Thought I'd make a thread for those of us who just tested positive within the last week to help each other through our covid journeys Halloween Smile

@SheilaTakeABow it's ok. Writing on a screen and the "upside downess" of life in general at the moment makes things hard to translate sometimes

ScottishDream · 02/11/2020 15:58

Just cooked some garlic bread as a test. Very weird, I’d say 90% of my sense of smell has completely gone.

SheilaTakeABow · 02/11/2020 18:12

It is so weird. I'd assumed it was just a total loss, but there are elements left. Savoury stuff really brings on the chlorine feel.

Pollynextdoor · 02/11/2020 18:17

OMG cannot believe the man was trying to book a test in a public library while coughing including asking people to come over to help him🤯

slummymummy35 · 02/11/2020 18:38

My sense of taste and smell has completely gone! Along with my appetite. It's so weird. Everything tastes yuck!
I also have little kids and it's impossible to distance from them. Really just hoping this is as bad as it gets...

ScottishDream · 02/11/2020 19:22

Ah yay, DD has a temperature. She’s been given calpol and a bath, ate a decent dinner, and is now refusing bed. Fingers crossed she bounces back quickly, children being ill is so much worse than me having it.
DH is coughing a bit but says he feels fine otherwise.

SheilaTakeABow · 02/11/2020 19:47

Ah, @ScottishDream, that's a bugger. How old is DD? You're so right; it's much worse when they're I'll than when you are. However, I think, if anything's clear, it's that children get a very mild illness.
@slummymummy35, the taste thing is horrible, and, for me, it's the thing that makes it official it's Covid! I haven't lost my appetite, but then everything I eat is such a disappointment Grin

walksen · 02/11/2020 19:53

I completely lost all smell. Could not smell vinegar. Even tried white spirits. Nothing.

Taste was 95% gone. Cannot taste sugar. Can barely taste salt. Can taste hot spices somewhat. It is a bit weird having only the texture/consistency of food when eating.

ScottishDream · 02/11/2020 20:05

@SheilaTakeABow DD is 6. She seems absolutely fine in herself, was a bit tearful pre calpol but since then had her dinner, a bath, and happily read me her school book. I just hope she’s not worse tomorrow. DS has had a bit of diarrhoea but it’s impossible to tell if he’s ill at the best of times as he just keeps going.

I just keep thinking I’m going to wake up tomorrow and everything will be back to normal. Getting my head round that this is life now is hard. I am very lucky - DH has a secure well paid job working from home, we have a lovely house and garden near friends and family. But all the flavour has gone from life - the parties, the after school stuff, the meals out. Everything.

SheilaTakeABow · 02/11/2020 20:47

That's good @ScottishDream. Little ones always seem to bounce back so quickly! I really just want to get this two weeks over - even if I'm not back to 100%, will feel out of danger.
@walksen, it's miserable isn't it? I've found hot, crunchy food to be the best today - almost distracts me from the waft of chlorine it sends up my nose!

Dustballs · 02/11/2020 22:11

OMG cannot believe the man was trying to book a test in a public library while coughing including asking people to come over to help him🤯
@Pollynextdoor I’ve thought about this and realised - if you don’t have a smart phone or iPad/computer at home, how and where are you supposed to book a test? The library is the only place I can think of.

PositivelyConfused23 · 02/11/2020 22:18

@Dustballs you can phone 119 and book one through them

Llioed · 03/11/2020 07:17

I have just discovered this thread -- thank you!! I got my positive result on Saturday (Halloween) and all I have left is coughing, headache (which has been constant) and loss of smell/taste. My DH got his positive result yesterday morning.

The first 24/48 hours my symptoms were fever - face was very hot but the rest of my body was really cold - I just couldn't warm up! Joints and muscles and bones aches. Sore throat (cough developed 2 days later) extreme tiredness and headache.

I lost my sense of smell/taste three days after onset of initial symptoms listed above. Can I please ask the MNetters who have lost their sense of smell/taste - how long did this last? I'm now on day 3 and just wondered how long it was before you your sense of smell/taste back? Thanks in advance.

SheilaTakeABow · 03/11/2020 08:08

Morning.

How is everyone today?

I had a horrible night, a weird tingling all over my body, I couldn't catch my thoughts and I just had this terrifying certainty that this is going to get much worse for me. Feeling better now, and obviously the dark thoughts were brought on by reading one of those bloody FB groups I joined where everyone ended up in hospital Hmm.

@ScottishDream, how's DD?

@ContemplatingLife435, how are you getting on?

@Llioed, my sense of taste and smell went wonky yesterday, with a horrible chloriney sensation, but yesterday evening could smell my face cream. Not experimented further today. Hope you feel better soon Flowers

ScottishDream · 03/11/2020 08:12

I’ve woken up feeling much more normal today. Mostly a bit like I’ve got a hangover after a heavy night out!

Children are playing with the marble run, DH is off to get a Covid test.

ScottishDream · 03/11/2020 08:15

@SheilaTakeABow Late night anxiety is the worst. I was doom scrolling through various words case scenarios too.

DD has a bit of a stomach ache but otherwise seems fine.

@Llioed I have lost my sense of smell too. Hopefully not for ever!

SheilaTakeABow · 03/11/2020 08:20

Doom scrolling - such a perfect description Grin

ScottishDream · 03/11/2020 09:17

Self isolation- the app (where I inputted my test code) has me self isolating until midnight on 10th, so free from 11th.

If I fill in the link for a self isolation note for work using the date my symptoms started, it tells me I am self isolating until 8th, so presumably free from 9th.

Which is correct?

DD will be free from 13th, as will DS. They both started with v mild symptoms a day or so after me, so the 10 day count should be less, but if they stay isolating for the full 2 weeks hopefully they’ve done their time.

slummymummy35 · 03/11/2020 09:40

Morning everyone! Hope you are feeling good. Had a good night, on my own in the king size bed while my husband and kids slept in the kids room 🤣
Feel really rough today, like I have a hangover and my body is aching. Got really cold and shivery last night before bed and it wasn't pleasant but passed when I snuggled into bed.
Still no taste and smell, in fact it's now a nasty taste and I don't want to eat anything. Just hoping my mum is ok as I spent time with her on Friday evening.
Hope you are all ok x

SheilaTakeABow · 03/11/2020 10:08

@ScottishDream, I think it's meant to be from when your symptoms started, but then the app can only go on the test date?

@slummymummy35, sorry to hear you're feeling rough, fingers crossed that this is as bad as it gets.

zighead · 03/11/2020 10:41

@ScottishDream
I ignored the app as it goes from the test date (only applicable to those who are asymptomatic) and went from the day of my first symptom.

PrivateD00r · 03/11/2020 11:44

I developed symptoms and so tested on Friday, positive result on Sat.

Fri - tight chest, slight cough then temp rose to 38
Sat - very frequent coughing, temp 38 all day, felt like flu. Didn't get out of bed much. Very tired.
Sun - felt a bit better. Was up and about, though achey and tired. Temp sat around 37.6. Cough much better but tight chest and awfully sore throat
Mon - Terrible tummy aches and nausea, no appetite. Taste and smell are gone. Temp mostly normal
Tues - Back to feeling like flu, with sore throat and nausea. Not able to get out of bed as yet. Temp 38

Will see what the rest of the week brings. DH is a police officer so can't work from home, so at least he is able to sort the dc.

SheilaTakeABow · 03/11/2020 15:24

Sorry to hear that @PrivateD00r, you're on a similar timeline to me. It's very much a case of seeing how each day goes isn't it? Recovery doesn't appear to be linear at all. Almost dreading feeling better, as I'm sure that's when the frustration of not being allowed will really kick in Grin

ScottishDream · 03/11/2020 15:49

@PrivateD00r sounds like you are a bit poorly. Take it easy and relax a lot.

Other than the weird sinus issue and feeling a bit run down, I’m mostly ok. I’m drinking lots of hot drinks as the steam and heat makes me feel better. I’ve a slight chesty cough, but nothing awful.

Fingers crossed it doesn’t get worse.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 03/11/2020 16:36

I tested positive on Monday. Not feeling too bad, mild flu symptoms with a bit of headache, no temperature and no cough.

But I am so anxious that I will get worse. It doesn't help that I'm a nurse so I've only really seen the worst cases! I KNOW most people recover fine at home but somehow at 3am that knowledge escapes me...
