The Times is reporting that we are headed for a month long lockdown until Dec 1st.
No details yet...
Why do they always announce things on the drip feed - makes it all even more stressful

It’s just appeared on sky news

Biscuitburglar · 30/10/2020 22:57

I don’t think it helps to speculate on the details until something is actually announced. I know we’re all tired and everyone’s had enough but we will get through this one day at a time.

Catwoman1985 · 30/10/2020 22:58

Exactly. If they're doing this, they need to close schools

GirlCrush · 30/10/2020 22:58

@Xenia

builders may be able tower but not if all the supplies are bulk bought so nobody can get what they need!! my store has only just started to see many building supplies replenish

PopcornPugs · 30/10/2020 22:58

I really can’t take this again.

ceeveebee · 30/10/2020 22:58

Whilst the tweet says non-essential shops open, The Times actually says: “everything could be closed except essential shops and “educational settings, including nurseries, schools and universities”

Gwenhwyfar · 30/10/2020 22:59

@ShortFatandDumpy

Ffs. We were locked down in Wales until mid July. Local lockdown all of September which went right into the Welsh Fire Break.

I have not seen another human (except Tesco click and collect man) since August. I know no one in my borough. I cant take anymore Sad

I was in lockdown in Wales until July as you say and now I'm in another country that's just gone into lockdown. I think our lockdown will last much longer than the fire break though, probably until next year. Most European countries are going into lockdown this weekend.
Aragog · 30/10/2020 22:59

Most universities appear to be barely open anyway. Might as well let it all go online at this point (Dd only has 2 f2f lessons a week at most anyway) and let the students return home rather than isolating them further.
Dd is already in an empty flat. She's currently bubbles with another nearby flat but that isn't sustainable if we go full lockdown!

Gwenhwyfar · 30/10/2020 22:59

Actually I don't know if most are, but some of the major ones are.

VaggieMight · 30/10/2020 22:59

Non essential businesses closed last time too. Clothes shops etc didn't reopen until June 15th.

Only non essential shops were closed. Businesses were not closed, but it was advised WFH if possible, if not possible then people should go to work. But the message was confusing and everyone was scared so a lot of businesses did close.

Lockheart · 30/10/2020 22:59

I also don't think it's helpful to speculate.

One question of "do you think they'll shut X?" turns into "I think they'll shut X" turns into "I heard they're going to shut X!"

It helps no-one. Let's wait and see what the official announcement is (if there is one).

colouringindoors · 30/10/2020 22:59

From Wed Ive just heard. lem my dd also has mocks.... and birthday...

Versace104 · 30/10/2020 23:00

Some places had literally less than 1 week in Tier 3, they didn't even give it a chance to work.
Those who are screaming for a full, strict lockdown, as long as it's not you who loses your income or who lives on their own.

Madhairday · 30/10/2020 23:00

@kittensarecute I'm so sorry you're struggling. Is there anyone you can talk to? It's not going to be like this forever. There are good steps forward with the vaccine, this is just to stop the health service getting so overwhelmed everything else stops. Things will get better. Please take care and keep talking here if you need to or ring the Samaritans Flowers

Numberblock7 · 30/10/2020 23:00

My hunch is tier 3 everywhere plus closing all hospitality, all indoor leisure type places, all kids activities and non professional sports, banning all indoor and outdoor household mixing (but leaving support bubbles intact) and probably something about those who are ECV. It won’t be called a lockdown, it’ll be called National tier 4 or something. I think retail, builders, garages, tradesmen etc will continue as they are at the moment and the outdoor stuff (playground, NT gardens etc) will stay open. And I think all schools will remain open, although given the data I think secondary and above should shut personally.

GirlCrush · 30/10/2020 23:01

@Appuskidu

well what are they going to do to us? if places are all open as normal its not really lockdown is it?

PinkPiranha11 · 30/10/2020 23:01

I can cope with anything as long as schools and preschools/nurseries stay open. I cannot do home school again. Not that Boris and the Sage doom-mongers listen to reason but it didn’t work last time, absolutely ridiculous to do this again. Going to be some serious mental health situations....

Dustballs · 30/10/2020 23:01

I don’t think it helps to speculate on the details until something is actually announced.

How do you help it when it's been 'leaked' to the papers like this @Biscuitburglar?

And don't you think it has been 'leaked' precisely because they want us to start speculating?

Velvetpeel · 30/10/2020 23:01

@Lockheart the trouble is that the government’s communication strategy encourages this. We should be getting all
the information up front. It stinks.

Appuskidu · 30/10/2020 23:01

@Ozgirl75

Am I reading it wrongly that this is stricter than the first one? Last time businesses could stay open (although people should work from home if they could) whereas this seems to be suggesting that ALL non essential businesses would close? I run a business, a manufacturing company. I’m not essential, but I am in that I employ people who need a wage, and I have suppliers to pay etc. Furlough has ended so what would we do with our staff? Last time we stayed open with one staff member and just about ticked over for a couple of months, living on the businesses capital (which we have NOT been able to recoup over the following 5 months, although we are on track).
What makes you think it’s stricter than the last one?

As far as I can see, schools/nurseries/universities and non-essential shops will remain open under this plan.

QueenZoopla · 30/10/2020 23:01

Kittensarecute, 💐 for you

kwest · 30/10/2020 23:01

@Versace104

Oh well, those on full wage, WFH, live with hubby and nice house and garden don't need to worry.
Exactly. My DH is new self employed (barber). We got £75 pw JSA. No other income for 15 weeks. i applied for supermarket jobs but nearly 60 so no one interested as suppose I’m in “high risk” group. What are we supposed to do if there’s another lockdown? I feel that people’s feelings about lockdown depends very much on their financial situation.
CovidClara · 30/10/2020 23:02

@guitarstringseadgbe

What would this mean for the self employed builders again? Would they not be allowed to work??
They worked through last time. They built a house opposite us.
JaffaCake70 · 30/10/2020 23:02
@Mischance you feel sorry for the teachers? Why? What about the NHS staff / the people that will lose thier jobs and businesses/ the families of those who will commit suicide?

Because the NHS don't what to be overwhelmed?

A month will turn into two months.. it's a nightnare
Thank you. NHS Phlebotomist teetering on the brink here :-(

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 30/10/2020 23:02

I can't bear it if they close schools.
