Time taken to get test results

I’m really annoyed it takes so long! Surely the government should have this sorted by now. The whole family is on day 3 off school and work. My sons cough was borderline in my opinion. I’m wishing I hadn’t bothered getting him tested so we weren’t in this position! We’ve been tested before and had results in under 12 hrs, so it is possible.

I can’t be the only one thinking like this, surely the delay in getting results is going to put some people off being tested at all.

Dd developed a cough on Monday. Ordered a home test which arrived on Tuesday morning- posted back by lunchtime and she got notification it arrived at the lab at 11:30pm. Got the result at 6 pm today ( weds) negative thankfully.

Powerof4 · 22/10/2020 08:27

47 hours to get my negative result in the SE

RiseUpWoman · 22/10/2020 11:30

Day 8 and ours have come back inconclusive.

Isadora2007 · 22/10/2020 12:08

Day 8 we got our positive results back! Interestingly I also received a negative result from a retest taken on day 7.
Track and trace are struggling...

rooty123 · 22/10/2020 15:22

@riseupwoman oh no! Did you do it yourself?

rooty123 · 22/10/2020 15:23

@Isadora2007 which one do you think is right?! Have you been around someone who definitely has it?

RiseUpWoman · 22/10/2020 15:27

Yes - am wondering if I didn't do it properly but have had one before and think I shoved it up my nose for long enough.

bucketofcoffee · 22/10/2020 15:40

28 hours from testing to results for DS at a local drive-through.
I was really impressed having read this thread and assumed it would be about 5 days.

Isadora2007 · 22/10/2020 15:52

@rooty123 it would have been positive a week ago. Probably too late on day 7 for a positive test then- 7/9 in our extended family have tested positive.

midlifespices · 22/10/2020 16:16

8 days is ridiculous. Meanwhile, everyone you had contact with prior to booking a test has been merrily carrying on.. I'm so furious about this. Why is there so little about this in the press?

Isadora2007 · 22/10/2020 17:49

@midlifespices it’s actually made worse as I’m patient facing with vulnerable people. I felt awful about that and now those I inadvertently put at risk will be told to self isolate for a few days after being around others for over a week when at risk of developing and spreading Covid.
It’s madness it really is.

BatSegundo · 22/10/2020 22:05

Test back late evening day 7 and is 'inconclusive'. Now we are 48 hours from the retest and still nothing.

Changedmyname26 · 22/10/2020 22:35

Ordered a home test Tues morning for dd, arrived, tested and sent back Weds, hoping for a result tomorrow but doubt it now! Should i have received an email to say it had arrived at the test centre?

Sparklesocks · 23/10/2020 11:57

I did my home test on Wednesday (21st) and put it in that evening’s post, received my negative result this morning at 7am - so less than 48 hours. I was quite impressed as I know some people have been waiting days and days. In SE London.

kittlesticks · 23/10/2020 21:32

Just an update from me, day 8 here and no results. Must be lost I guess.

kittlesticks · 24/10/2020 06:29

Ha! Results just came (negative) after 8.5 days. About 204 hours! I'm wondering if it's a coincidence that my MP's assistant replied to me yesterday to ask for an update and I responded adding my DS's details and asking her to chase it if she could?

buckleten · 24/10/2020 20:11

Had results (negative) this morning, after 12 days!

Changedmyname26 · 24/10/2020 23:07

Got the result for DD this morning at 8am (negative) also she was a close contact so still another week of isolating for her

Noregrets78 · 25/10/2020 13:49

Day 7 here of no test results... what happens if we just never hear? Are we supposed to get retested?

bootsandcats · 27/10/2020 03:41

We've just got ours back (negative), after 16 days!

lightlypoached · 27/10/2020 08:45

I wondered why mine were taking ages then realised I needed to register the kits. Doh ! Got the results in seconds after that.

Stupid complicated fucking system.
