The Times is reporting that we are headed for a month long lockdown until Dec 1st.
No details yet...
Why do they always announce things on the drip feed - makes it all even more stressful

It sounds like nurseries, schools, universities and non-essential shops will still be open.

So, what’s shutting then? Just pubs?!

I’m sure that’ll work perfectly well. Hmm

Lurkingforawhile · 30/10/2020 22:51

I agree with keeping schools open, but also with not fining parents who chose temporarily to keep their children at home. Surely these are exceptional times and so the old rules re school attendance and fining shouldn't apply if a parent just wants to do the best by their family. I don't have kids though so maybe I've missed the point.

Racoonworld · 30/10/2020 22:51

@Remmy123

They cannot shut schools etc why are everyone on this site wanting this to happen!!! Ffs
I don’t want anything to shut but if I’m going to have to sacrifice seeing anyone for a month and loads more losing their jobs then it should at least be worth it. Absolutely no point with schools still open as it won’t stop the spread. So no I won’t be abiding to a lockdown
Glitterynails · 30/10/2020 22:51

Leaks to the press have been happening all the way through this. Michael Gove’s wife works for the Mail, in case that wasn’t known widely. She used to work for the Times.

kittensarecute · 30/10/2020 22:52

I'm done. This is obviously how life is going to be forever, what's the fucking point anymore I don't want to be here anymore

GirlCrush · 30/10/2020 22:52

what will full lockdown look like?

schools closed?
shops?
one walk a day?

Feminist10101 · 30/10/2020 22:52

Boris cannot lockdown Wales, Scotland etc.

Notonthestairs · 30/10/2020 22:52

Telegraph are going with Tier 4 not national lockdown.

Lurkingforawhile · 30/10/2020 22:53

@Appuskidu maybe things like gyms or hairdressers again? I'm sure they don't have a plan, and are just putting it out there over the weekend to get some ideas before they decide next week.

CherryPieface · 30/10/2020 22:53

Agree it’s disgraceful this is how we get our government news now. It’s too accurate and regular for it to be described as leaks. I’ve seen govt ministers deny that the press is being briefed to members of the press who have received the briefing!

NeverAMillionMilesAway · 30/10/2020 22:53

Nothing much will change for me- I am higher risk, so only going to work and Tesco anyway.
Schools should absolutely be the last places to close. More likely to be pubs/restaurants and etc.
Seems pretty pointless- mood around here is "fuck this, I'm not doing it again" anyway.

Xenia · 30/10/2020 22:53

Those asking about builders - there has been on time not eveni n March inEngland when builders and any other worker (other than in pubs and that kind of thing) could not work by law. Office workers and builders have been allowed to work all the time and I suspect that will continue to be the case.

Appuskidu · 30/10/2020 22:53

@GirlCrush

Rumours are suggesting it’s none of those things.
Ozgirl75 · 30/10/2020 22:54

Am I reading it wrongly that this is stricter than the first one? Last time businesses could stay open (although people should work from home if they could) whereas this seems to be suggesting that ALL non essential businesses would close?
I run a business, a manufacturing company. I’m not essential, but I am in that I employ people who need a wage, and I have suppliers to pay etc. Furlough has ended so what would we do with our staff?
Last time we stayed open with one staff member and just about ticked over for a couple of months, living on the businesses capital (which we have NOT been able to recoup over the following 5 months, although we are on track).

the80sweregreat · 30/10/2020 22:54

The mail have ' National lockdown'.

Versace104 · 30/10/2020 22:54

Oh well, those on full wage, WFH, live with hubby and nice house and garden don't need to worry.

Noideawottodo · 30/10/2020 22:54

Thank god I booked a hair appointment for Tuesday AND have a Tesco order booked.

Thatusernamewastaken · 30/10/2020 22:55

They should be closing schools and universities or it is entirely pointless

Completmentfille · 30/10/2020 22:55

Non essential businesses closed last time too. Clothes shops etc didn't reopen until June 15th.

TheoriginalLEM · 30/10/2020 22:55

My DD has her mocks in November, am really hoping they don't close the schools

Tanith · 30/10/2020 22:56

He should have done this last week! Angry

What on earth is the point in locking down and not including the schools? An extended half term was the perfect time to do it.

Aragog · 30/10/2020 22:56

I don't think people do want schools to close, but the reality is - if they are open it's not lockdown.

There are still 31+ household mixing in small overcrowded, poorly ventilated rooms with no social distancing. Those children and staff then go home and spend time with their own households.

Regardless of what the media is saying Covid is spreading in schools, even in primary schools. The children, especially the youngest ones, might not be showing symptoms but parents and staff are catching it despite no close contact between them. Children often don't show symptoms so are not being tested very often, especially little ones.

The only place I had close contact, other than with Dh, was school with children. I was being careful as vulnerable but still caught it. I had no close or prolonged contact with any of the other staff. My role means I am not in a bubble as I teach every child. So I ate lunch on my own and I didn't sit in a staff room. Staff meetings took place over zoom away from other staff. The only close contact was with children.

Subsequently we had 10 staff test positive in less than three weeks plus some parents in those classes. Speed across bubbles where staff are distanced. Coincidence?? Parents do not know how many staff are affected, let alone local media.

MushMonster · 30/10/2020 22:56

A whole month! That is quite a lot. We will have wait till the announcement.....
They seem to have taken to leakthe news, instead of proper giving the news to their citizensSad

colouringindoors · 30/10/2020 22:56

Can't see how there's much alternative given the numvers but it's a disaster for the UK on top of everything else.

Praying my Nov hosp appt I've been waiting months for isn't a casualty.

Noideawottodo · 30/10/2020 22:57

According to the Times, they are not closing schools or nurseries.
