Looks pretty rural to me. I can walk for 30min in any direction and this is the kind of view I have

Essex is definitely rural, just because it doesn't have mountains doesn't mean it's not.

It's mostly arable farmland, like the Dengie and in the north of the county especially.

You just need to look at Google maps to see how much of essex is fields!

Outside of the A13 corridor - southend, basildon and thurrock - its fairly open farmland or marshland

@Whatever9999 that looks gorgeous. People who visited when I moved here from London were shocked at the landscape, I think people just expect it all to be like Harlow Hmm

The80sweregreat · 17/10/2020 09:42

Some of it might be rural ( not the bit that comes close to 'East London' isn't!) but we are still tier 2 and Southend and Thurrock are not!
Which is just bonkers.

What makes me seeth with anger is the line we've been given, that the move would have been imposed whether we like it or not in 2 or 3 weeks. And that going early means exiting early. Well the last point is blatantly bullshit--any area placed in local restrictions are still in them MONTHS later.

So in reality they've just added another 2 or 3 weeks onto our misery, when actual risks are low, numbers are low and it feels illogical.

Mike Gogerty says it will save lives. Banning alcohol would save lives too. I don't see anyone suggesting that. You can't ban death unfortunately.

I love walking along the Blackwater navigation. Hoping to do Papermill all the way to Heybridge at some point

Another one on the Herts/Essex border here. I think the tier change is ludicrous - DS can't see his school friends or girlfriend who are all meeting up because they live a couple of miles away over the border. I just can't justify him not meeting up with them, it's nonsense!

Quite a few on the Essex/Herts border here ;)

Have to agree, the Essex countryside and villages are beautiful.

When I used to teach I taught at an absolutely brilliant high school on the herts/Essex border. A boys school. 🤫 So I do feel an affinity for that area.

Essex Covid: The Essex town in a Tier 2 lockdown despite being in lowest 5% for infection rates
The infection rate for every Essex town has been revealed according to the latest government data.
One Essex town sits in the bottom five percent of English local authorities for infection rates - but remains under Tier Two restrcitions.

Braintree currently sits in the bottom 20 local authorities for infection rates in the whole of the country.

The data released by the government shows the rolling seven-day rate of new cases of Covid-19 in every local authority area in England.

The figures, which look at the seven days up to October 23, are based on tests carried out in laboratories and in the wider community.

While Blackburn with Darwen has the highest rate in England, with 1,176 new cases recorded in seven days, Braintree has only recorded 78 cases in the same period.

Braintree's infection rate has been recorded as 51.1 cases per 100,000, making it one of the towns with the lowest infection rates across England.

On the other end of the spectrum, the local authority of Thurrock has recorded the highest number of new cases in the county over the same seven days, with 287 people testing positive - the equivalent of 164.6 cases per 100,000 people.

Brentwood just tips Thurrock in terms of the highest rate of infection with 170.1 cases of coronavirus every 100,000 people.

While areas like Thurrock remain in Tier One, Braintree is under Tier Two restrictions as it sits in the Essex County Council region

The list of cases and infection rates for every Essex town are listed below.

From left to right, it reads the name of local authority, the rate of new cases in the seven days to October 23, number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to October 23, the rate of new cases in the seven days to October 16 and number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to October 16.

Braintree - 51.1 (78), 56.4 (86)

Brentwood - 170.1 (131), 92.2 (71)

Basildon - 148.5 (278), 106.3 (199)

David Finch is trying to claim ECC had no idea that they would get financial support for going into tier 2 Hmm

Either he is lying, or incompetent and there was not even the most basic impact assessment made.

Not good either way really, is it?

Report
IrkedEssex · 28/10/2020 18:22

@Pertella - no, it is indeed not good either way. Also, ECC says it will be reviewing every 4 weeks when the law actually states that Matt Hancock must review every 2 weeks.

Report
MercyBooth · 02/11/2020 02:05

No wonder there was no review. They knew they were going to do this second lockdown
