Haway if you're in Sunderland, of course Smile

It's a very traditional glory hole, fortunately. Just has more usable space, now.

Grin Grin Grin

I thought you had a full stack of sugared almonds there!

Oh that's not as exciting as I thought! Grin Do love a bit of storage though!

We get who gives a crap loo roll too. It really came into its own in the first lockdown.

PickAChew · 01/11/2020 21:57

Just lots and lots of soft tissues for my delicate nose.

I ordered the who gives a crap after the last lock down. Figured it was one less thing to have to think about. Not impressed with its performance when the bathroom gets steamy, mind but at least I can be sure it won't get stuck in the temperamental saniflow.

BessieSurtees · 02/11/2020 08:32

Oh I'm feeling very unsettled this morning, unusually stressed with a level of anxiety that I'm struggling to motivate myself at work. My head is full of what do I need to get done by Thursday when rationally I know there is nothing I need to do, I've been living under these conditions for months.

DH has a few issues at work which have raised their head this last week, I'm hoping they are settled today, so that is on my mind. My sister is really struggling and has been crying all weekend, she works out of the home so is not stuck in but feels like she's used all of her resilience up this year.

I keep telling myself it's ok to have a wobble sometimes we don't have to be strong all of the time.

PickAChew · 02/11/2020 09:15

Brew @bessiesurtees

Currently enjoying the absolutely blissful peace and quiet (save for the washing machine which never stops) of having ds2 out of the house. I know it will wear off as Thursday looms but hopefully ilhave plenty to keep my brain quiet and busy, over the next month or so.

MissEWeatherwax · 03/11/2020 11:07

Anyone else annoyed on the Boris press conference, they skimmed over the fact that the North East rate was coming down. Durham city rate has dropped.
Heard yesterday that our local Boyes are staying open this time. So lucky for me that means a few shops at C-LS will be staying open.
And it’s not raining today.

SabrinaTheTeenageBitch · 03/11/2020 11:47

Anyone been to any supermarkets in Durham/Sunderland area today and are they normal or manic? Ventured to Arnison Centre yesterday and there was already a massive queue at Smyths by 9:30 (i already had something on click and collect so was going anyway thankfully)

MissEWeatherwax · 03/11/2020 12:24

I’m avoiding the Arnison centre until Thursday, unless I go late say after 6pm. Smyths will have to close, which is sad so close to Christmas. Good luck. I’m only going to local Tesco.

PickAChew · 03/11/2020 12:43

Durham City Centre was busy this morning. Queues for the banks and Iceland. No queue for tesco metro.

Noticed fatface had gone, with all the other shops :( paperchase still there so I merrily stocked up on Christmas tat.

No plans to head to the arnison centre until Friday. DH needs to go sooner to pick up ds1's medication from Lloyd's, though.

MissEWeatherwax · 03/11/2020 13:05

Can’t think of that many shops in Durham city that will actually have to close. Because everything has already closed.I won’t talk about North road. There is a new refill shop in the Riverwalk (The Gates) which I quite fancy visiting. I wonder is the indoor market can stay open. I would visit more often, but the one way system is too confusing for me. Hopefully once the students are let out, they can support the shops.

FrolickingLemon · 03/11/2020 14:30

Just to say that Smyths in Wallsend is staying open for click and collect during lockdown. My friend works there and told DD's Dad last night - assuming he has this right. If that's the case, I'd expect others will be doing the same.

PickAChew · 03/11/2020 14:44

Tj Hughes had a big sign saying it was an essential shop!

I would hope the market hall can stay open. It has plenty of food stalls.

There's been surveyors with all their widgets doing stuff around the junction near our house, all day. I hope this doesn't mean there's plans to steal our footpaths to make the, admittedly useless, mini roundabout bigger.

BessieSurtees · 03/11/2020 18:17

I’m a bit confused as to what an essential shop is, it was only food last time, admittedly that was any random shop that sold food. I’m sure he said click and collect will be available so that could include Smyths.

Shitfuckoh · 03/11/2020 18:25

You'd assume any store that offers click & collect could stay open. Just limited to click & collect orders only rather than general sales too?

PickAChew · 03/11/2020 20:04

Next is open for collections and returns, only.

I'm guessing they set up a desk near the entrance and cordon off the rest of the store.

Someaddedsugar · 04/11/2020 08:49

According to the Smyths website they'll be open for click and collect throughout.

It all feels really sad, especially when walking around Durham and everywhere's closed. I really hope the smaller independents can survive this.

I went to the office first thing today to pick up some printing and the Arnison Centre was already looking busy (that was at 8ish). Quite pleased we do our shopping on a Friday so hopefully won't have to queue too long on Friday.

Hope everyone's ok today!

MissEWeatherwax · 04/11/2020 12:28

Re Arnison centre probably people having a last browse, and buy I don’t blame them. I can’t be bothered to queue in the cold, but if I have too I will. I have to go The works today to stock up as my DD is doing A level art.
I hope we have some shops left at the end of this.

PickAChew · 04/11/2020 12:39

Aye, the arnison centre is slowly becoming as gappy as the city centre, though one of those gaps is where majestic was.

BessieSurtees · 04/11/2020 19:55

I’ve just done a last minute visit to Lakeland for dishcloths, gloves and Madagascan vanilla and M&S for tinned tuna. I can settle now, It’s the little things.

Marksies was crazy and they’re not even closing, I only went as it’s next door to Lakeland and I parked my car there.

I’m concerned about @PennyDreadfuI she’s been missing a long time.

PickAChew · 04/11/2020 20:50

Our Lakeland closed. One of he gaps in the arnison centre.

I do hope pennydreadful is OK and merely posting elsewhere or under a name change.

MissEWeatherwax · 04/11/2020 21:47

Durham was quite busy today. I felt very safe. Going to risk the Arnison centre tomorrow, pleased Smyths staying open even for click and collect. Wish The works was, costing me a small fortune in art supplies.
Hope no more shops close at Arnison centre, it’s already looking quite sad.

Shitfuckoh · 04/11/2020 21:55

Yeah @PennyDreadfuI hasn't posted for over 2 weeks now & even advance searching her username doesn't bring up anything posted since.

Hopefully just a name change....

Plussizejumpsuit · 05/11/2020 10:36

I'm worried about @PennyDreadfuI too!

Just been for my smear. Always fun! But essential. So treated myself to an iced coffee. It's the museums association conference this week. So I'm watching this online. It's all digital and free to members. I love the sector I work in and doing conferences /cpd stuff so I've missed this type of thing. So that my day. Trying to keep my spirits up. How's everyone else?

IggyAce · 05/11/2020 11:27

Morning sort of lost track of the thread, all caught up. I hope Penny & family are ok.
Anyone got anything planned for bonfire night? I plan on sparklers in the garden, with s’mores - marshmallows toasted over fire pit and hot dogs.
