Indeed very promising even though I can’t abide the daily fail!

I know! I did look for another link but it seems novavax spoke directly to the mail in the US. Damn it!

Very interesting, thanks for sharing.

Isn't it funny, with all this chat about the Oxford vaccine's efficacy, it genuinely hadn't occurred to me before that Novavax might not be 'very' effective. In my head it was binary - have the placebo and still be at risk from COVID, have the active vaccine and be safe from COVID. My naivety scares me sometimes!!

Me too. Surely Novavax will be 100% effective!

Did you read this from Adrian Chiles? He is a volunteer for Novavax and says he has become sniffy about other vaccines!

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/nov/18/ive-joined-a-covid-vaccine-trial-and-its-making-me-surprisingly-competitive

"Quite intoxicated by my selfless bravery in this act of public service, I made my way to the Chelsea and Westminster hospital at the appointed time. I must say that, on my arrival, I felt a little deflated at the lack of ceremony. I was rather expecting a welcoming committee of a pharma company executive, a hospital director and a doctor or two. But all I got, before being led on to a ward, was a request for photo ID and more forms to fill in."

GreenPlum · 23/11/2020 13:56

Today I had an email from the research team. Thought I'd share with these two pics as it answers some questions about us having an available vaccine.

They're obviously prioritizing our well which is as it should be and I won't feel guilty about asking to unblind.

@Seasiderabbit I'm a little bit competitive at the best of times...I'm with Adrian. Novavax will be the saviour Grin

CardinalCat · 23/11/2020 15:10

@GreenPlum, I'm a little in two minds. I'll feel so sorry for Novavax if they can't get this highly promising vaccine to market because so many people drop out of their trial. I'm almost certain I got the placebo, so I will very much want 'a' vaccine if I haven't already had one, and I really do feel the dilemma. I'm really not sure what I'd do (and I'm just hoping that by the time I do become eligible for a vaccine, it will be close to the point where they have the data they need and it won't matter so much.) I may decide to ask to be unblinded, but I will definitely feel guilty (I'm not saying you should! But I know how my mind works and I know I'll feel terrible, to the point that I may just stick with the trial.) I'm just trying not to think about it TOO much as I suspect there will be a lot of water under the bridge by the time Spring rolls around and I'm likely to be eligible.

GreenPlum · 23/11/2020 15:17

I know. I feel the same way. But this document says "if you had a placebo, you will be advised to have the approved vaccine." They want to do what's best for you.

Daftapath · 23/11/2020 16:49

Adrian Chiles lives around the corner from me Grin

Off for my second appointment tomorrow. I shall be studying the syringe and must remember to ask about the ruler and thermometer I didn't get!

Torvean32 · 23/11/2020 17:20

I read an article in the US press about Novovaxx. They've asked if they can release their documentation over a period of time, so if found safe in current stage 3 phase they could try to get it approved. Then when final studies come in from the US and Mexico the last evidence could be submitted. I know FDA have given Novovaxx extra money to get the studies done and to get the safest early release.

I'm like Adrian Chile's, anyone who mentions Pfizer or Oxford...... I want to be one of the first bearers of the super vaccine Grin

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 23/11/2020 17:26

Team Novavax here! They’re a little company doing cutting edge stuff and I’d love to play a small part in them getting in amongst the big boys Grin.

Me too :) I'm certain ours is superior!!

andadietcoke · 23/11/2020 19:33

Novavax is an ace story too - they were nearly kicked off the Nasdaq because they lost so much money - three failed vaccines over a short period of time. They closed their plants and cut down to a skeleton staff at the beginning of the year. Now their share price is spectacular.

AliJo2 · 23/11/2020 19:46

I had my first appointment today, it was their first day of running the trial (Ipswich) and had a few teething problems with IT but were all lovely. I was delayed because my BP was high initially but it came down eventually and I finally left four hours later!

Daftapath · 23/11/2020 19:46

I wonder who will play us all when they make a film of the story? I would be disappointed if I am not played by Helen Mirren or Emma Thompson!

MrsHamlet · 23/11/2020 19:58

My students tell me I remind them of Sarah Millican so I'll take her, plesse

I think they've changed the protocol on high BP. Mine is always high but I was early on so got away with it.

This is such a great thread, everyone so positive, not like some of the doom and gloom on other threads...

I love the Adrian Chiles article, so true.

@Daftapath - someone with poor eyesight once told me I looked a little bit like Gillian Anderson (god I wish) so it will have to be her Wink. So far she doesn't have many lines or much to do....Grin

After feeling a bit rubbish on Saturday after my second jab I felt absolutely fine yesterday and went for a run etc... So I reckon it's still 50/50 for vaccine/placebo. It reminds me of my second pregnancy when I would regularly change my mind about whether I was having a boy or girl Grin

andadietcoke · 23/11/2020 21:13

Just gone down a Twitter rabbit hole. Novavax's stock has jumped up today in anticipation of a results announcement - rumoured to be 99% effective with almost zero side effects.

shesellsseashells99 · 23/11/2020 21:21

When do you get told if you have had the placebo or the real thing?

Well done everyone!!

GreenPlum · 23/11/2020 21:21

Has any one bought shares or planning to buy shares? 😆 How does one buy shares?

GreenPlum · 23/11/2020 21:25

At the end of the study. Oct/Nov 2021.

But if you look at the pics a few posts back, we can find out what we had if we are eligible for an alternative vaccine before this one is approved. (Though it has to be said, we can leave the study at any point.)

I agree! It's lovely and positive and constructive. I feels great to be doing something.

I bet you are bursting to know whether you have the vaccine or placebo. I felt the same about my second pregnancy. And the same with the two week wait.

You person with poor eyesight sounds like a good person to know.

WHERE WHERE WHERE did you find this? I've just been to look but couldn't find the hole. Where did you start digging? Give me a clue...
