily about furlough wouldn’t it be with Rishi Sunak rather than the NHS chap?

Rhythmisadancer · 05/11/2020 14:54

laying the ground for a no deal Brexit, now that Rishi's found the dosh for furlough till March to cover its arse

userxx · 05/11/2020 14:55

@CovidClara That's really shit.

QueenZoopla · 05/11/2020 14:55

TheoriginalLEM 😂 I've taken a screen shot of that list, to play bingo later

niceupthedance · 05/11/2020 14:56

Shielding resumes

Selmaselma · 05/11/2020 14:59

Something about turning the tide?

CovidClara · 05/11/2020 14:59
@CovidClara That's really shit.
Yes. I haven't had any personal income since March.

I am the fee earner and have carried on working- but been massively impacted as our sector is still partially closed.

I tried to do the right thing by my staff but honestly I would have been much better off personally making them all redundant in April.

Not all employers are greedy and grasping

Overthegardenfence · 05/11/2020 15:02

Or maybe he’ll be off to his 3rd 115 room country mansion Chevening House in Kent, I live up the road I’ll let you know if I see him!

Splodgetastic · 05/11/2020 15:03

I thought Chevening was for the Foreign Secretary?
