Great @greenplum. I wasn’t expecting to get offered in the normal way before the summer so will def stay in. As far as I can tell from all the different vaccines it’s the best one anyway!!!

It is the best! Always thought so. I'm going in on Thursday. Can't wait!

It's so nice being able to get excited about something positive. It's still a pretty grim picture out there, so this is a good distraction.

Slightly annoying news somebody on another thread thinks that the first novavax to be made in the UK will actually be exported to the US. Seems weird as surely novavax being American would have a manufacturer in the US? Although I didn’t think that we would have “exclusive” right to the stuff made in the Uk. Many countries have zero manufacturing capability after all.

The novovax company has partnered with quite a few manufacturers - U.K., India, Czech Republic, US, and Germany (that I can remember). What goes where, when, may depend on contractual details and when the various facilities get up and running.

I am due to go for my next appointment 11th Feb but I have not heard anything about the crossover trial. I will ask to be unblinded because I am 67 so I should be called get my vaccine in the next few weeks in the normal manner. If I have had the placebo I would prefer not to wait another month or more. If I have had the Novavax vaccine then I am happy to continue to go for the antibody tests. Personally I think that it is totally wrong to change what we signed up for at this point.

Potter53 · 02/02/2021 18:09

Am I alone in having had a reaction to the second jab ?

My arm was red and painful during the night following the jab and I was shivering and could not get warm to the point where I stole the duvet from our spare bed so that I had 2 15 tog quilts.

GreenPlum · 02/02/2021 18:28

Extending in to the crossover will be completely optional.

This is a rapidly changing situation so it's not really surprising things change.

You'll be under no obligation to do anything different.

mollypuss1 · 02/02/2021 18:38

They’re not changing what we signed up for. I signed up for a 12 (ish) month trial and committed to the schedule of appointments within that timescale. That hasn’t changed. The only thing changing is that now everyone on the trial has the option of getting the vaccine. This is optional. You do not have to agree. For someone like me who is under 50 with no underlying health issues this is brilliant as I can now get a vaccine much sooner whilst still doing my bit for the scientific research being undertaken. This is a win win and I can see nothing wrong with it as it, like everything in this trial, is 100% voluntary.

MrsHamlet · 02/02/2021 18:45

I had a very strange reaction to the second one... I told the doctor I was sure it was the placebo because I was clearly being daft!

BG2015 · 02/02/2021 19:35

I had a strong reaction to the second jab. Headache, shivery, achy muscles - lasted 24 hours and then I felt fine!

Anatomical · 02/02/2021 19:36

I had a reaction to the second jab too - very painful arm that I couldn't lift above shoulder height and achy legs. I'm fairly confident it was a reaction to the vaccine but I'm happy to take two extra jabs in case it wasn't and to hopefully contribute some more useful data.

JPLeeds · 02/02/2021 20:03

I work up in the middle of the night with a fever/shivers after the second injection. My temperature went up 2c from when it was taken on the morning of the vaccination. They were dissapointed on my 35 day appointment that I hadn't told avout this but I did record it on the app.

andadietcoke · 02/02/2021 21:10

My arm was agony on the night of the vaccination but she hit a nerve so wasn't sure if that was why. Temperature had gone up in the day. Had achey legs too, and neck / shoulder pain.

@Potter53 when you get called for a vaccine then you contact for unblinding - in your case you can't lose - you either get it through Novavax or you get one of the other ones, whichever is first. I don't think it's changing what we signed up for. Or if it is, it's for the better - we signed up knowing 50% of us would get the active vaccine. Now it's 100%.

GreenPlum · 04/02/2021 14:55

I'm afraid I don't have much to report after my follow up in Leeds.

The woman who took my blood didn't know anything so I emailed the research team.

They replied straight away saying they'd be in touch when they get 'official information communicated by Novavax'.

In the meantime I figured out how to by shares! Quite exciting, I just wish I'd done it a year ago!

MrsHamlet · 04/02/2021 18:31

Are they still really expensive, Greenplum

GreenPlum · 04/02/2021 18:44

Yep! I bought at $260. I bought two! I have shares! It's a rollercoaster! I have fluctuated during the last few days between losing £40 and gaining £5 many, many times! (See pic!) That's just today!
Imagine if I had 2000 shares! My nerves couldn't take it! 😂

novavax vaccine trial - anyone else?
MrsHamlet · 04/02/2021 20:35

My advisor recommended buying £2000 worth. My attitude to risk can't take it!

Frazzled2207 · 04/02/2021 21:04

@GreenPlum Disappointing that they didn’t tell you anything
@andadietcoke fingers crossed for us tomorrow. I really hope they don’t now change their mind on the crossover plan.

OP posts:
GreenPlum · 04/02/2021 22:10

I figured £500 was the most I could afford to lose. It's just fun to add a different element to my desire for Novavax to succeed.

ramblingsonthego · 05/02/2021 07:32

I am not back till March, but I really hope they do give us all the vaccine. I really want Novavax over all the other vaccines after being on the trial.

andadietcoke · 05/02/2021 10:14

I'm here now. Everyone has been told they have to see the lead doctor 'due to protocol changes' and we're already 15 mins past my appointment time. Might be seeing you after all @Frazzled2207

Frazzled2207 · 05/02/2021 10:19

Oooh @andadietcoke
I’m very casual today in a magenta weird fish hoody

OP posts:
Daftapath · 05/02/2021 10:23

Ooh! I hope you get some concrete information.

andadietcoke · 05/02/2021 11:10

Just leaving. Had to say whether we wanted to take part in the crossover and give preferred times - starting in March.

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 05/02/2021 11:16

Thanks Diet Coke. Did they say it was UK wide?
