There was no mention of support bubbles for single adult households. I guess it's a wait and watch to see how that pans out.

Shitfuckoh · 31/10/2020 20:30

Mine don't stay with their father. He usually visits them here when he's got nothing else to do and hasn't seen them since beginning of Sept. Think that's likely off the cards until December now

BessieSurtees · 31/10/2020 20:42

@gingeristhenewblack43 he mentioned that single person household could form bubbles in his speech.

@Shitfuckoh that's awful!

PickAChew · 31/10/2020 21:57

I'm sure it's a relief for a lot of people to see furlough back.

BessieSurtees · 31/10/2020 22:47

Thank you @Someaddedsugar

Someaddedsugar · 01/11/2020 09:24

Hope everyone's ok today

I went to Portrack Lane 2 days ago for an appointment (this is not my area) it was shocking in the likes of B&M (needed a couple of bits of tat for a project) no masks, crowded, people very close together and leaning over each other to get things of the shelves, I left without getting anything.

Went to Asda over the road, it was like a zoo, way too many people in the store, no social distancing, masks hanging in chins or no masks at all and with no exception notification (but found out the exemption badges are being sold on ebay) people generally not caring, no the wonder the rates are/were going up in this area, again I put my basket down and left ....

Just had to have a little rant about that

Aztectrousers · 01/11/2020 10:23

Eldon Square and Newcastle were heaving on Wednesday but nearly everyone wearing masks.
Had to queue for Aldi yesterday, first time in ages. Not looking forward to all that malarkey again.

Watched Boris & co on tv last night and the North East seems to be going down, although they did try to gloss over that. So here we go again.

gingercat02 · 01/11/2020 10:50

Really sad about lockdown. We are very fortunate to have lots of gorgeous indie businesses locally not sure how they can survive this in the run up to Christmas. Tier 2 seemed to be bringing our numbers down but being in the NHS I know the hospitals are really worried so I suppose this is to get the R down before the real health winter pressures hit

I've walked out of that asda in normal times. Cramped aisles, dreadful stock levels and piped music. I was ready to thump a member of the next large family group with shrieking kids to get in my way and goodness knows how the boys were feeling. We went to morrisons in hartlepool, instead, got everything we wanted and left without being arrested.
SouterSally · 01/11/2020 11:31

Yes, Pick its an awful shop only been in a handful of times, but there must of been about 40 people waiting in the self service 'q' and the tils that were open had long lines, which should of told management the shop has too many people in, god even the woman on the door telling people to use the sanitiser (or not) had no mask on, anyway, ended up in Bishop in a near empty Tesco, every person had a mask on, same with M&S....

Just found out I will not be able to go to work from next week either

Someaddedsugar · 01/11/2020 13:30

Dragonville was chaos - even Card Factory had a queue. It seemed it was only TK Maxx without one! And the B&M at Belmont was even worse with a queue of people outside squished together with hardly anyone wearing masks. I don't understand why people aren't getting it at all - do they not watch the news?! I fully appreciate not everyone can wear a mask but surely the majority can!

Plussizejumpsuit · 01/11/2020 14:09

Feeling mixed today. I can't do all of these threads again about whether we can drive for exercise, what shops are essential, what is acceptable childcare. So trying to avoid the current threads for a few days at least.

All the media talking about food panic buying are just scaremongering. Urgh.

BessieSurtees · 01/11/2020 14:36

I know @Plussizejumpsuit the widespread interpretation gives me the feeling that there is no hope. I know rules have been vague, and a bit Hokey Cokey but many threads seem to be, how far can I stretch this rule to justify doing what I want.

I text a friend earlier to see how their halloween went.

She actually replied saying they'd seen the news that was coming, so they headed out shopping yesterday, for hair cuts for the DC and to McD's.

Then went to her grandparents and her parents.
Went home & had their planned halloween (only the household) party.

But today they went back out to do more shopping and she reports it was just like what you said at Dragonville.
She doesn't wear a mask in the 'big shops' as no one 'knows her' and she can get away with not Hmm

I despair, I really do. I know she can do all of that (apart from the mask and the visits to the elderly!) but come on, my DC is in school with hers from Tuesday. Aren't we supposed to be trying to keep them open?!

PickAChew · 01/11/2020 15:42

Dh has just been to b&q over at dragonville. Said it was busy but not packed but he needed to pay a, whole £3 more than expected for his mdf because they didn't have the size they claimed to have in stock🙄

I'll happily indulge him because he's putting some more shelves in my glory hole.

Plussizejumpsuit · 01/11/2020 16:03

I popped into aldi today. I never go but just needed avocados and its way smaller than the massive tesco near me. Its was busy but plenty of stock. Drove past the metrocentre and it was very busy.

To be fair, I hate having to pay more for things than I need to aswell Grin

Erm.... glory hole has a whole different meaning here [shock[ Shock

gingeristhenewblack43 · 01/11/2020 16:45

@Shitfuckoh glory hole has a whole different meaning here too 🙈

My friend came over for a cuppa in the garden whilst we still can. It was ruddy freezing, but nice to have that 45 mins.

I took DD to the Silverlink retail park this afternoon for new school boots. No joy with the boots, but she did get slime making crap from hobbycraft, and new nail polishes from Boots. The only places with a queue were Hobbycraft and Wilkos.

We've hunkered down since getting home, hot chocs and painting DD's nails.

Another friend has been to McArthur Glen at York today and text to say there was a 25 minute queue just to get into the outlet centre.

gingeristhenewblack43 · 01/11/2020 16:47

We went past Smyths on the way to and from the Silverlink and the queue was snaking around the carpark.

I wanted a foot spa from there for DD but it's now out of stock. Kicking myself for not getting it when I was in there a couple of weeks ago.

Shitfuckoh · 01/11/2020 17:08

Not just me then Grin

I don't understand all the queues. I don't do queues at the best of time but in this weather, not a chance!

Today has just been relaxing indoors and getting the eldest prepared for return to school tomorrow after school was closed the week before half term. Others return Tuesday.

Someaddedsugar · 01/11/2020 17:17

Another one laughing at glory hole!

I don't understand the queues either unless what you need is abolutely essential.

@Shitfuckoh I totally agree - if the schools are staying open surely parents have a responsibility to keep their children as safe as possible so that everyone gets to stay at school!

Good news for all those new mums though who can meet others on a one to one basis with their little ones. I can imagine it would be very isolating if you've got a young baby at the moment.

Shitfuckoh · 01/11/2020 17:34

Since schools returned in September my thought process was to limit what we do, to try to ensure we weren't the ones to take it in to school.
I've ended up with 1 lot of isolation & 1 school closure since, but I'm still limiting what I do, because it needs to be that way right now. The teaching staff have no control who their pupils see, it's up to us as parents to try our best. Going to Tesco, ASDA, back to Tesco & a few other stores to stock up on things you've already got ''just in case everyone buys them all'' isn't the right thing to do IMO.

Aw, happy for the new mums. I can't imagine having a young baby at the moment, young children is bad enough but a brand new baby - first time mothers too. Nah. They need that walk with their friend and the little one, so pleased for them!
