What will lockdown mean for your job?

In the last lockdown I lost everything. I was made redundant at work and lost my house because my landlord was selling due to financial difficulties brought on by lockdown.

I've managed to build myself back up just about. I have a new job that I've been with a month and a house that I'm starting to make feel like home. Now lockdown looms again. I don't know what's in store for my role til I go in tomorrow but hopefully it'll be safe.

@Quail15

I work in A&E as a mental health practitioner. I'm thankfully not at risk of losing my job however my little teams referrals have gone from 200 per month ( pre the first lockdown) to over 400. We are at risk of burn out. So many more suicide attempts being brought into A&E ( many serious and needing ICU beds ) I don't know how long we can keep going with these numbers.
This upsets me

Worked all the way through ... office job and think we will be ok as doing well

Waxonwaxoff0 · 01/11/2020 21:37

I'm in manufacturing. We are allowed to carry on operating but it depends if people will still be buying (furniture) as they didn't during the last lockdown and I was furloughed.

Storyofcats · 01/11/2020 21:38

I work in mental health, been working from home for months so that wont change. I am very grateful to have a stable job at the moment although it's definitely not easy currently.

Non passenger facing Airport worker so expecting to be put on furlough again. I had 5 weeks off at the start of the 1st lockdown on furlough and was brought back in but can't see that happening this time.

Next year with a no deal Brexit is when unemployment will really shoot up.

Retail in Central London. Store takings down at least 80% but online sales mostly making up the shortfall so they aren’t considering closing branches until at least next summer. Don’t know if that will change now. I only came back from furlough a fortnight ago and will be on it again.

Not sure. I am self employed working 1-1 normally in my home. It comes under education but not able to find specific guidelines about whether i am allowed to continue or not.

Thank goodness DH business seems unaffected and if anything is busier. However, he did have a cut of £500 month off his wages match- September. We rely on his wage so hoping it stays that way with no further reduction in wages

toodlepipsqueaks · 01/11/2020 22:40

Best of luck to you, OP Flowers Sounds like you did brilliantly to turn things around and I hope everything stays on track.

I'm a bit worried about this lockdown. We were only just starting to come back and return to more normal work levels from a lot of our clients being shut for the first one. I feel most for our clients though. Bleh ☹️

Supermarket. So just busier. DH in agriculture sales. So just working from home - farmers still working and buying stuff. DD college and supermarket. So nothing changed for us. I know we're really lucky

Cherrysherbet · 01/11/2020 22:52

I work in a supermarket, so will be working through this lockdown, just as before. My boss is great, so more hours not less.

My husband is self employed, and can’t work at all this winter. He does bouncy castle hire, so because of rule of six, and now lock down he can’t do his hall parties. No income from him until possibly next spring when he can do outdoor hires again. As far as we know, he will only be getting 40% of his wage. Apparently self employed people don’t need as much to live on .........who knew??!

pinkkoala · 01/11/2020 23:36

No change as health care assistant in a private care home with dementia, elderly frail and end of life. Maybe bit busier than normal with winter coming.
Dp no change as hgv driver for large haulage company that do supermarket distribution centres and other big brands. He is very busy now up until xmas working 6 nights on and 2 off.
