I hadn't realised the north tyneside leisure centres were going to be closing again! Is that due to the rising numbers or not enough people using them?

gingeristhenewblack43 · 16/10/2020 19:55

@NoseringGirl I don't think it's lack of use as my sister has reported gym slots are fully booked and my exH said he couldn't get a slot to take DD swimming last weekend as they were booked solid.

DD will be gutted if they close the swimming pools again.

juneybean · 16/10/2020 20:03

@OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea ah brill, congratulations! And Capital Curry without us? :(

Shitfuckoh · 16/10/2020 20:04

Oh @PickAChew I was surprised too but I think it had more to do with the fact that it was a whole school closure rather than just him needing picked up, if that makes sense?

@truthlemon
I tried to reply earlier in my previous post but gave up as my tablet kept changing 'truthlemon' to 'gentlemen' Confused
You see, that's where I'm lucky to some degree my SEN DC (thankfully only primary school) is happy to do homelearning. It's difficult though as the full time needs to be filled, so a lot more hard work than my NT DC. Who is generally happy to motor through all the set work & then do online learning apps for the rest - reading plus, mathletics, lexia etc. That only works with my eldest if I've actually timetabled it in to his 'day'.

PickAChew · 16/10/2020 20:10

Mine won't do any home learning at all. School is school. Home is home. Lockdown made Ds2 far more rigid than ever. He will be sitting, shivering, in our draughty house, right through the winter, at this rate, as we can't get him out of short sleeves.

Shitfuckoh · 16/10/2020 20:16

@PickAChew
Quite a few people have said their DC also wouldn't do home learning, for the same reason as yours - home being home etc. Totally understandable.
Oh no, is he open to a oodie or something like it? Mine is too much the other way. He'll have a duvet up to his ears even in summer if he could.

truthlemon · 16/10/2020 20:19

Oh shitfuckoh, it's tough. But I know she does a tonne more of work with me than at school but it's just sooooo hard. Hence the Wine this evening. Much of the problem is that the work sent out it for the whole school year rather than tailored to her ability Sad

pickachew, that's also a problem. Me nagging at home gets poor results. It's tough for them. Thank goodness I have the time (and inclination) to get her working - I really feel for those who don't have the time to support (nag!) their kids. It's a shitty time. Thank goodness for gin Wine

gingeristhenewblack43 · 16/10/2020 20:29

@FrolickingLemon @NoseringGirl my manager's son manages one of the NT leisure centres so I've text him. He has said he has had no info about the leisure centres closing.

The swimming lessons running at the mo are to 'pay back' the lessons paid for that kids should have had if lockdown had not happened, which equates to 3 weeks of lessons owed.

Because of SD they have had to reduce the number of kids in the lessons therefore they have a lot of 'owed lessons' to get through. Because of that they can't start new swimming lesson groups until January.

Someaddedsugar · 16/10/2020 20:29

Thanks guys Smile.

I've just seen in the Northern Echo that the Raaj at Chester Moor has been forced to close as it's not complying with the restrictions - slightly worrying!

midgebabe · 16/10/2020 20:43

Just introducing myself as a lurker. I amn't in the north east, but Mam is, and it's so aweful being so far away. She sounded really down on the phone tonight. Unable to see an end, and unable to imagine herself doing anything normal when it does end.

gingeristhenewblack43 · 16/10/2020 21:02

@midgebabe does your mam have technology that would enable her to join mumsnet and this support group? We'd love to have her onboard and be able to give her some social contact and interaction.

midgebabe · 16/10/2020 21:06

She's 80. Social media is a bit off her radar. she does video calls, but only because I showed her when we could see each other face to face , she can learn thing but I can't show her at the moment.

GalaxyCookieCrumble · 16/10/2020 21:23

Evening all, hope you are all doing well, just reading the news watching Boris intervening in Manchester, what a muppet, destroying the livelihoods of millions of northerners to save the southern economy, because let's face it, he is outright lying if he try's to tell us London is not as high !

Spoke to delivery driver from Morrison's tonight who said you would not believe how many people in Boro are taking the piss acting like nothing is happening, so it's alright for Ben Houchen to say he spearheaded our area into staying in Tier 2, but from what is going on around us, I wonder how long for?

truthlemon · 16/10/2020 21:59

Bloody hell, I wrote a post and it disappeared! Such a shame about Le Raaj 🙁 DH got a takeaway from there last weekend and said how well organised it was - can't believe they've been shut down! Amazing food too!

legodisasterzone · 16/10/2020 22:05

Hi. Hope everyone is as okay as they can be.

I had to venture to the Metrocentre today and it was bizarre. It looked like everyone was complying and wearing masks (unless exempt and wearing lanyard) and it wasn’t busy at all, but I found the whole experience quite stressful.
I kept going the wrong way on one way systems or going into a shop to discover I walked through the exit side!
I felt like I was constantly on my guard and trying to follow all the rules and signs.
Local shops or online for me from now on.

Someaddedsugar · 16/10/2020 22:13

@midgebabe has your mum signed up to the nhs check in and chat service? I volunteer with them and we ring people and have a chat with them about anything and everything - it can help to pass the time and also gives people an opportunity to talk to someone different.

SkintSanta · 16/10/2020 22:52

Joining in if you don’t mind! Durham ish area. Hadn’t thought about the implications of the metro centre shops, but phone is playing silly buggers so might actually have to go to the dreaded Apple store

Oh, we've had a bit of a struggle with season changes with both of them, over the years. DS1 struggled just last summer, ending up hot and angry at school. He picks the skin on his arms and didn't want to expose his scabs. He doesn't have LDs like Ds2 so was a bit easier to push over the hump with some new t-shirts from weird fish.

Ds2 won't wear anything jumper like indoors. An oodie would be a no. and he'd probably just piss on it, anyhow.

PickAChew · 16/10/2020 23:11

I haven't been to the Metrocentre since March. The only thing that would tempt me us the prospect of my glasses not getting cold between shops. I'd need dh to take me, though, as I wouldn't take the bus, right now, even though we have one direct. Since about June he's been promising to use up some of his leave "when we get this thing working." I appreciate that, in the current climate, him being overwhelmed with work is a nice problem to have but we've had no time, just the two of us, this year, and it's putting a real strain on our relationship.

Dockray · 17/10/2020 06:55

Congrats @OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea. Nice to have some good news Smile Not so good about the Capital. Sad

My parents have chosen the middle of a pandemic to move to the NE. I'm supposed to be helping them move so on tenterhooks as to whether 1) it'll happen 2) I can go help.

BessieSurtees · 17/10/2020 08:12

Morning Angels of the North, I’m back where I belong after escaping to the North York’s moors for a week where I actively avoided as much news as I could because I’m finding the constant speculation more stressful than the actual announcements.

I’ve been working from home since March and for the foreseeable so it was great to leave these four walls. Long walks (in the rain) and opting out of reality for a few days was a rare privilege.

Sorry to hear about your grandma @Someaddedsugar, it’s always a bad time when we lose someone but these circumstances only add to the loss. I hope your cats on the mend @Snoringferret and your DD test is negative @PennyDreadfuI.

Juggling the schools sounds a nightmare, well done @Shitfuckoh on forcing some clarity on absences. My DGS was telling me how happy he is back at school and how he’s not bored anymore, he’s 8. I don’t think the powers that be are realising how difficult it will be for our children to cope with more school closures and lockdowns, never mind the parents.

midgebabe · 17/10/2020 08:20

@Someaddedsugar , thanks for the idea. I am wondering if she should actually talk to her doctor. Mental health problems in older people so easily go unrecognised, but she was scaring me last night. Even when dad died she managed to keep some determination going.

After managing to visit at the end of August, when she looked so small and frail compared to Christmas,we are trying to move north ( another one trying to move in the middle of a pandemic) to be closer but that's not easy! Work have been good and will let me WF up north rather than home if I get there.

Someaddedsugar · 17/10/2020 08:25

@BessieSurtees hope you had a lovely time!

@midgebabe I think quite a lot of the people I've spoken to have been referred to the service through their GP or similar.

Whereabouts does she live in the north east - could one of us maybe try and drop something off for you to cheer her up?

Someaddedsugar · 17/10/2020 08:26

@truthlemon I was quite shocked too - I imagined they'd have been on the ball with the rules and any relevant restrictions in our area. According to the article there were 5 or 6 places closed down, and the rest were all village locals or WMCs so I was quite shocked to see Le Raaj on the list.

midgebabe · 17/10/2020 10:00

How kind! I can send her things easy enough though , she really needs dragging out, but she's developed a terror of catching the virus and being incubated
