Have just had the call and am going tomorrow. Very excited. Anyone else doing this?

Some people have explained it on Twitter

Crossover means everyone having 4 jabs, 2 placebo and 2 vaccine.

and

In order you can carry on with trial all volunteers will go back in for two more injections. If you got placebo first time you will receive vaccine and vice versa. You will still be blinded.

No clarity on Twitter yet about whether it's the whole trial, or just Bradford but I think it's likely to be everyone on the trial in the UK.

AVictoryProduct · 01/02/2021 11:56

@MrsHamlet

I'm a bit confused by the people on Twitter worrying about this. Surely it can only be a good thing? Or am I being really thick??
I agree! It sounds ace to me.
Frazzled2207 · 01/02/2021 12:02

i'm happy too, only minor concerns is presumably more appointments/time needed than we have agreed to, i can see that not working out for everyone - wonder what happens with those

Having had a talk from Jon this morning I really think this the best outcome. It makes very little difference tbh except we know will definitely get a vaccine - you just won't know in what order you got it!

Yorkie127 · 01/02/2021 12:10

JW has confirmed that all sites will now follow this model.

GreenPlum · 01/02/2021 12:11

John Wright just confirmed on Twitter that it's across all sites.

I'm pleased but of course, people that don't want to, won't have to.

John tweeted in response to a question that participants would need to consider timing, so if you’re offered a vaccine appointment from NHS in the next couple of weeks you would need to decide whether to unblind and take that, or stay blind knowing that you’re getting a jab from Novavax shortly 2 weeks to approval then 3-4 weeks to get everyone back in). That’s the gamble. I’m going to stay with Novavax (group 8 so possibly will get my invite from NHS in the next six weeks).

Frazzled2207 · 01/02/2021 12:29

I can also see if you are fairly sure if you had the real thing first time, you wouldn’t be delighted about being stabbed again

Brilliant. I'm 42 and healthy so I wasn't getting one any time soon!!!

Frazzled2207 · 01/02/2021 12:40

@MrsHamlet
My thoughts exactly, also 42

AVictoryProduct · 01/02/2021 12:41

Another 42 year old here!

GreenPlum · 01/02/2021 12:52

I'm in group 6 so it may be late spring. My heart is with Novavax!

Frazzled2207 · 01/02/2021 13:03

another reason to now stick with this is there doesn't seem to be any guarantee that any of us otherwise would get two shots of the same stuff if we waited. This way presumably we definitely will (or will have done already).

OP posts:
GreenPlum · 01/02/2021 13:13

We'll also get the second shot in 21 days not 12 weeks.

Daftapath · 01/02/2021 13:20

Wow. This is brilliant. I'm very happy to have more appointments but I can see how it may be difficult for some.

I would also rather wait for Novavax vaccine rather than another one offered earlier. I can stay home and don't have to expose myself overly as I get home deliveries. I think it's unlikely I would get offered an NHS vaccine before the trial vaccine though.

Frazzled2207 · 01/02/2021 13:22

yep!!!!! im delighted as will be my dm. She has been fretting herself about geting a jab (she is now booked in for thursday) and has already been fretting about me having to wait - not for much longer it would seem!

Could someone link to John Wright on Twitter please?

Frazzled2207 · 01/02/2021 13:26

told husband he was like (joking) 'right once you have it you'll be the designated supermarket shopper then'. I don't mind at all. I usually am anyway (we both work mostly at home so difficult to know where else we could catch it other than via the kids at school, once they're back)

We're not taking up the space of anyone more in need though are we. I mean technically we are but anyone could have signed up to take part we just happened to be picked,

Linked John Wright above.

Looks like you won't be moving to Bradford after all!

cinnamonwhirl · 01/02/2021 13:45

My husband took part in Novivax trials. He hasn't heard about this. I just told him and he says not to believe anything on social media. I presume the participants will be informed about this ?

GreenPlum · 01/02/2021 13:51

He's right to be cautious!

This has come from Dr John Wright on his own Twitter page.

It was only news today so each centre will inform its participants in due course, either by email, or when we go for our next appointment.

The US is already public with doing the crossover trial. It's not totally out of the blue.

GreenPlum · 01/02/2021 13:53

Sorry, there were two links but too close together.
