So shutting down everything but keeping schools open.AIBU to think that a lockdown should involve schools closing as well.Have been about six cases in my dds secondary zero social distancing and is just defeating the object of a lockdown as it has now been proven that schools, colleges etc can easily spread the virus.
@onedayinthefuture no teacher wants schools closed. None that I have ever heard speak. We want schools open safety. I don't understand why people can't hear this.
Rota system. Exam year in every day. 10 & 12 3 days a week and 7,8,9 in 2/3 days a week. We can then teach f2f, set work for them to do at home with no need of remote learning, and socially distance at the same time. It's what many other countries are doing. It's not hard. Would work. And would hopefully keep schools open.
This, dear God, this!!

Bollss · 01/11/2020 09:48

@LolalovesLondon

Trust Haha. What makes you think I am not "protecting myself"

You wearing ppe won't help you though will it? I thought other people wearing ppe helped you?

How are you protecting yourself trust?

Washing my hands. Social distancing while I'm out. Same way everyone else is.

I suppose I could keep myself safer if I stopped my childs education but I don't think that's a sensible decision.

Ilovecheese53 · 01/11/2020 09:48

@Ilovegreentomatoes

But the current set up in schools is not working really think we should be looking into blended learning at the very least.
How do you know its schools that is the main cause? And not the fact that all the shops opened and the borders have remained opened the entire time. Blended learning is no good kids need to be at school so parents can go to work!
monkeytennis97 · 01/11/2020 09:48

Well @TrustTheGeneGenie can you not see that from this guidance some Headteachers will state no masks in lessons then?

mumsneedwine · 01/11/2020 09:49

@monkeytennis97 I keep trying !! It's so bloody simple it makes my eyeballs melt that we are not doing it.

Dartsplayer · 01/11/2020 09:49

@GuyFawkesDay

Zero cases you know of.

Schools aren't actually telling kids, parents or staff outside the immediate contacts about positive cases any more. Happy days!!

Ours are. It's in the policy they emailed round and we were told when the case in primary happened
Sonnenscheins · 01/11/2020 09:49

All the people moaning about who will look after their kids if schools shut, well obviously schools will be open for key worker children just like last time.

If you're not a key worker you're either furloughed or working from home.

Unfortunately that is not true. I work in an industry where I need to be in the office, as does my dh.

There will be many working parents who are not key workers and won't be furloughed.

Yes, some. I have never denied that they do? What's your point?
NiceTwin · 01/11/2020 09:49

You may think that schools are allowing mixing of students, any school worth their salt aren't.
I am in a large school 1300 pupils, we have had less than 10 cases in 8 weeks. I think that is pretty good going.
It is a darn sight easier to track and trace contacts in school than when they are out galavanting!

LolalovesLondon · 01/11/2020 09:50

Trust
Do you wear PPE (a mask) when out in public? Do you expect other people to do so too?

That is all anyone is asking.

PPE in schools. For everyone.

MigGril · 01/11/2020 09:50

@mumsneedwine that would be lovely, if only the government would give the schools leave to actually do this sort of thing.

duffeldaisy · 01/11/2020 09:51

If the lockdown is meant to reduce case numbers, it seems like the government have a choice. They could do a really full-on lockdown, closing schools and everything for 3 or 4 weeks, or they can keep open the schools and have a much slower decline in figures, then meaning areas going to level 3 lockdown for months.

I’d much prefer the first option- with proper, generous support for businesses and people (including everyone), extra money for food and internet for home schooling (from Oak Academy which they’ve already paid for, so teachers can just teach vulnerable and key workers’ children if necessary.

It would be expensive in the short term, but so much cheaper long term. I don’t get why very airy places with almost no infection have to shut, while bubbles of hundreds of children are merrily spreading the virus. It’s a real flaw.

CrunchyCarrot · 01/11/2020 09:51

I agree, OP, I think schools should be closed for lockdown. Is this govt serious about lockdown or not? Doesn't seem they are, to me.

Bollss · 01/11/2020 09:52

I do because I have to. I wouldn't if I didn't have to. I don't give a shit whether anyone else does.

It's not all anyone is asking, a lot on here are asking for schools to shut.

If that's all you are asking, fine.

Sonnenscheins · 01/11/2020 09:52

No, I don't think schools shout shut.

We're locking down other areas of the economy SO THAT education and hospitals CAN stay open.

mumsneedwine · 01/11/2020 09:52

@MigGril then they'd have to admit that the damn virus does spread in schools. I mean I've tried giving it a detention and telling it it's a naughty boy but it still keeps coming. Weird 😊.

LolalovesLondon · 01/11/2020 09:55

So you’re not interested in helping others by not spreading your germs?
Nice.

Nice.

How do you get that from "I wear a mask because I have to"

Most people didn't wear a mask before they had to. Did you?

MigGril · 01/11/2020 09:57

@NiceTwin of course the children have been bubble into year groups at our school and it's the teachers moving around. Would be interested to know if that's how your school decided to do things. But staff are still then exposed to more students as they are teaching across the bubbles.

I'm a science technician, so I'm having to make sure no equipment is shared across bubbles or between teachers. It's a bit of a nightmare really.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 01/11/2020 09:59

We're locking down other areas of the economy SO THAT education and hospitals CAN stay open.

But are the hospitals really open? For anything that's not covid? Apart from phone consultations?

Shut the schools so we can deal with this quicker. If people can work from home then children can learn from home.

mumsneedwine · 01/11/2020 09:59

@NiceTwin how the hell do you teach the option blocks without students mixing ? Would genuinely like to know. We have 300 kids who do 10 subjects each from a list of 32. So lots of mixing as they do different things ???

MigGril · 01/11/2020 09:59

@mumsneedwine have you tried giving positive behavior points, maybe that's the key. Wink

TheKeatingFive · 01/11/2020 10:01

Shut the schools so we can deal with this quicker.

In ROI, case numbers are coming down very nicely with schools remaining open.

If people can work from home then children can learn from home.

I don’t even know where to begin with rubbish like this.
