I went to a drive thru test centre yesterday so I'm home and self isolating until I get the results.

Anybody else?

I am still waiting. Took the the test on Friday afternoon. Been stuck inside all weekend.

I am feeling fine. Well, I feel like I have a cold. But it has dawned on me that this self isolation will not work over the winter.
I am very compliant, but even I am getting a bit pissed off. We isolated for a couple of days for my DS’s cough (negative). And now we have stayed in all weekend for me waiting. It’s a lovely morning, possibly the best weather of half term and we’re not going out.

There is no way this is going to work if you have got to wait three days for a result if a family is passing a cold between them.

Giganticshark · 26/10/2020 10:45

I know it's only a few days but we're an active family, it's driven us mad staying in this weekend. Making up for it now haha.

ChoccyJules · 26/10/2020 10:57

I know, I feel so bad for the kids. My husband had taken some Leave to go on trips with them and now they are stuck waiting for my result.

Hardbackwriter · 26/10/2020 11:12

Still waiting too - day 3 of being stuck inside with a (now completely well, of course Hmm) toddler and I just had to cancel the dentist's appointment that I've been waiting for since April!

RevIMJolly · 26/10/2020 11:19

I’m going to get the bikes out of the shed and pump up the tires so we can go as soon as we get the OK. Am convinced it is not COVID.
Three days!!!!!

christinarossetti19 · 26/10/2020 11:21

I had a slight temp on Saturday so went to drive through test centre. Empty with 600+ test slots available.

Said 48 hours, not that yet but really want to know one way or another.

Vague cold symptoms, temp going up and down, no cough.

christinarossetti19 · 26/10/2020 11:23

RevIMJolly yes, I agree that fast turn around, plus plentiful, accessible test centres are necessary to make the system do what it's meant to do.

HotPatootiebootie · 26/10/2020 11:35

I just got my result. I am negative! but took a lot longer than the last test I did. Pretty much 48 hours.

RandallBoggs · 26/10/2020 11:57

Just got my DD’s result. Negative! My DH and my DD are putting their coats on as we speak Grin

FlyLight · 26/10/2020 12:10

Took a test yesterday morning. Absolutely dreading a positive result and possibly having to tell my colleagues they need to isolate over half term! Have totally lost taste and smell so I think it's likely Sad

MarjorytheTrashHeap · 26/10/2020 12:19

Did one for me last week - took over 100 hours to get the result. Had to get another family member tested this weekend and the result was back in 12 hours!

girlsyearapart · 26/10/2020 14:22

@FlyLight that’s what made dh go for his (positive ) test he usually has a really strong sense of taste and smell
He has no temp and only a bit of a cough

Cantaloupeisland · 26/10/2020 14:26

@girlsyearapart same for me with the lack of temp or cough, have had really bad nausea and upset stomach though. Joy!

christinarossetti19 · 26/10/2020 14:47

48 hours for me now.

Can't complain, but it's beautiful outside and me and children had tickets to a museum that we've all been wanting to get back to.

I sort of hope that my test is positive, as we've already done 3 days of SI.

AvoidingRealHumans · 26/10/2020 15:01

Had ours today, exactly 47hours after the test.
This was Essex

walksen · 26/10/2020 15:10

Confirmed positive 😞52 hours for result.

girlsyearapart · 26/10/2020 15:14

@christinarossetti19 I’ve just cancelled Science and Natural history museums 😔

RevIMJolly · 26/10/2020 15:38

70 hours... still waiting. Watching the afternoon light fading.

There is no way that people will isolate on the off chance that they have it if they have got to wait this long for a result.

I will stick to the regulations, but I must admit, if this happens all through winter, there will come a time when I will not feel so compliant.

My mum just told me that she thinks we're being really silly all staying in the house because a toddler has a cough. I don't exactly think she's right, but...
RevIMJolly · 26/10/2020 16:31

.... I can see her point.

I think that for me it could be the cumulative effect that would shift thinking.

If we are looking at entire families pinging in and out of self isolation for three or four days at a time because the testing is not fit for purpose, then I can see people being reluctant to go for a test and write off any symptoms as 'just a cold' until it is too late.

In the meantime, they could have spread the virus

christinarossetti19 · 26/10/2020 16:48

Yes, I agree. I got onto the booking site as soon as I realised that I had a temperature. Partly as I have two children in two different secondary schools and have sort of waiting for one of us to become symptomatic.

The testing experience was very quick and easy, partly because we have a car so could go to a drive through. Now it's gone 48 hours, I'm becoming less certain that I'll be so responsible in the future tbh. Not because I mind having to stay in, but because I feel bad depriving my children of being able to go out or go to school unnecessarily.

Not deliberately spreading the virus, but more exactly that 'It's probably just a bug'.

If the result comes this evening or early tomorrow morning, I think it will feel '48 hours' enough though, having said that.

I'm with you on this. And it is very worrying as I suspect we both are keen to do the right thing.
christinarossetti19 · 26/10/2020 17:20

Keen to do the right thing AND have the luxury of being able to work at home.

Would I be keen to SI and get tested if I wouldn't get paid if I couldn't work? Honestly, much less so with such mild symptoms.

Hardbackwriter · 26/10/2020 17:52

I do wonder if we'd have hesitated more about taking DS for a test if it weren't half term, and we're both on holiday anyway. Though then not self-isolating if we did have coronavirus going through the family would mean DH potentially taking into his school, which has only had one case so far.

Just realised that if the result doesn't turn up by tomorrow morning I also have to cancel my midwife appointment. My fear is that it will now come back inconclusive because we did our best but it's pretty hard to do on a two year old so I feel there's a good chance we stuffed it up. If I'm 100% honest I don't know what we'll do in that case - DH is adamant that DS isn't having another test since he hasn't even got any symptoms any more.
