@Snoringferret

Ah no, poor you shit !! Did they give a reason? (Obviously the reason is Covid but I mean more than that?)
PHE had advised them to close due to the amount of cases / bubbles affected. Plus I think with 4 bubbles isolating, it's possible staffing would have become an issue anyway. It was the 'You must come collect / arrange them to be collected' with 1 hour 20 mins of the school day left that got me. Would have been fairer on the DC to let them finish the day but I do understand why they couldn't/didn't.
Snoringferret · 16/10/2020 15:03

'You must come collect / arrange them to be collected'

That's crackers!!! Who's work would let them do that???

Shitfuckoh · 16/10/2020 15:07

@Snoringferret
I had the same regarding my pre-schooler when I had to collect him at the beginning of the week. Only I didn't get a call, it was a text sent out!
Difference being, 1 school (with the nursery attached) is a 5 minute walk away. The other is a 30ish min drive away (longer in traffic).
DC1 gets school transport. So I had to call the transport company & alert them to him needing collecting as the school had too many calls to make.

Snoringferret · 16/10/2020 15:13

@Shitfuckoh what a total shit show, that's insane.

Everyone is just living on high alert waiting for it all to kick off (or rather shut down) at any moment.

My anxiety is through the roof!

I'm sick of this tier 2/tier 3 dance, we all know we're going in it.

Plussizejumpsuit · 16/10/2020 15:20

Hi all @Shitfuckoh things sound hard! Sending good thoughts.

How's your dd @PennyDreadfuI how are you feeling about her potentially having it with your health? I are you in Gosforth? I'm in Central Gateshead and have a car so can help regarding supplies.

In exciting news I needed to go to pets at home so popped into the range as it's next door. It was really busy and they were playing Christmas music. I mean I love Christmas but come on?!

My sinuses are still hurting but I have a bit of an exciting thing happening with my art work tomorrow so trying to keep my spirits up. I really identify with feeling on high alert constantly. Like waiting for the next but of the shit show. I'm not sleeping well which is unusual for me.

Gonna do some excel and try to work out wy a grand total is different when all the sub totals are the same. Tips anyone? It's a bloody nightmare!

Shitfuckoh · 16/10/2020 15:28

@Snoringferret
It feels like we don't know which way is up at the moment doesn't it?
I wish they'd just decide what they're doing and get it over and done with.

@Plussizejumpsuit
Thank you.
Ooh Christmas music. I'm in the buying gifts stage & kind of planning in my head what we can actually do with the Christmas period this year but too early for Christmas music for me!

NeurotrashWarrior · 16/10/2020 15:29

Ah no Shitfuckoh!

I'm so sorry. The whole of Hadrian school had to shut a few weeks ago. I'm amazed we haven't had any more than one bubble closed so far but I feel it's only a matter of time.

Have they sorted home school learning out?I've been thinking of ideas all day in anticipation.

Snoringferret · 16/10/2020 15:29

I have to confess to putting on a Christmas wax melt the other day and it made me feel all cosy and cheerful.

PennyDreadfuI · 16/10/2020 15:44

Afternoon all! Oh my gosh you're all so kind. Thank you so much for your lovely words and kind offers of help/emergency bog roll dropoffs! The test arrived at 10.30 this morning and was winging its way to Glasgow by 11am so hopefully it'll get there tomorrow and we might get the result by Monday or Tuesday. If that's the case and it's negative we'll be ok for supplies, it it's positive that may be a different story! So fingers and everything else crossed.

DD is absolutely fine today apart from a slightly snotty nose. Taste and smell fine. She's probably absolutely fine and I will have cancelled by dentist appointment for nothing but you can't be too careful can you. It's annoying but it's the right thing to do.

It's me and DH's wedding anniversary today - the quietest one we've ever had! We didn't even manage to grab a bottle of fizz before we had to go into isolation yesterday. And to think, we should've been in Edinburgh right now 😢

The only good thing about today is that we've not gone into Tier 3. But that's only putting off the inevitable I think.

@Plussizejumpsuit I was really worried yesterday and really down too, the had enough-ness had reached critical levels. I'm a lot better today seeing that DD seems completely fine - I feel reassured that she's probably going to get a negative result. If she's positive I'm going to call my rheumatologist and see if there's anything I need to do/for reassurance. Sorry your sinuses are still being gits - it seems to have gone on for ages, poor thing. What's happening with your art work?

@Shitfuckoh what an absolute nightmare. It's just upset and confusion piling up and up isn't it.

I've got a Christmas candle burning right now, incidentally. I have also eaten stollen today. And precisely zero fucks are given Xmas Smile

@Neurotrashwarrior
He came home with a few worksheets. They have also made sure the children have access to things like Lexia & Espresso too. We used Espresso last time but wasn't able to use Lexia.

To be honest, I can cover the home learning. He managed so much during the previous school closure & his teachers were so impressed with how much he had improved that I'm not concerned about it.
Once we can get out for walks it will fly over, just until Wednesday and then things will seem easier. Unless of course we receive notification in the meantime that he's to isolate. I won't think like that though, positive thinking!

Did you manage to sort out any ideas in case home learning is needed?

@PennyDreadfuI
Fingers crossed it's negative for you! I opened up a tub of Treeselets today & I'm proud Grin

PickAChew · 16/10/2020 16:38

How frustrating @Shifuckoh. Do give us a shout if you need gin anything dropping off. I'm glad ds2's school is still keeping going, though he brought a seesaw qr code home today. His transport can't pick him up outside his normal time as they have other commitments so you're lucky that your ds's was able to. It's so frustrating.

I've been making the most of a table free of crumbs by cutting out some jammie bottoms. It's my first time using a rotary cutter and it's pretty substantial cotton jersey and I'm shattered. I think I'm going to really feel it in my shoulders, later. Cutting the top out shouldn't take me as long but will have to wait until Monday.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 16/10/2020 17:10

Oh dear sorry to those who are poorly, have sold shut or other crap going on.

It is all exciting here. New, job, new beautiful, huge table, new mattress.

Takeaway curry shall be eaten tonight.

Went to Durham today. I'm in a mission to do a much Christmas shopping as possible while I still have children at school (and therefore not with me or otherwise impeding shopping) and shops open. Added to the book stash, got various stocking bits and bobs like nice colouring pens and stuff and bought far too much in meeple games. I could have sworn there was a health type place in the market that sold friendly soap company soaps but I couldn't bloody find it and the one way system confused the hell out of me.

Someaddedsugar · 16/10/2020 17:18

I hope everyone's ok - it must be so hard with schools closing, especially for those who need the routine.

We're essentially self isolating until the funeral on Wednesday as I don't want to miss it and I'm now at the point where I'm concerned about coming into contact with someone who has the virus. It's so strange as during the first lockdown and then when the lockdown lifted it didn't really bother me but with the figures rising so much I'm much more aware of the numbers and the risks if isolation is required.

In other news I have just tried a Treeslet and can't believe these have only just entered my life!!

Aztectrousers · 16/10/2020 17:24

Going off on a tangent here but does anyone know if Debenhams in Eldon Square is still open?

NeurotrashWarrior · 16/10/2020 17:42

Good shit, hope the next few days and weeks go ok.

I have a few ideas now thanks. Not an easy area mine!

Do we think we will be tier 3 next week??

IggyAce · 16/10/2020 17:59

Evening FlowersGin for you all sounds like a few are having a tough day.
I’ve done a lot of my Christmas shopping already, I want the majority done by the end of the month. I’ve got a teen who would love a trip to Newcastle or metro centre sometime in November for Christmas shopping, but all I can say is wait and see.
I’ve done some planning for half term and have booked tickets for Beamish. Am looking forward to that and will hopefully get some gingerbread from the bakery.

gingeristhenewblack43 · 16/10/2020 18:01

@FrolickingLemon iirc you are North Tyneside too? My friend text me today to say all NTC leisure centres will be closed again after half term.

PickAChew · 16/10/2020 18:06

@Aztectrousers

Going off on a tangent here but does anyone know if Debenhams in Eldon Square is still open?
I do believe that one survived the cull.
Snoringferret · 16/10/2020 18:10

I walked past it today and I think it was open. I don't remember it being closed anyway.

juneybean · 16/10/2020 19:00

@OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea Oooh new job?

FrolickingLemon · 16/10/2020 19:10

@gingeristhenewblack43 yep. Well remembered. I'm NT. DD was at waves and even though I was expecting them to maybe take it week by week, it really took me by surprise when her swimming teacher said last night, that it would be January before any more lessons commenced. I don't blame them. They all know they would be playing the hokey Cokey. But still gutted for DD as swimming is her thing. Also gutted for the staff who have jumped through hoops and just for used to teaching again.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 16/10/2020 19:15

@juneybean yes! Same field, more specialised. I've just eaten Capital curry takeaway. Had to share with the kids. Gits. They told DH when he went to collect that they will be in trouble unless trade picks up. With its looking likely to be tier 3 next week that's not going to happen is it.

truthlemon · 16/10/2020 19:34

So sorry for your loss noaddedsugar Flowers

And happy vibes to all those who are struggling today. It's all a bit crap, I know. I have one DC who had to isolate after a case in primary school, then days later another DC isolating from secondary school. Homeschooling a SEN child is not easy Sad but hey ho, it is what it is. I can't imagine it getting much easier this winter. Expecting Tier 3 any day now - just in time for half-term Wine

Shitfuckoh · 16/10/2020 19:41

Ah @Someaddedsugar I hope the funeral goes as well as it can. I've avoided doing much at all since the DC returned to school. Now part of me is regretting it but I do believe I've done what I can, which is all any of us can.
Hoping to make it until isolation ends with no gin! Do have wine if it reaches that stage this weekend. Thank you @PickAChew and @NeurotrashWarrior
