F you Boris

There will be civil unrest in Manchester following this and I don’t blame them.

People won’t follow the rules as they have no respect for the government any more. Does anyone? Incompetence bullshit and lies.

@lemonsandlimes123

crapple - you advertised that you think that GM is in unique position and then promptly acknowledged that well actually maybe it's not. People in glass houses and all that!
Umm, no. The word unique was yours (best to check before trying to have a pop). What I said was that the GM experience in 2020 has been different to the large majority of the UK. Which it clearly has. There were parts of Lancashire who were under local restrictions as of August too, and then also the Leicester situation. The salient point, then, is that your claim that GM is no different to anywhere else wrt lockdowns is shat on by the fact that it's actually different to almost everywhere else.

@GetOffYourHighHorse

'Speaking of rat's arses, I doubt Andy Burnham and his next landslide electoral victory could give one about what you think.'

Yes the first correct thing you've said well done! it would indeed be quite extraordinary if he gave a rat's ass about what someone he's never met thought. Although he is keen on adulation so you never know.

Don't delude yourself enough to imagine you're capable of assessing what's correct on this subject.

@BitOfFun

The minute somebody uses the word 'bleating', I can just smell the Farrow And Ball Biscuit.
So hypocritically judgemental.
lemonsandlimes123 · 20/10/2020 19:53

crapple - I said it wasn't unique, you said I was wrong - thereby implying that it was unique. Your entire argument is shat on by your own use of the word 'almost' in your last sentence. HTH

HipHopBanzai · 20/10/2020 19:54

Wow, there's some deluded, selfish people on this thread. So much for all being in it together.

AB and the GM Leaders (both both the Labour & Tory parties) weren't asking for more money because they thought Manchester was special, they'd costed the proposals and asked for more because of GM's significantly larger population.

The whole thing is a joke. The GM Leaders are right - this lockdown won't work. Do you really think closing some pubs and soft play centres will do anything other push people into poverty?

I'd like to see some of the 'I'm alright Jack' crew on this thread live on the £5 an hour that some GM residents will now be trying to support their families on.

ChloeCrocodile · 20/10/2020 19:55

Ah right so social distancing works in some places just not Greater Manchester. Got it. Nothing to do with compliance..

That’s not what I said. You are asserting that the increased cases are due to non-compliance with the rules. The onus is on you to prove it.

FractionalGains · 20/10/2020 19:55

EXACTLY

I literally said it wasn't unique. HTH.
HotSauceCommittee · 20/10/2020 19:57

Everyone has short memories: Dominic Cummings? Anyone remember him and what he was allowed to get away with?
Fuck Johnson and his incompetent, greedy, corrupt government. You cannot expect people who are already skint to do as they are told. They don't have much to lose. The risk of Covid is much smaller than anything else when you are on minimum wage and one of the working poor.
I hope Manchester revolts and that it brings down this government.
Good luck to you, Manchester.

Napqueen1234 · 20/10/2020 19:57

If (and when) it doesn’t work how long until people stop complying at all? What’s the point in losing your livelihood and everything good about your life and also not being able to see family if the numbers keep rising? People will just stop.

i very much doubt that many will die from other factors involved with COVID

In the long run I reckon it will be many more. There is an Imperial study suggesting 500,000 extra people died of cancer after the banking crash. I think it said 10,000 suicides. It’s astonishing the extent of the link between the economy and public health.

(I believe these were global figures but I’d need to double check)

ZenNudist · 20/10/2020 19:58

Lots of stupidity on this thread. Why weigh in when you're so ill informed about what AB tried to do. Do you realise he spoke up about the north being taken out of lockdown at the same time as the South?

We never got R down sufficiently, then the government invited everybody to eat out and help out, or tried scaring people back into offices. And this is all AB's fault? Hmmmm. And having all the students back so landlords can rinse them for rent. Not a good idea.

But by all means believe the government spin on this. It's all fine til they come for you.

I have well paid WFH job. I dont need this money. I do however have a heart and dont want to see people destitute. BORIS is a bully. He and his government are lying hypocrites.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 20/10/2020 20:00

'Don't delude yourself enough to imagine you're capable of assessing what's correct on this subject.'

Ooo get you!

I think crapple is Andy Grin. Or his number 1 fan. (One of the 2).

BarelyMerry · 20/10/2020 20:01

This is going to be Boris's Poll Tac moment - a policy that's so unbelievably crass, unfair & divisive that it is completely indefensible. It will be the end of him (and Dominic Cummings too)

Babyroobs · 20/10/2020 20:02

@notroundthebend

I'm quite surprised they've not sacked the mayor and used his salary down the pub for a final knees up! Silly man.. he's caused riots and unrest for digging his heels in. Just a question of how many will Follow suit.
Exactly this. I used to really like Andy Burnham but gosh has he been irritating over this. I hope his decisions have not cost lives.
littlestrawby · 20/10/2020 20:02

Honestly this thread was so depressing to read. Why can't people understand that AB was fighting for enough money to support the GM population?! The amount required to match what was given to Merseyside and Lancs for Tier 3 on a per capita basis was c£85m. So straight comparisons to what was given to those regions are meaningless.

BJ offered 60m, AB said that wasn't enough to make it work but was willing to go down to 65m.

There's an element of sneering down noses running through certain peoples' arguments and quite frankly I'm sick of it.

By the way, the government's own advisor has himself said that he isn't convinced the tier 3 restrictions will be enough to help anyway.

lemonsandlimes123 · 20/10/2020 20:02

crapple - then we are in agreement. GM is not in a uniquely different position to other areas of the country that have dealt with differing levels of lockdown and Tier 3 is less stringent than the restrictions that were imposed nationwide in the spring.

justgeton · 20/10/2020 20:02

@Bromeliad

They keep waffling along about our local hospital being full. It's always sodding full by now. It deals with half the Peak District as well as our borough. The local Public Health director was trying to point this out at the weekend. So their scary graphs are great except they don't seem to bother to have spoken to people on the ground who know what it's like normally.

Surely that's more reason to worry. If the hospitals are usually full, where do you suppose they're going to put the additional Covid patients ?

GetOffYourHighHorse · 20/10/2020 20:03

'hope Manchester revolts and that it brings down this government. Good luck to you, Manchester.'

It's not GOT you know.

I hope Manchester manages to get rates down and then reduce the amount of hospitalisations and deaths. I think bringing down the Government is a bit ambitious tbh.

Ohthatsgreat · 20/10/2020 20:03

Well said. AB always said lockdown was done on London’s timetable.

Now we have Whitehall imposing poverty on GM lowest paid workers because their crap track and trace and testing doesn’t hold up to scrutiny. If people aren’t complying with rules it’s because they’ve been confusing and ill thought out and people are sick of how long this has gone on. Funny how there’s enough money to give contracts to Tory MP related businesses to supply PPE and millions for consultants.
This government is rotten and people are sick of it.

Really? More like Burnham will have blood on his hands. If he thinks he knows better than the Manchester ITU consultant who last week told him to shut up and shut down then God help Manchester.

We will only be in agreement if you clarify that you understand GM is in a very different position to the very large majority of the UK, has had stricter restrictions imposed for longer with corresponding impact on our economy and that as such, our leaders are completely reasonable to seek solutions that recognise this.
megletthesecond · 20/10/2020 20:11

Burnham was quite rightly trying to protect Manchester. Just because other towns have had shit deals doesn't mean he should roll over.
Johnson (and Cummings) are cunts. They'll see their mates are ok, sod everyone else.

Mumof3almost4 · 20/10/2020 20:11

I live in Greater Manchester and am fully behind Andy Burnham. Boris Johnson is a twat who has no idea what he is doing whether it's regarding corona virus, Brexit or whatever Angry
