My MP is on this (I'm taking it as a sign that my letter writing is having some effect). If your MP isn't it may be worth writing to ask them to join. They are likely to be getting pressure from their local colleagues as well, and London is a long long way away over halfterm.

Dowser · 27/10/2020 15:40

Felt really sad today
Walked round to the hotel the apartments face to change my book and it has a lovely reception area which had been stripped of all comfort
All the settlers had gone just a big open space, a piano one small table and 2 wooden chairs to sit on if pushed and a table with a nice centrepiece on

I went to the book cupboard and as soon as I saw all the tourist leaflets on top of them had been removed I knew what to expect.

Opened the wooden doors and they were as bare as a badgers arse.
No one in reception.
I felt like I’d been breaking and entering.

I once spent an afternoon sorting the blokes into Scandinavian and German and English in the other cupboard.

Now all gone and I bet they aren’t coming back either.
With no one to say ‘ hola’too we were like thieves in the night... who left empty handed
Sad
☹️

Fenwicks are doing a Facebook online window reveal

Grin
Shitfuckoh · 27/10/2020 21:04

Yes @Dowser why were you sorting them out & what happened once you got them in to the cupboard? Shock Grin

NoseringGirl · 27/10/2020 21:13

@InTheLongGrass I'm looking forward to the Fenwicks window reveal! Won't be as exciting as being there but it's nice to have something fun and almost normal coming up. They're closing part of Northumberland Street to stop a crowd gathering apparently.

I reckon the queues to see the window are going to be extra long this year between the social distancing and people wanting Christmas things to do. We missed out on Santa on the rooftop tickets this year (90 minutes in a virtual queue, got the tickets in my basket and then it froze and sent me back to the queue and all sold out Angry) but looking forward to being able to see the window in person!

Someaddedsugar · 27/10/2020 21:24

How're you doing @FrolickingLemon ?

MissEWeatherwax · 27/10/2020 22:38

I’m looking forward to Fenwicks window. My DD’s are too old, but I love it.
It didn’t look like very many people turned up to the protest at Durham market place. Figures are still coming down.Feeling hopeful.
Sorry for your loss FrolickingLemon.

Get those blokes in the cupboard where they can't cause trouble!

No idea what this is about!

FrolickingLemon · 28/10/2020 14:32

Thanks all ❤ @Someaddedsugar I'm ok thanks. Had a couple of angry days feeling everything is shit. But I am able to rationalise most things and can honestly say that I'm grateful for all that I currently have.

I've switched off a little and not paying as much attention to figures. Currently occupying myself with my usual prepping and Christmas activities. But part of me still feels it's inevitable we may end up with further restrictions going forward.

Oh and my whole street is decorated for Halloween. Everyone has really gone to town. I've spent hours cutting out Witch and Bat silhouettes for the windows. I'm going to peg out dozens of bags of Haribo on Halloween Bunting across the drive so nobody has to knock on the night. Tomorrow is pumping carving day!

Someaddedsugar · 29/10/2020 16:24

@FrolickingLemon Thanks.

I don't think losing someone is ever easy but at the moment things feel all the more cruel and sad. I can't watch anything about care homes without feeling rage at the thought that my DGrandma wouldn't have had such a sudden onset of dementia had we been allowed to see her.

Can I be nosy and ask what you do for your Christmas prep? Trying to make Christmas super special this year and taking inspiration from others. I spoke to a supplier at work this morning who said she was drying oranges this weekend to make her a wreath in November. I imagine her house smells incredible!

MissEWeatherwax · 29/10/2020 17:41

I have signed up the the Fenwicks window reveal. The weather is awful, I really don’t like the rain. Went to Durham today, empty then went to Arnison centre and it was rammed!
The figures for Durham city have really dropped, so that’s a good sign. Not that I think we are coming out of tier 2.

Someaddedsugar · 29/10/2020 18:17

@MissEWeatherwax I don't think they'll move us back to tier 1 either. I suppose if the Tees Valley goes into tier 3 it might be better for them to have us in tier 2 in some kind of strange logic?

I find the Arnison Centre so strange as it's busy nearly all the time unless it's after 7pm and then it goes quiet. Also, the queue for the McDonalds there is so annoying when it blocks the road.

MissEWeatherwax · 29/10/2020 18:31

Yes, Someaddedsugar , McDonald’s queue was definitely blocking both sides of the road today! They really should have on other side somehow, or an escape route. We will be going back after 7pm that’s a good idea.

PickAChew · 30/10/2020 00:11

Loads of stuff closes after 7pm. Even markses shuts at 8. It has been so busy, lately. It's always mad in the couple of months before Christmas, anyhow, but especially so, this year.

Izitso · 30/10/2020 07:51

Dreading a Tees Valley announcement confirming move in to tier 3 today - thinking of everyone who's finding it difficult, for whatever reason - I realise people are affected in different ways. Woke up feeling so down this morning so trying to think of others rather than myself Smile

MissEWeatherwax · 30/10/2020 09:33

I wake up sad everyday. Went to Arnison centre was lovely and quiet. Managed to buy everything I wanted. Went to Sainsbury’s last.

Plussizejumpsuit · 30/10/2020 12:09

How's everyone doing today? I've really struggle to focus this week. Then I'm beating myself up about not being productive. So not great but trying...

NoseringGirl · 30/10/2020 13:49

This looks positive for us! I find all the uncertainty so stressful especially with a baby due any day now but reading this gave me a bit of a boost.

Glimmer of hope even as Covid cases rise www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-54748633

Teesside Mayor on Look North tonight saying when not if they.go into Tier 3 next week. Apparently the Tyne/Wear/Durham councils are still in discussions with the government. NTC warning our numbers have gone up this week all over social media 😪
