@pearlypidge - I’d love for March to be a bit more positive. My DD had a rubbish 15th birthday in late March, it would be fab if she could see a few friends for her 16th birthday 🤞🤞

'he can't wait back to get us living by personal responsibility'
Lol, I bet he can't wait, Boris too. This must be any politician's worst nightmare (or one of them).

First vaccine given !!

sashagabadon · 08/12/2020 07:44

Yay!

MarshaBradyo · 08/12/2020 07:47

Brilliant news re first vaccine

sashagabadon · 08/12/2020 08:28

Just heard on radio 4 second person to be vaccinated in a London hospital somewhere is a man called William Shakespeare. 😁
Matt Hancock also sounding emotional. Must be huge relief for him, the logistics and complexities of what has been involved in getting good old William vaccinated is massive and those that dismiss it all have no idea what they are dismissing.

hadenoughnegativity · 08/12/2020 09:17

I'm getting vaccine tomorrow, and most of my team are as well. ( Scotland)
We are primary care in an at risk group. Very exciting. The telephone line went live at the weekend, and it has all gone crazy. Constantly redialling! Had to call about thirty times before I got through. Have appointment for second injection in early January. It's one huge sigh of relief.
We can't be complacent and will continue to work with increased PPE and social distancing where possible.
I am so grateful for the hard work so far of the scientific community, and for my health board and the local occupational health workers who have managed to pull this off so far.

Great news Hadenough

I’m also really pleased for MH. Has been hellish

And agree he’s right to be proud of the teams he works with. How fast this has been, still diligent, such an effort by everyone

tobee · 08/12/2020 09:40

Great to hear @hadenoughnegativity ! Smile

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 08/12/2020 09:52

I am a little disappointed William Shakespeare wasn’t the first. The potential for confusing future schoolchildren would have been fabulous. (‘No, Shakespeare was definitely in the reign of the second Queen Elizabeth not the first, because I read that he was the first person to get the covid 19 vaccine and that was 2020.’)

newtothenet · 08/12/2020 10:14

@hadenoughnegativity I'm so excited for you! I'm way down the list but my husband is ECV and I can't wait for him to have it. Please come back and let us know how you got on!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 08/12/2020 12:01

Mix and match vaccines to be trialled

This is amazing because it must mean they think they might be able to get the effectiveness even higher than 95%!

The Lancet says Oxford Vaccine is safe and effective:-

You beat me tobee! The first peer-reviewed paper on Phase 3 trials.

virucidalmaniac · 08/12/2020 16:17

come on Regulators! I feel news could be imminentGrin

MarshaBradyo · 08/12/2020 16:19

Ah yes! Hopefully soon

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 08/12/2020 16:19

Yes, that one got my hopes up when it popped up as breaking news because I thought the MHRA must have approved it but sadly it was just the research being properly published!
Still good to have the information out there though.

TheChineseChicken · 08/12/2020 16:27

Can anyone remember what the turn around time was for the Pfizer vaccine with the MHRA?

virucidalmaniac · 08/12/2020 16:31

I have been keeping track, I think tomorrow is the day we would hear anything if they keep to the same timescaleGrin

virucidalmaniac · 08/12/2020 16:32

not that I am obsessed or anything, oh noWink

Earlgrey666 · 08/12/2020 16:33

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel I got my hopes up too! it's still promising though, I really hope an announcement of approval will be made soon.
Due to the production, number of doses bought, lower cost and easier storage requirements, I really feel that the Oxford vaccine can make a big difference.

tobee · 08/12/2020 16:33

Come on! Come on! Grin

Moderna must be approved or not soon! Even if we don't get it for a while, it's good to have as many as possible.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 08/12/2020 16:40

Yy.
Also because it’s our home grown one I am more confident we will actually get the doses when we need them.
I am kind of expecting they might need a little bit longer on this one because of the issues over the doses though.

TeaInTheGarden · 08/12/2020 16:42

Came on to post the lancet article news lol!

Does anyone else feel like they are holding their breath waiting for this oxford vaccine to be approved..?!
I don’t know how much more I can take!!

Also, am I the only one regularly with muttering/chanting “COME ON OXFORD!!”
