Time taken to get test results

I’m really annoyed it takes so long! Surely the government should have this sorted by now. The whole family is on day 3 off school and work. My sons cough was borderline in my opinion. I’m wishing I hadn’t bothered getting him tested so we weren’t in this position! We’ve been tested before and had results in under 12 hrs, so it is possible.

I can’t be the only one thinking like this, surely the delay in getting results is going to put some people off being tested at all.

Of course I can! We’ve been inside since Monday morning and even after chasing (today, after five full day’s waiting) we could have another three days to find out it’s negative . We’ve lost income, schooling, our kids are gutted and climbing the walls. I wish we’d never got her tested and carried on but my bloody moral compass is keeping us here.

This government have blood on their hands.

musicalfrog · 18/10/2020 08:40

Yes the govt have let us all down severely. It's horrifying that more isn't being made of this.

Whycatspaint · 18/10/2020 08:47

86 hours now for us still nothing...

Dickorydockwhatthe · 18/10/2020 09:42

146 hours for me. 6th day and still waiting. I think they have lost them but they don't even know. My stress levels are through the roof, Sam Foxy wish I never got it done.

I think ours have been lost too. A friend had the test at the same time and place and hers back within 24 hours.
Elizabeth110100 · 18/10/2020 10:13

Oh gosh some of these waiting times are ridiculous. Here I am getting frustrated with waiting for 48 hours (still no result).

AHippoNamedBooBooButt · 18/10/2020 10:17

No &foxy* it's not the advice but legally, you only have to isolate once there has been a positive result. Until you get that result though there is nothing to stop you from continuing as normal. Just like even if you know you have been a close contact of a positive case, you do not legally have to SI until you are contacted by t&t.
It's just "advice".

Dickorydockwhatthe · 18/10/2020 10:27

I now don't know where to stand with work or school. Kids can go back 10 days after onset of symptoms, but il will have to take the full 14 days off, not wages plus half term. That's 3 weeks with no pay. I'm literally going mad between these 4 walls and yet supposed to just accept it because that's the system. I could do another test but morally that will be seen as wrong. I've completed myself of the deal the government need to do theirs. I m so angry, upset and defeated but it all.

kittlesticks · 18/10/2020 11:08

Anyone on this thread get their result today so far?
Coming up to 70 hours now.

Notthisnotthat · 18/10/2020 11:15

I was tested on Friday early evening, at a drive through centre. Was told the results were taking about 12 hours but nothing yet. Being told 12 hours and now being over 36 hours just adds to the anxiety.

raeray · 18/10/2020 11:20

Reading this is helpful- I swabbed Tuesday for last post so should be back by now....
I'm swabbing weekly for one of the trials but it's normally much quicker than this.
I suppose demand has increased massively though.
This week I've had awful headaches all week with painkillers not touching them so have isolated just incase - typical then the swab taking its longest yet 🙈

Moomin37 · 18/10/2020 11:46

@kittlesticks Still waiting here (74 hours). Friend had a test at the same centre the day before and received the result in 48 hours.

itbemay1 · 18/10/2020 11:52

DS tested on wed and results back Friday, I tested on Thursday and no results back. It's all a bit hit and miss, mine was supposed to be within 12 hours as work related etc!

kittlesticks · 18/10/2020 11:57

Thanks @Moomin37 - it's now 70 hours for us.

BatSegundo · 18/10/2020 12:00

Still waiting. 4 full days now. Been isolating since Tuesday. DS has been really unwell, which has been worrying. I'm ECV so the waiting has been excruciating. Sad What a mess Angry

RiseUpWoman · 18/10/2020 12:28

Has anyone had their test after 90 hours?

buckleten · 18/10/2020 12:46

We are on the 6th day now and still nothing 🙁

RiseUpWoman · 18/10/2020 12:55

I can't believe how awful the system is. It's 99 hours for us. 119 says to call back on Tuesday.
Elizabeth110100 · 18/10/2020 13:09

I just spoke to 119 and at least I know our test is definitely in the system. Apparently we should know by tomorrow morning but I'm not holding my breath.

Tinkersaur · 18/10/2020 13:13

115 hours and counting for us.
I cant believe its taking so long and minewhilst we lose money, kids lose out on schooling and I'm pretty sure this isn't helping my postnatal health

I never getting the kids tested again

I didn’t realise this. So if one of our household gets symptoms and then gets a test, the rest of us can carry on as normal unless the result is positive. There can be no police comeback?

Bit like the MP who had a test then travelled on the train to London. That would legally be ok?

I get that it’s not morally ok or ideal. But we are a family of 5 with one child in year 11 and a key worker parent. We have made the decision not to start the process of isolating and testing unless one of us has really clear “barn door” symptoms, not just any old cough or a couple of hours of feeling a bit hot/cold. Our threshold is pretty high and very specific to the three symptoms.

Otherwise life will basically be spent continually falling apart / on pause, with the odd few days of “normal”.

MarjorytheTrashHeap · 18/10/2020 13:27

Gosh there are some very long waiting times. I am a teacher and managed to access a critical worker test very quickly on Friday morning but I had hoped the results would come through by today so I can let my school know. I had to call up to arrange it and just gave the lady my details over the phone so no code or anything, which makes me think it will be hard to follow it up if it does take a long time. I agree this is really going to put people off testing. DH is really annoyed as he can't go in to his school and has to try to teach his class, who will be in the classroom, over camera with our not-great WiFi.

AHippoNamedBooBooButt · 18/10/2020 13:29

lemons taken direct from the gov website:

From 28 September, you could be fined if you do not stay at home and self-isolate following a positive test result for COVID-19, or if you are contacted by NHS Test and Trace and instructed to self-isolate because you are a contact of someone who has had a positive test result.9 Oct 2020

So following a positive test result or contacted by t&t. No legal comeback for not isolating whilst awaiting result or if a close contact has tested positive, you dont have to isolate if you are not contacted by t&t. The wording is very clear.

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 18/10/2020 13:42

Yep, same experience. DS had a cough (still has it actually) and I took him to a drive through test on Friday last week. Results back on Kobday afternoon. Entire family self isolating for four days. Result was negative. Agreed, it should be 48 hours max, god knows how often we will have to repeat this process!!

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 18/10/2020 13:47

Kobday?? That was supposed to say Monday!! 🤦‍♀️
