No plans for Bonfire night, other than watching other people’s fireworks.

PickAChew · 06/11/2020 07:51

Good yawning.

Someone was asking about Durham Market hall. Looks like it's just open the rest of this week to sell off fresh food then that's it until December.

It's a bit lockdown lite as far as "essential" shops go. All the big chains open, most of the small independent shops closed or takeaway only. Wonder who contributes to Tory party finances more 😏🤔

Aztectrousers · 06/11/2020 10:10

I’m not sure if shops were contributing to the spread tbh and thought their covid measures were working well.
I can understand bars having to close having witnessed the alcohol infused punters out in the streets mingling and hugging in my town. Haven’t been in one since before lockdown but dd tells me there was no social distancing going on!

Nevertheless I feel for the hospitality industry and all those who are inevitably going to lose their jobs.

PickAChew · 06/11/2020 11:00

I don't think the shops needed to shut, either.

Just finished at the arnison centre, anyhow. Dead quiet. The works is click and collect but you have to knock on the door. Next has a desk at the door. The whole ground floor ofarkses is open and they're limiting numbers. Someone has to walk up and down the escalator every time someone wants their click and collect.

MissEWeatherwax · 06/11/2020 11:17

Pleased The works open even for click and collect. I don’t agree the shops should have closed. I might visit Arnison centre later, my DD needs paper etc for college. I hope McDonald’s is still open for takeaway I really fancy a McFlurry.

PickAChew · 06/11/2020 11:20

Yep, there was already a queue at mcd's

gingercat02 · 06/11/2020 11:54

Totally agree re shops but it is sad that the little indies are shut and the Range and B&Q are deemed essential

MissEWeatherwax · 06/11/2020 12:25

I don’t think any shops should have shut. The North East figures are coming down. Tier 2 was working. Co Durham figures are dropping. All the students have probably already had/ got it. And the North East figures are normally okay.
The students caused a blip.
Asda living should have increased there space for toiletries and medicine and they could have stayed open.

PickAChew · 06/11/2020 23:56

Those last few libraries, literally got days, didn't they.

Hmm college lit up like a Christmas tree. Thinking that the things that went bump in the night last weekend might have between quite widespread.

Main road eerily quiet, though. Can tell the pubs are shut.

gingercat02 · 07/11/2020 09:56

Tweet from NTC yesterday. Numbers for North Tyneside worse this week. Our Chief Exec said the Trust is in for a tough time for the next 2-4 weeks and then hopefully the lockdown will kick in and numbers in hospital and critical care will start coming back down. MN won't let me attach the photo for some reason

Aztectrousers · 07/11/2020 11:20

That’s not good gingercat02. Are they significantly higher?
Can’t believe it’s only day 3 of lockdown!

gingercat02 · 07/11/2020 12:53

641 this week 604 last week (total cases) so not huge but still up

Dowser · 07/11/2020 13:09

I don’t think little shops should have closed, or barbers or restaurants
In fact looking at this map , numbers were already dropping by Nov 1 anyway.

Is this what’s going to happen.everytime there’s a spike, lockdown?
Depressing or what

Hate driving to durham these days
My dr was on hall Garth so went quite often but since her passing, I avoid where possible

Dowser · 07/11/2020 13:17

@gingeristhenewblack43
Ah, we went to MacArthur Glen a couple of weeks ago.
Won’t be back for a very long time
Awful

MissEWeatherwax · 07/11/2020 15:46

Good job they haven’t closed allotments, if they did my DH would be furious. And I might come to home to a house full of hens.

Someaddedsugar · 08/11/2020 15:01

Hope everyone's doing ok today!

Very quiet where we are - a couple of people came out for Remembrance Day but not many.

DS (3) went for his flu spray on Thursday and now has a fever. Out of desperation I drove along the nearest dual carriageway with him to get him to sleep at lunchtime, and after sitting outside our house for half an hour decided to risk carrying him inside - big mistake and have had hysterics for the past hour. I really want to cry right now.

I've also got a million meetings in the diary tomorrow at work (slight exaggeration!) and feeling sorry for myself as I'll now have to cancel them all. It feels like he's been ill for weeks and weeks!

IggyAce · 08/11/2020 15:54

@Someaddedsugar you have my sympathies the nasal flu vaccine used to make my ds poorly, he has asthma and would usually end up In crisis a week or so later. Due to this he has the flu jab instead and suffers no side effects.
After waking early and going for a walk at 7:30am, I’ve enjoyed been lazy for the rest of the day.

Someaddedsugar · 08/11/2020 16:07

@IggyAce I think we're going to end up in a similar situation with DS - he was the same last year too and I'm pretty sure he has mild asthma (and it runs in DP's family) but we're waiting on an appointment with our GP once he's better.

Do they have to be a certain age to switch from the spray to the jab?

A lazy Sunday sounds perfect! Especially with the current weather.

Someaddedsugar · 08/11/2020 16:10

I've just remembered it's the Fenwick's window this evening so hopefully that might cheer DS up a bit.

And as I've spotted quite a few of you on the Christmas bargains thread - what's happened to Thread 18? I can't find a link anywhere on the Christmas board! (Apologies to everyone who isn't ready for Christmas chat just yet!)

Shitfuckoh · 08/11/2020 16:12

Thread 18 hasn't been posted yet. Thread 17 filled up quickly!

I hope DS is better soon @Someaddedsugar

IggyAce · 08/11/2020 16:52

I saw the reminder about Fenwicks window, will watch with DD as it’s before Strictly.
DS was 5 when he got the flu jab but he didn’t have it at 4 because the year before it was traumatic getting him to have it. After the first one he knew what was coming and I had to pin him down and I said never again.

MissEWeatherwax · 08/11/2020 16:54

Hope your son feels better soon Someaddedsugar. I nearly forgot about Fenwicks window opening. Going to have to see if can cast to tv. I really want to go shopping to visit Hotel Chocolate, I want to try the hot chocolate. I have electric milk frothier. Was reading all about it on a Christmas thread. Plus a work colleague was raving about it.
