"Boris Johnson is holding a press conference with Sir Simon Stevens, the chief executive of NHS England, at 5pm, No 10 has announced."

What do we think he’s going to say? I’m a bit worried about what he might say.

But I can pretty much guarantee he won’t be on time at 5pm, I’m guessing more like 6!

I wonder if he will do what Nicola Sturgeon did and have a fireman on to tell us all about the danger of bonfires and fireworks!!

you know how she likes to treat us like adults !!! Hmm

TicTacTwo · 05/11/2020 14:26

@Summerstorms

Doesn't the extension of furlough suggest more lockdowns? (i am a bit confused about this?
A lot of online memes speculating about that.
cologne4711 · 05/11/2020 14:26

"Enjoy lockdown folks, I'm off to my country second home for lockdown. See you in a month. What's that? No travel to second homes allowed? But I am the PRIME MINISTER! And I had covid anyway, don't you remember? Byeee!"

StealthPolarBear · 05/11/2020 14:27

@CooperLooper

He will probably say 'ALAS!' at least a dozen times
Love it :)

The Prince William defence

Don't tell the people that you had Covid and went to Norfolk against the rules (following your father who went to Scotland with symptoms) Just casually mention it 7 months later and you look like a hero not a reckless rule breaker.

Ihaveyourback · 05/11/2020 14:28

I don't know how he can face it, you couldn't pay me any amount of money to be leading the country right now. No wonder he got up and left when Theresa started wittering on, she had it bloody easy!!

Splodgetastic · 05/11/2020 14:29

Really? What’s the point of him doing anything?

movingonup20 · 05/11/2020 14:30

@Bubblemonkey

Just put the wine in the fridge to chill, excellent idea! (will prep dinner in advance as predicting the whole bottle may be needed!)

@helloxhristmas

Powerpoint slides that don't even fit the screen.
I don't like to defend the government, but that was an issue with the BBC - it fitted fine on Sky News.
LizzieMacQueen · 05/11/2020 14:33

Did they remove the £1,000 job retention bonus? Doubt they'll mention that.

Did they, that's a bit crap. I have kept an employee on thinking that would cover their pension.
herecomesthsun · 05/11/2020 14:36

There was a spike in deaths yesterday. They may have had some more concerning stats that are driving some of this.

MagicSummer · 05/11/2020 14:37

What exactly is wrong with the word 'alas'? I use it quite a lot.

userxx · 05/11/2020 14:37

Very good point. I have a few clients banking on that.

TicTacTwo · 05/11/2020 14:38

Yes they removed the Job Retention Bonus

Cattermole · 05/11/2020 14:39

I suspect if it was anything important some bugger would have leaked it by now.....

Well there have been announcements about extending furlough . ( hope none of you slagging off the government are accepting that ? No I am sure you are giving it back )

So perhaps it might include that .

Also in parliament he still said after the 4 weeks he hoped ( obviously he is not control of the virus) that he could return to local lock downs .

OR we could wait and see.

Perhaps the scientists have changed their minds again ?

Care home visit u turn would be appreciated.

Unsure33 · 05/11/2020 14:42

@LizzieMacQueen

Well perhaps that because they are extending furlough until March

Sort of balances it out does it not 🙄

TW2013 · 05/11/2020 14:42

Sounds like time for another Boris Bingo. Should keep the children occupied while I get the meal ready. Fortunately we don't usually eat until quite late.

So Alas, NHS, Furlough, wide open hand gesture, unfortunately, together ... what else do I need to put on their bingo cards?

CovidClara · 05/11/2020 14:42

@TicTacTwo

Yes they removed the Job Retention Bonus
That really is bad

I have a very part time furloughed member of staff. The £1000 made it almost cash neutral to keep them on the books. I have paid them at 100% (because I am a good employer and it isn't their fault they can't work at the moment).

So now I am £1000 down.

picklemewalnuts · 05/11/2020 14:43

I mean, I'm pleased about more government support, but how on earth will we ever get out from under the debt?
