Have Durham done similar to what I assume Northumbria did, and rest everyone, and so get a massive amount of asymptomatic cases? If Northumbria just tested the symptomatic students, the numbers would have been much lower (but wouldnt help them know what was going on, and hence stand a chance of stemming it).
If the unis are blindly testing the whole population, the numbers are going to be skewed compared to the rest of the population.
I also have assumed that a high profile biology department may be able to carry out their own testing, but I dont know?

This was on my FB feed earlier looks like they want to give Tier 2 a chance www.my.northtyneside.gov.uk/news/27105/statement-local-leaders-about-current-local-restrictions

Well, DD was meant to go for her elfing induction day at Dobbies today. Instead she's in bed, boiling hot, no sense of taste or smell. She didn't tell us until late this afternoon because she 'didn't want to worry' us but she's now ordered a test which should be here tomorrow. Our postman has only been coming once or twice a week so who knows when it'll get here, though.

I'm worried about her although not overly, she's fit and healthy and only 23 so hopefully if she does have it it won't be too awful. I've been feeling a bit tired and achy today but I often do because of my RA, but unfortunately my RA also makes me slightly higher risk.

What's really upset me though is that I finally scored a dentist's appointment for Monday morning to hopefully get my broken in half back tooth sorted, and now I'll have to cancel it. We won't have a result back by then so I can't go obviously, as far as I understand it none of us can go out if one is waiting for a test/result.

We have nowhere near two weeks worth of food/essentials in, if she tests positive we'll have to use books as bog roll 😂

Shitty shitty McShitterson. With an extra helping of bollocks.

Aw no Penny that is truly shit for both of you. Hope she's negative and on the mend soon (won't help your poorly tooth)

ColonSemiColon · 15/10/2020 19:07

@PennyDreadfuI, it’ll come via an Amazon courier, so should be there tomorrow. You’ll then need to take it to a priority post box. Hope you’re all ok.

ColonSemiColon · 15/10/2020 19:08

We requested a test on a Thursday and got the result Monday morning, so you might be ok for the dentist.

PennyDreadfuI · 15/10/2020 19:10

@Snoringferret how is puss today?

I know exactly what you all mean re the constant uncertainty and worry. My MH has been in a right state this week. When DD told us she was ill earlier I just burst into tears. I've had the occasional bubble (usually before everyone gets up, nowt like a wee self indulgent cry to start the day) but today I was just like, oh fuck this. Fuck it all. And had a big snotty cry in front of DH and DD. DH is a typical practical Geordie bloke and was all 'why are you crying, that's not going to help' although tbh I think it was because he hates seeing me cry and just wants me to stop when I start! He made me a cup of tea and I ate some Lidl stollen bites (my next Christmas food obsession after Treeselets l think) and that helped. Comfort eating does help, sadly.

But yes. Winter is a shit time for a lot of people's MH and this winter is going to be especially hard isn't it. Every day feels an effort. Waking up with that heavy feeling in your stomach or worse, waking up and for a second not remembering what's going on, then when you do it hits you like a ton of bricks.

Ugh.

Big cross post while I was wittering on there!

@gingercat02 thank you. She seems quite chipper, just very warm and the taste/smell thing plus a slightly snotty nose. No cough yet. She does get quite nasty colds, especially at this time of year, so fingers crossed that's all it is.

@ColonSemiColon she was told it would come by Royal Mail tracked 24 - we thought that was unusual. We have a designated post box right at the end of our street not 30 seconds away so that at least won't be a problem! I had no idea the postal tests could be so quick - I'll hold off cancelling the dentist until the last minute, in case. I need that appointment!

Ah Penny what shit luck. This whole thing is a clusterfuck. Hope all turns out well. We for our test delivered via Amazon the next day too, so hopefully light at the end of the tunnel soon. I have arthritis and moderate asthma so constantly second guessing myself regarding what's normal. This is just shit. Totally impossible.

Aww, crap.

If the worst comes to the worst, I've been able to score regular online delivery slots, lately, plus shops like coop are on deliver OO for emergency stuff.

clareykb · 15/10/2020 19:39

Durham is the uni, I'm a post grad student there technically part time from home. They have tested close contacts though so all those won't be symptomatic. Also in my other job I'm a supply teacher and all schools in England have to have a an for online learning of needed by half term. This came in in August so isn't anything to do with the current situation or local levels
.hope that might reassure people slightly

swg1 · 15/10/2020 19:51

@PennyDreadfuI Give us a clue where you are? I for one would be happy to drop bogroll and run.

Snoringferret · 15/10/2020 20:29

Aw no penny that's awful, your poor daughter!!! And poor you!! I hope you all feel better soon!

Cat had to have emergency surgery today to insert a SUB device into her kidney as it was a big kidney stone blocking her kidney that was the issue.

She's now the most expensive and high maintenance £50 rescue known to man Grin

She's recovering well but obviously I'm still really chewed.

On of my other cats is being ridiculously clingy and keeps trying to herd me around the house as she's obviously trying to get me to find her. They don't really like each other but she can't settle unless everyone is present and correct.

My third cat doesn't give a shit.

Someaddedsugar · 15/10/2020 20:30

@PennyDreadfuI I'm 99% sure you're not Durham but if you are I can get some shopping for you.

How's things @Snoringferret?

Grandma's funeral is next week which feels scarily fast but I'm pleased we'll be able to celebrate her life together as I was slightly concerned we'd end up in total lockdown before getting a date.

Someaddedsugar · 15/10/2020 20:30

Cross posted @Snoringferret - that's fab news (not for your bank balance though!)

Yeah I know about the online learning needed to be in place by half term. I figured that's why the school asked about what tech etc children had access to back in September. The same school sent the text earlier asking about internet access. I hope it's more crossing the T's - could be brought on by the nursery setting (where my DC3 goes) all isolating due to a positive case.
Shitfuckoh · 15/10/2020 20:42

@PennyDreadfuI

I hope your DD is okay.
I'm happy to prime delivery anything needed if it helps.

CremeEggThief · 15/10/2020 21:23

Take care, everyone. I'm waiting for a result from a home test, as I started coughing after two people at work tested positive. But I've felt okay, apart from being tired. I don't think I'm coughing as much either.

I hope your DD feels better soon, @PennyDreadfuI, and you make your appointment.

Take care, everyone.

TackyTriceratops · 16/10/2020 06:11

Hi @PennyDreadfuI I hope you're all ok?

I can drop some stuff off if you need me too? I think I'm local to you, gosforth high street is my local area. I hope she's ok. (I've name changed.)

Shitfuckoh · 16/10/2020 14:04

Eldests school is closed as of 30 mins ago Sad
They have no idea yet if they'll reopen after half term. He's going to be so confused. I'm heartbroken for all the DC even though I know with a specialist school, who now have quite a high number of confirmed & suspected that it's for the best they all stay safe.

FrolickingLemon · 16/10/2020 14:19

Jesus @Shitfuckoh what a week you have had. Yes it is best they all stay safe, but what a confusing time for DC. My DD has just gone back to swimming lessons and we were told next week will be the last. They aren't scheduling any more till at least January. It is the only thing keeping her going. Something has to give in this next week or so. The whole of the UK and beyond is in an absolute spaghetti junction of different rules and if it is going to become this fragmented, then I think they need to shut schools, provide decent online learning and fix test and trace.

What a fucking mess. Hope everyone ok. It's been quiet here today.

BexR · 16/10/2020 14:25

Oh no @shitfuckoh, it must be so hard for schools to make any plans beyond a few days. Surely we are heading for a circuit breaker over an extended half term.

I'm not entirely sure what circuit breakers involve. School closure I guess along with tier 3 level restrictions?

gingercat02 · 16/10/2020 14:29

Oh no schools closing is a nightmare. I think we are heading back to total lockdown.
Lancashire is going to Tier 3 at midnight tomorrow. The hotel we are going to tomorrow is in pigging Lancashire! 1st world problems I know but we have been looking forward to it so much 😫

Snoringferret · 16/10/2020 14:40

Ah no, poor you shit !!
Did they give a reason? (Obviously the reason is Covid but I mean more than that?)

Shitfuckoh · 16/10/2020 14:43

Apparently it's 4 bubbles, 6 confirmed with more awaiting results / testing.
Horrid week & I'm cursing this virus even more than before!

@gingercat02
Sorry about the hotel - so hard isn't it when you're really looking forward to something and then plans need to change.

@FrolickingLemon
I really feel for your DD. None of my DCs activities have started back up yet and I get the feeling they won't be for quite a while.
