What will lockdown mean for your job?

In the last lockdown I lost everything. I was made redundant at work and lost my house because my landlord was selling due to financial difficulties brought on by lockdown.

I've managed to build myself back up just about. I have a new job that I've been with a month and a house that I'm starting to make feel like home. Now lockdown looms again. I don't know what's in store for my role til I go in tomorrow but hopefully it'll be safe.

I work in a school so I won’t loose my job however I’m worried about how this will work while schools remain open. Although I have a job I’ve had to use the food bank once during lockdown due to universal credit saying my take home pay was double what it was.

No change for me. I've been WFH since the last lockdown...and from July we had the option to go in once a week if we wanted.

I liked doing that to physically see my team again. Now we'll be told to stay at home.

Having to do certain things on MS teams has certainly been challenging at times, but I've learnt a few techy tricks.

No more team meetings in the office I guess, so more Teams meetings.

It's a shame, because we had hit a nice rhythm for meeting for days to have creative conversations before leaving each other wfh to knuckle down producing what we'd discussed. It was a really nice balance.

I work in A&E as a mental health practitioner. I'm thankfully not at risk of losing my job however my little teams referrals have gone from 200 per month ( pre the first lockdown) to over 400.
We are at risk of burn out.
So many more suicide attempts being brought into A&E ( many serious and needing ICU beds ) I don't know how long we can keep going with these numbers.

Work in the NHS.
So no change. But getting busier and more difficult.

I have no idea what it means for my job- hopefully we’ll be told tomorrow. Should be ‘safe’ from redundancy for a bit longer (not much faith beyond Christmas though). Hoping they let us work from home now.

No change. I work T a University teaching Dentistry which can only be done face to face (mask to mask!) and in a general dental practice. We don’t think we have to shut but there may be some cancellations. DH has been WFH since March.
So glad schools are staying open.

I work for an airline in an office based role. I've been WFH since March so that won't change. We have had a big round of redundancies already, and I guess I just hope we can make it through this next bit.

I start a new job tomorrow! It’s in health care for the council so I assume it’ll be fine, and I’ll be very busy. It’s not so good for my DH’s business though, it wasn’t great before the March lockdown, now we are very worried it’ll no longer be viable. Just such a worrying time, I hope your role is ok OP.

College tutor - won’t make any difference.

I freelance. Most of my jobs will be ok but one job is a visiting facilitator in schools. Whilst schools remain open, I'm not sure they will still be open to visitors. Who knows.

@Quail15 So sad. Do you think this lockdown will increase the figures?

Also a college tutor so no difference to me. DH’s job has always been safe too, he’s an engineer so their company stayed open throughout and has actually profited this year.

Boom times for me.
I run a small business working from home, sales have quadrupled since Covid.

pharmacy - no difference

I teach fitness classes at gyms so no work again - last time over 4 months off, back 3 months now off again. Self employed less than 3 years so little help and now only 40% anyway. No doubt gyms will be last to open again despite excellent cleaning and distancing government do not view them as important. Real issue I feel taking away people's livelihoods and expecting them to just manage on buttons.

I am on maternity leave from my teaching job so I am ok, but we arent sure about my husband. His job was made permanent about 4 weeks ago after a 3 year temporary contract, but it does require him to be booked in by people to go and work in their houses (not construction). We are pretty sure people wont be making bookings now, so he may have no work. Maybe he will be furloughed again as he works for a large company? We are worried the permanency will be revoked as he has just had a letter of confirmation, but hasn't signed a new contract.

I am due my baby tomorrow. It's not the best time to be in this situation.

I WFH so no change. DH is in construction so fingers crossed no change for him either.

However my heart really goes out for all those who will be really affected again. And of course our hospital workers. Thinking on you all

I work in hospitality, we managed to keep our head above water last time but who knows what will happen this time.

Ask me again in a year...

Dentistry. We are staying open and working as usual

So no change to my job unless the patients cancel in large numbers. ( there’s no reason to tho)

Rural community care here so will be just as busy if not busier. Last time we had a lot of patients discharged from hospital earlier than would have been ideal so extra work load working alongside community nurses.

I've always worked from home, running my own business. The last lockdown made no real impact on my life nor will this one. But I am worried for some friends.

I'll be fine wfh, our offices all reopened in July or august. I currently do 2 days in the office, rest at home. My manager thinks our office will stay open, productivity is better in the office, guess will find out tomorrow if we can stay open. We've already reduced staff numbers so I'm hopeful they won't lose more people, the new scheme to replace furlough isn't as good so our staff are all back and we are taking the hit on costs
