Have just had the call and am going tomorrow. Very excited. Anyone else doing this?

So let’s say our vaccine (I feel we can call it ours because Prof Saralyan said we are a family) turns out to be the best. We get offered another vaccine early next year because we’re in an eligible group. If we unblind, are we then out of the trial even if we decide not to take the inferior jab? Do we even get a choice of which one we have? I want this one, not one of the others.

GreenPlum · 23/11/2020 22:17

I don't think each patient will get to chose. It will be the NHS trust, or GP practice. I think they'll have a role in managing the roll out even though it's going to take an army - quite literally!, to do it.

In some cases, it could be that vaccines are selected for different age groups for example, as we've seen with the flu jab over the last couple of years.

CardinalCat · 23/11/2020 22:19

There was some fake news doing the rounds on Twitter earlier about a takeover of novavax which may have spiked the stock price. The news was debunked fairly swiftly (although you'd expect the stock price to recover downwards if this was what caused the spike!) Its such an anxious wait for news!

Frazzled2207 · 23/11/2020 22:34

@andadietcoke
Wow that would be amazing but surprising.
Unlike the front runners like Pfizer and AZ our phase 3 trials started a lot later, I think. I was not expecting any real news before feb at the earliest.

I definitely want this one if given a choice (which I doubt). However would happily also have the Oxford one being home grown and all that. I suspect it will be the most vulnerable or hospital staff that get the Pfizer of moderna, which is fine by me. Of course I could have already had the novavax but am fairly confident I had the placebo.

@Frazzled2207 I was confused too - it specifically said there was two months of data though as it started in September - I'm sure the trial started in the US around the same time, if not a tiny bit earlier. But if one of the success factors is antibodies then they'll be able to report on that fairly soon.

YY to the fake takeover. Someone also posted pictures of a fake lip filler adverse event and said it was down to Novavax Shock

Day 35 for me today so off to have bloods taken.

Feels naughty going out in lockdown 2, but I'm on a mission to save humankind!

NotMrsTumble · 24/11/2020 08:50

👋Off to get my second dose of vaccine /placebo tomorrow. Glad to have found you all. 💉

GreenPlum · 24/11/2020 09:00

Fantastic, NotMrsTumble 👏👏👏

andadietcoke · 24/11/2020 09:09

Just had my visit 4 changed from 26/2 to 5/2 - may be my tendency towards conspiracy theories but I wonder if they want as much data as possible for their February reporting.

Frazzled2207 · 24/11/2020 09:13

@andadietcoke
Oh shall expect contact then. I might ask why.

Heehee. It was just an email saying the clinic dates had changed, and giving me a new time so yes, assume you'll be contacted too.

Daftapath · 24/11/2020 13:15

Just back from visit two. Second jab was in a syringe with yellow tape as someone described upthread. No bloods taken, just temp, pregnancy test, heart rate/bp - which was high as usual, then came down enough that they didn't all jump around this time! Protocols have changed and they are including a wider group for the trial - immunosuppressed and excluding those requiring daily O2, so more forms to sign.

Injection really hurt after about 5 mins for about 10mins. Now feels fine! The doctor said that she thought the vaccine was amazing, very few side effects although fractionally more after the second injection and they had excellent results. She seemed very excited about it.

We were given a sheet "Information For Participants In Light Of News About Pfizer/Biontech Covid-19 Vaccine" just explaining what we already know. That we can come out of the trail if offered a vaccine but encouraging us to stay in until such time.

BG2015 · 24/11/2020 16:48

Daftpath that's interesting about the second dose having more side effects as that was definitely me.

24 hours after the 2nd injection and I was shivery and cold, I had a headache and my arm continued to hurt for 4-5 days afterwards.

I go next Wednesday for my third appointment

Daftapath · 24/11/2020 17:50

@BG2015 my arm feels heavy and achey now. Bizarrely, the site of the first injection (in the other arm) was stinging earlier too! I'm sure it's just placebo effect Grin

Woventabby · 24/11/2020 18:36

@Daftapath I also had the same bizarre experience! After the second injection, the injection site was a bit sore, but all of a sudden the site of the first injection site started hurting. Actually the old injection site was much more painful than the recent injection site. The pain was gone about 48 hours later, but I thought I was going mad!

Daftapath · 24/11/2020 18:51

@Woventabby glad it's not me going mad then! Well, not going mad about this anyway ConfusedGrin

Torvean32 · 24/11/2020 19:52

The US 3rd stage trials were delayed for whatever reason , and start at the end of this month along with a study in Mexico i believe.

I think Novovax wanted to release the results on the 3rd stage studies that had been completed. Then it could have been authorised. They would then release the other results from the US/Mexico study.
Part of the argument is they're a much smaller pharmaceutucal company, so it's taken them longer.

I've got my appt for blood test this week.

Vargas · 24/11/2020 22:53

@Woventabby and @Daftapath - I completely forgot until I saw your posts that I had the same experience, my other arm started to sting right near the injection site, probably a few hours after I had the second jab. It didn't last long but how bizarre!

Day 35 is booked in, it seems to be going so fast...

Woventabby · 24/11/2020 23:06

Ha! There must be a medical explanation for this bizarre experience. Or a psychological explanation if it is a placebo!

andadietcoke · 25/11/2020 07:48

I had it too! I don't think it lasted long but long enough for me to notice and think it was a bit odd!

BG2015 · 25/11/2020 18:00

It happens with toothache doesn't it? Other teeth hurt as well as the actual real tooth. Not sure if it's the same?

NotMrsTumble · 27/11/2020 09:36

Definitely more symptoms from second jab than first. Swelling at site is bigger, arm feels heavy and is sore to move rather than just tender to touch. Definitely felt achy and tired yesterday (jab+24hrs) too. I figure I either have had the vaccine or am extremely suggestible and am experiencing and very strong placebo effect (or possibly am actually coming down with something? Covid?!Confused)

andadietcoke · 27/11/2020 12:20

@NotMrsTumble hope it calms down soon. Mine was a lot better the day after. I also think I might be extremely suggestible!

Daftapath · 27/11/2020 13:30

Three days on, my injection arm (2nd) is still quite achey. The large, hot bump has receded though. It is still quite tender to touch.

First injection arm has settled considerably but I still get twinges at the injection site every now and again.

Have felt tired but I may just be tired!

Torvean32 · 27/11/2020 17:03

Was the 2nd vaccination not a higher dose, or did I imagine it?

I had side effects with muscle pain the first time. The second i had more painful mucsle ache and joint ache. I also had swelling at the injection site.

My second lot of bloods are the 14/2
