Time taken to get test results

I’m really annoyed it takes so long! Surely the government should have this sorted by now. The whole family is on day 3 off school and work. My sons cough was borderline in my opinion. I’m wishing I hadn’t bothered getting him tested so we weren’t in this position! We’ve been tested before and had results in under 12 hrs, so it is possible.

I can’t be the only one thinking like this, surely the delay in getting results is going to put some people off being tested at all.

Got mine, negative, 60 hours. Way, way longer than in April or July.

ChasingRainbows19 · 17/10/2020 09:41

My relatives had tests a couple of weeks ago, told two days. One came back after 12 hours and the others ( tested a different day) was back within 24.... seems like a lottery tbh

foxysocks · 17/10/2020 09:41

My daughter was tested at 8am Tuesday. Still
Waiting.

Both my children have missed four days of school, I’ve lost hundreds through not being able to work, my husband has been unable to meet his emotionally vulnerable students, my son has missed two football training sessions and his mental health is fragile already. We cannot leave the house.

We called today and the lovely test centre worker told us it was ridiculous but the govt have told them they cannot chase until 5 days which is tomorrow. And even then they can only send an email to chase.

It’s appalling. My daughter has been coughing since Monday afternoon which is why we got the test in the first place but honestly, we won’t do this again. We cannot afford to, financially or emotionally.

Feelingconfused2020 · 17/10/2020 10:23

@foxysocks it's so ridiculous isn't it!? I'm still waiting from Wednesday morning they go on about how important it is for kids to receive schooling yet they don't prioritise tests for teachers.

Feelingconfused2020 · 17/10/2020 10:27

@dragonlegs have you got yours yet? We had our tests at the same time. I'm in the east so wondering if it's because its a tier one area.

kittlesticks · 17/10/2020 11:15

Massive sigh, nearly 48 hours now.

DragonLegs · 17/10/2020 11:21

Been over 72hrs for us now. Still waiting.

Tomliboosrule · 17/10/2020 12:36

Also why isn’t there a website where you can put in the test barcode and check the result? It’s ridiculous!

kittlesticks · 17/10/2020 13:02

Exactly. Why isn't there a place you can check that you are still in the system? It's so ridiculous. This is why people aren't isolating in my opinion, too long waiting for the result. It's been 48 hours for us now. South east UK.

Feelingconfused2020 · 17/10/2020 13:08

I just rang them and they said to wait a minimum of 5 days before chasing. I have an unrelated prescription I can't collect so my daughter has to go without her medication (it's not anything dangerous to go without but still) and it will mean another day off school for everyone. It's totally unacceptable. I have written to my mp.

buckleten · 17/10/2020 13:22

Monday morning at 8pm for drive through test, still no result yet.. have called to escalate but they said wait another 3 days, and if still nothing just isolate for the full 14 days!!

buckleten · 17/10/2020 13:23

8am that should have said!

Feelingconfused2020 · 17/10/2020 13:24

@buckleten surely 10 days for the person with symptoms. That's shocking! It just makes me think they've lost tests. I don't trust what they say at all.

Aragog · 17/10/2020 13:25

I had a routine one in hospital on Tuesday morning. Results came back the next morning - about 23-25 hours. Positive.

Feelingconfused2020 · 17/10/2020 13:25

@buckleten do you might we asking what tier you are in? I wonder if they've just put tier 1 results as low priority.

Aragog · 17/10/2020 13:26

Friend had a drive through one on Wednesday lunchtime. Result (negative) came through Friday early evening.

buckleten · 17/10/2020 13:32

We are in tier 1, south east

NewCatMummy · 17/10/2020 13:33

Tested Wednesday, still waiting for a result. Am a key worker. Will be very reluctant to get tested if we get symptoms again, it’s ridiculous waiting this long.

RiseUpWoman · 17/10/2020 13:39

Tested Wednesday am still waiting we are SE.

kittlesticks · 17/10/2020 16:34

Anyone got any updates? 50 hours for us now... depressing!

foxysocks · 17/10/2020 18:21

106 hours and still waiting

Feelingconfused2020 · 17/10/2020 18:24

78 hrs...

kittlesticks · 17/10/2020 18:41

I wrote to my MP but I don't think that'll help - he's one of the idiots responsible for the mess Sad

Izitso · 17/10/2020 18:50

I'm sure to be tested again in Monday for ONS survey but haven't had last week's result yet - it was done last Monday! I'll end up with a backlog of tests! Can anyone tell me - are they emailed to us?

MangoM · 17/10/2020 23:02

@DragonLegs
I'm in Leeds. Our test went to Glasgow for testing.

It's so frustrating that it took so long to get a result. We rang our GP on Thursday as DS was still really struggling and he assessed him over the phone as we hadn't received our covid result for us to be seen in person. By the time we received the negative result on Friday night DS had got worse and we ended up calling 111 today and visited an emergency doctor only to be told he had an ear infection all along. If we'd got the result back within a reasonable timeframe, we would've been able to get him checked over properly two days ago and not have had him screaming and crying all day long the last two days Angry
