"Boris Johnson is holding a press conference with Sir Simon Stevens, the chief executive of NHS England, at 5pm, No 10 has announced."

What do we think he’s going to say? I’m a bit worried about what he might say.

But I can pretty much guarantee he won’t be on time at 5pm, I’m guessing more like 6!

@windybeechridge thanks. I just know my family will now be telling me the Tories are great and are getting Brexit done are funding the NHS which I've always used as a reason why I will never vote for them.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 05/11/2020 18:09

Get you now. I think we probably agree there too about problems with specific GPs being blamed on the NHS as a whole.

WokesFromHome · 05/11/2020 18:20

Alas, I don't know anyone who says this.

I think Shakespeare was the last person to use it.

SheepandCow · 05/11/2020 18:20

Yes definitely agree on that.
The NHS does need more funding (and better management) but, separately, some GPs are not as good as others.

I changed surgery a few years ago. The last one was awful. Really difficult to get an appointment, dragon receptionists, rubbish GP. My current surgery is fantastic - and has continued to provide good level of care during the pandemic. Such a difference.

StealthPolarBear · 05/11/2020 18:23

Alackaday that sounds dreadful

the80sweregreat · 05/11/2020 18:28

Well, Boris is probably keen on the Bard I bet. Most of this handling of the pandemic has been a tragedy , so it all fits. Alas.

pinpinbin · 05/11/2020 18:43

Alas and alack a tragi-comedy in fact

NullcovoidNovember · 05/11/2020 19:04

Windy, our hospital was called the worst in UK at one point under the labour gov.

It was horrific and waiting times certainly were not adhered too. Everyone said never go there in emergency, ask ambulance to take you miles away to the other one!

I don't know which gov out sourced uniform cleaning or left it to staff instead of proper in-house cleaning.
Same with cleaning teams... From outside not in house with less control.

Now, that hospital is much much Better thankfully.

I think lockdown will be eased for a few weeks around Christmas then after New Year a new lockdown until March. Hence the furlough extension.

SufferingFromLongLockdown · 05/11/2020 19:26

The guidance is quite clear and easy to understand....if you have to ask 'Can I do this/that etc?' just don't do it. Stop trying to work round the rules!!!

I've read some desperately sad posts on here from people who don't realise it's ok to pay a care visit to an elderly parent. There's a long, none exhaustive list of vulnerable and this includes anyone over 70.

Most of the restrictions will be there till March, with a Christmas truce regarding household mixing.

@Splodgetastic

Boris is referring to Simon as Steven. Brain damage from Covid.
He is a public schoolboy- all surnames or a penis related nickname
