@tobee neither IBS nor the medication taken for it have been discussed as an issue with regard to the vaccine in the last two days. It is specifically people with known allergies that have resulted in previous anaphylactic type reactions and carry epi pens, who have been advised should not have the vaccine for the time being.
IBS is a group of gastrointestinal symptoms without any evidence of underlying bowel damage. If the vaccine impacts IBS, it has not been reported in relation to the two nurses who reacted to the vaccine yesterday.

Any good news, particularly about the Oxford Vaccine, today? Hitting a bit of a brick wall with all the talk of Brexit and the fact that another child was sent home from son's class with symptoms. Feels a bit relentless at the moment. I know this won't be life forever,it's just not possible, but I really need a bit of positive news today

chri55ie · 09/12/2020 20:08

Our local area has been asking for volunteers from the 21st dec to man vaccination centres so I was thinking they are expecting maybe approval next week?

hadenoughnegativity · 09/12/2020 20:24

I had the vaccine today. Fantastic set up. Well organised, busy but they managed the queues very well. What struck me was the happy atmosphere. Everyone was sighing with relief, cheering the staff, positivity, Hope in the air...
what also reassured me was reading last night was reading that after 7 days after the first Pfizer dose, on the trial the group that we're vaccinated achieved immunity. The second dose was used to reinforce the immunity, and important for those who are naturally or medically immune compromised.
Roll on this time next week!!!

Ps that doesn't mean we can be complacent. The virus is still out there and we probably can still transmit. But it's the best feeling ever!

hadenoughnegativity · 09/12/2020 20:25

Oh! And no symptoms after. I haven't sprouted an extra limb or turned into a Bill Gates loving robot- yet! 😉

hadenoughnegativity · 09/12/2020 20:26

Meant to post the graph

That’s amazing hadenough you must feel great.

I’m speaking as someone literally at the bottom of my country’s very comprehensive list (I’m in Ireland) so I’m a teeny bit jealous.

Ah congratulations HadEnough

I took dc for a flu jab a few weeks ago and I was imagining the adult version Covid version

I can imagine it would feel very upbeat. I’m glad it was all good. Do they make it very easy to remember next dose? I get concerned people won’t turn up!

Mumof3andlovingit · 09/12/2020 22:41

Was so excited about the vaccines coming, I’m still happy about the fab news and can’t wait for news on the Oxford vaccine, however feel a bit deflated as apparently healthy under 50s most probably won’t even be getting the vaccine. Does anyone on this thread know if this is true, I don’t really trust the other threads?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 09/12/2020 22:48

Its not true. There’s lots of nonsense being talked on other threads.
They don’t have a plan yet. Van Tam has talked very clearly about the fact that when we know more about how the vaccine behaves in the community (impact on spread and other things) they will be in a position to make sensible decisions about priority orders. He was asked if occupation would be taken into account and he said that would definitely be on the table to be discussed.
Bear in mind that if all the vaccines we have ordered are approved and supplied we will have enough for everyone several times over.

I enjoyed this article from The New Statesman!

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 10/12/2020 14:54

At the Scottish briefing today it was announced that more than 5000 people have been vaccinated this week. Isn't that great?

TeaInTheGarden · 10/12/2020 15:18

Brilliant article @MarcelineMissouri thank you!

And yes 5000 vaccinations is awesome @IncludeWomenInTheSequel

  • I want them to publish these stats on a daily basis!!
chri55ie · 10/12/2020 15:18

Wow and that’s only in 2-3 days!

DontWalkPastTheCastle · 10/12/2020 15:54

I think NS said it would be announced weekly @TeaInTheGarden

I'd like it be daily too, to give the positive along with the negatives.

FuzzyPuffling · 10/12/2020 16:03

I'm feeling sad about the vaccine programme today. DH is CEV but down in priority 4 means he won't get the vaccine for probably months. We've been living such an unnatural and lonely life for over 9 months now. I'm Cat 6 and because of the unknowns about transmission neither if us will be going out until we've both been vaccinated...an d Pfizer won't get down as far as me. It's taking a massive toll on our mental health.

I would so love to hear some positive news about Oxford/AZ, but the longer time goes on, the more doubts are in my mind about efficacy and/or the robustness of the trial. If they agree it for the full dose x 2 are they missing a trick? If the 0.5/full dose only works in the under 55s with robust immune systems then it's not good is it? 62% may be good if you're not at risk, but not for high risk people who may not have such a good immune response in the first place. Need some good news!

On the good side, infections in our county have fallen below 20 per 100,000K for the first time for ages.

IEatSoap · 10/12/2020 16:17

FuzzyPuffling

I don't know where you are getting your info, but I am in Cat 6 and according the Gov website, we should be done in January and everyone in Phase 1 should be getting the Pfizer vaccine, when the next supplies come in during the New Year

Maybe I have understood it all wrongGrin

FuzzyPuffling · 10/12/2020 16:53

Hmmmm interesting IEatSoap. I've not heard any of that. It seems very optimistic to me. (although I would love it if it was true!)

I understood we have enough Pfizer vaccs for 5m people (10m doses) in the first phase of delivery. The remaining 30m doses (15m people) are due sometime next year (?)

From the information I have seen:
The first tranche will be used up about three quarters of the way down Cat 2 (over 80s)
The remaining 30m doses would take us to covering Cat 7 (over 60s) but I have not seen a timescale for this. January seems far too early, when we hear about "supply chain delays" (in raw materials, not Brexit stuff).

That is great to hear. I wonder what England is
MarshaBradyo · 10/12/2020 17:09

Listening to briefing

So good for it to be about vaccinations!

Oh my days

TeaInTheGarden · 10/12/2020 23:22

Anyone heard anything about Oxford??
I’m getting impatient!

MarshaBradyo · 12/12/2020 08:34

FDA approves Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus vaccine for emergency use in US

Another thing that the pessimistic on mn posted a lot about that didn’t come to pass.
