Would you wear a mask at home if made mandatory?

Just seeing if anybody would go along with it.

Nope, stupid idea. The current rules are crazy as it is - Next they'll be telling us we all need to be 'safely' tucked up in bed by 10pm!

Poppingnostopping · 10/10/2020 13:06

Not in my house with my children, but when the grandparents visit, we all wear masks indoors now. Too cold to stay outside, but with three different educational establishments involved, we all just feel a bit more secure. We could obviously not see them but it seems a shame to do that and they are happy with the risk and I'd much prefer to see them with a mask.

If I knew I had corona, I would consider wearing a mask in my own household. I'm always keen to keep people apart when they are sick, if the kids get a cold, they usually rest, get food brought to them, use separate towel etc. I'm not one of these if one gets it, we all get it, people, and I've rarely had spread of things like stomach bugs in our house, if one gets it, the rest of us often don't.

In the student households not everyone in close quarters with the corona positive person gets it, we don't know why- could be no transmission or they are immune, wouldn't hurt to try to prevent the spread.

Having recently had a baby, I’d consider it emotionally harmful if he was unable to see smiles or learn facial expressions.

Poppingnostopping · 10/10/2020 13:08

When people had SARS in the UK, much of their care was done at home, by their relatives, wearing masks and setting up barrier type care (so having something over the door). That hasn't been suggested at all this time around, not sure why if some people really are high risk of corona.

RegularHumanBartender · 10/10/2020 13:09

Not in a million years would I even entertain the idea.

VinylDetective · 10/10/2020 13:12

Not bloody likely. I’m mystified by pp referring to not sharing towels and toothbrushes - who does this at any time?

Sleepyblueocean · 10/10/2020 13:13

I bet there are some posters who think this is a good idea.

iluvgab · 10/10/2020 13:14

Absolutely not.
That is going too far.
I wonder if a government really does have the right to make things mandatory in your own private space.
I am in another country where the constitutional court has ruled that it is unconstitutional for our government to place limits on how many people you can have visiting you at home ie. their actions during the first wave were unconstitutional because they forbade households from mixing.
Now that we have a maximum of 10 people allowed to participate in private parties they have had to say that this does not apply to private property but that they recommend that people do not meet in groups of more than 10 in their own homes.
They can not make it law.

Making masks at home mandatory would be on stepping on extremely dodgy ground. They could recommend their use in certain circumstances but not enforce it.

AuntieStella · 10/10/2020 13:15

The actual idea that, if you have a vulnerable person in the house and you are out and about in places that may not be Covid safe, it is a good idea to put more precautions in place in the home, is a sound one.

Ditto fi one person is isolating.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 10/10/2020 13:17

The march of society into very bad places only happens by taking lots of steps towards our doom. I’m observing the gradual erosion of all of our basic freedoms and assumed rights. But it’s happening slowly enough for most people not to realise or to make the decisions that each step is only a small progression and therefore worth it to stop the far worse prognosis of certain death by this virus. The obvious analogy is the slow boiling of a frog in a pot of water that is gradually turned up To 100 degrees.

Funkypolar · 10/10/2020 13:17

As I’m pregnant and vulnerable I asked DH to wear a face mask at home. He just looked at me. Hmm

Sent him off to buy McDonald’s instead.

Seriouslymole · 10/10/2020 13:19

No I would not.

However, my take away from this thread is that some people share toothbrushes. I am now very disturbed and I’m not quite sure why.

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 10/10/2020 13:19

I think even the most extreme lockdown fetishisers would draw the line at wearing a mask at home!

SoUtterlyGroundDown · 10/10/2020 13:19

@Funkypolar

If it became mandatory I can imagine a few Mumsnetters peering into their neighbours homes and phoning 999 because they aren’t wearing a mask.
If it became mandatory I would phone 999 and myself and give them my own address so that they could come round and issue me with a fine, which I would refuse to pay and have my day in court opposing the fucking ridiculous law.
midlifecrash · 10/10/2020 13:20

Nobody is suggesting this

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 10/10/2020 13:20

Has this idea actually been floated then?!

Lucindainthesky · 10/10/2020 13:20

I would if I or somebody else in the house tested positive, yes.

Obviously not otherwise. Stupid goady question.

Topseyt · 10/10/2020 13:21

I will never wear a mask at home under any circumstances.

Obviously if I needed supplementary oxygen administered for health reasons then that would be different, but a basic face covering because the twatty government says so!!?? Not a chance.

Blondiney · 10/10/2020 13:22

LOLZ.

Family1st2020 · 10/10/2020 13:22

No and absolutely ridiculous.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 10/10/2020 13:22

I live alone. I’d rather risk being arrested.

Funkypolar · 10/10/2020 13:24

If you read my posts you would see the idea has been floated by the BMJ and a Doctor in the USA so not goady.

And because masks obviously work so well and according to the government data most transmission is in the home, why would we not wear them at home then? Wink

OP posts:
amusedtodeath1 · 10/10/2020 13:24

No, because it's a ridiculous suggestion that has never been mentioned because it's so batshit not even this Govt. would consider it.

ArcheryAnnie · 10/10/2020 13:24

Why is this a thread? Nobody is proposing it, and nobody is suggesting it would in any way be workable.

I might as well ask "would you shower in your socks at home if made mandatory?".

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 10/10/2020 13:26

Is this a joke?!
