Tweet from Robert Peston about how immunity starts to develop from the first dose

@virucidalmaniac

I have been keeping track, I think tomorrow is the day we would hear anything if they keep to the same timescaleGrin
Eek!
chri55ie · 08/12/2020 18:35

Oxford must be soon surely?! I am assuming it will be announced around 7am...so keep checking my phone every am!

TeaInTheGarden · 08/12/2020 18:47

I get a Reuters notification with any big news story so wake up and read it with blurry eyes 😆

tobee · 08/12/2020 19:58

I used to get BBC News notifications but had to turn off the noise alert as it was the news drumroll thing and terrified me awake at all hours! GrinGrin

chri55ie · 09/12/2020 07:37

Doesn’t look like it’s today!

virucidalmaniac · 09/12/2020 09:23

could be later on, I will keep checking Grin

Sometimes press releases/announcements are timed for midday. The first two vaccine ones were

wildbarnet · 09/12/2020 10:11

We need Oxford apparently two bad reactions to the Pfizer one but anyone with allergies to medicine can't take

cathyandclare · 09/12/2020 10:21

It's people with significant allergies. Two NHS workers with significant allergies reacted but are recovering well.

virucidalmaniac · 09/12/2020 10:56

so they will not be able to have their 2nd dose then? Wonder if they could have the Oxford?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 09/12/2020 11:07

You know there’s a trial being set up on mix and match vaccines? I would think it’s quite likely they can have another sort for the second dose given that evidently the principle is fine. Just need something else to be approved in time.
tootyfruitypickle · 09/12/2020 11:19

My dsis has severe IBS, so she’s gutted she won’t be able to have this . Let’s hope the Oxford one is better . With her , second exposure is worse than the first .

tootyfruitypickle · 09/12/2020 11:20

Advice is anyone with history of severe allergies to food or medicines which will rule out a huge number of people. Sorry, that’s not good news - but Oxford is different science so I’m hopeful!

cathyandclare · 09/12/2020 11:23

I don't think IBS counts as a significant allergy. It's more immune mediated sensitivities that they're talking about.

cathyandclare · 09/12/2020 11:27

I don't want to underplay the impact of IBS, just that the warning is for people who have suffered anaphylactic type reactions and carry epi pens, which is not usually the case in IBS.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 09/12/2020 11:30

Is it irritatingly Pollyannaish of me to say that the good news is that they picked up on this on the very first day of vaccination? Lots of allergies go unrecognised or unacknowledged for much longer.

cathyandclare · 09/12/2020 11:34

No it's absolutely in the spirit of the thread!

wildbarnet · 09/12/2020 11:44

When are Oxford results ? I am so low today I know everyone else is

tootyfruitypickle · 09/12/2020 11:51

I think anyone will severe IBS will be wary. There is so little known about IBS- it’s not allergies no, but the reactions weren’t analphaytic either - the odds of some sort of reaction must be high. Knowing what I do about her condition and it’s impacts, if it were me I definitely wouldn’t risk it. Not all IBS is extreme though so it’s personal choice with that condition based on how you know you respond to things.

tootyfruitypickle · 09/12/2020 11:52

I agree it’s really good it was publicised too - should build trust about openess.

littleowl1 · 09/12/2020 13:09

One thing I have been really reassured by over recent weeks is the increasing number of councils with falling cases week over week. Not sure why this isn't been reported in the news??

I run www.covidmessenger.com so I compile the daily cases data every day.

It has been remarkable to watch the trend reverse - three weeks ago the majority of councils in England (75%) had rising cases. Now the majority of councils (60%) have falling cases week-over-week.

That's quite something in just 3 weeks.

If you need cheering up, you can see it really easily on the dashboard on the homepage www.covidmessenger.com.

Sort the table by: "Is the case rate rising or falling?"

There are so many green arrows! ie falling cases!

This was not the case a few weeks ago! And a few weeks prior to that again it was looking truly dire.

So things are looking up, even if it's hard to tell from the mainstream media sometimes!

Mumof3andlovingit · 09/12/2020 13:11

I have IBS and have no allergies at all.

tobee · 09/12/2020 17:08

Is it the IBS that's the problem or medication taken for it with regard to the vaccine?

FourTeaFallOut · 09/12/2020 17:17

I've looked on covid messenger every single day these last couple of weeks to watch the infection rate tumble (and then announce it to DH like I did all the hard work). Thanks littleowl1 Flowers
