It's really happening according to the Sun. Do you think its worth it? Will England follow during their half term?

My kids only get 1 weeks holiday starting on Monday, this is rediculous!

AlecTrevelyan006 · 06/10/2020 09:08

completely and utterly pointless - which no doubt means it will happen.

Sturgeon - even more than most politicians - is a control freak and needs to show that she is 'doing something'

secretllama · 06/10/2020 09:18

Utterly pointless. 2 weeks to buy 28 days?

Do you know what... Id actually comply if the 38 days of non lockdown life it bought me were normal. But no, im not living my life going from full lockdown to being reward with this miserable joyless restricted life for another month. Ill continue seeing my family when I want, thanks Nicola and Jason all the same 👍

secretllama · 06/10/2020 09:18

28 days*
Rewarded*

Sorry I'm just so bloody angry I can't type!

Char2015 · 06/10/2020 09:25

If they do a 2 week circuit breaker, it would make sense not to open everything back up after. You can't have everything open again because otherwise it will be an endless cycle. The question then is what stays closed to keep numbers down.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 06/10/2020 09:34

@Rushjob but closing hairdressers/beauty doesn’t make sense either as that hasn’t been shown to be where it is spreading either

GoldenOmber · 06/10/2020 09:39

If it works then fine, I suppose, but I wish they hadn’t dithered for so long repeating “remember FACTS!” when clearly telling people to remember FACTS wasn’t working.

I hope they’ll say something about childcare. I can work from home, but oh God the thought of doing that while looking after bored stir crazy children again fills me with dread.

nibdedibble · 06/10/2020 09:40

Well, it’s just a fact that limiting trips outside means less transmission of the virus, and numbers of infections are rising. The initial lockdown worked very, very well.

Even if you hate Sturgeon, you cannae change the facts. I’m ok with it and honestly I don’t understand why people aren’t. I mean, I get that it’s difficult, it’s difficult for us all. We’ll look back on it as a sort of trauma. I fucking hate this pandemic and I cried yesterday at the thought of the next few months, not seeing family. I’d not want them to get a virus that could mean their last years would be essentially living with a disability though. (Or worse.) What sort of a person wishes that on people?

GoldenOmber · 06/10/2020 09:43

Yes, I will absolutely hate it, but “I will absolutely hate it so therefore it’s a bad idea” is not really a great argument against doing it is it?

I see the Sun’s going full in on the “there is no point to doing this at all and the government are just enjoying the power now” approach. How clever of the SNP to set up a second wave across Europe just so they do better in the polls! Hmm

borageforager · 06/10/2020 09:44

This is just the same throwing around the idea of a two week circuit breaker, no confirmation that it’s actually happening. ‘NHS sources say’ Hmm

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 06/10/2020 09:44

@secretllama unless my holiday cottage cancels I will still be going to see my sister

GoldenOmber · 06/10/2020 09:45

Didn’t she say yesterday they were deciding it at Cabinet this morning?

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 06/10/2020 09:46

Not in her house I will add but she can apparently come and sit in my holiday cottage 🙄 or outside

Glitterkitten24 · 06/10/2020 09:46

I feel so low today as the speculation ramps up and this seems more certain in Scotland. I’m a teacher currently off isolating, and now it sounds like we are heading straight for more restrictions, possibly a lockdown.

This term has been so hard already, and to be locked down rather than on holiday next week is quite a thought.

I don’t think the compliance will be there this time either, people are fed up.

emmathedilemma · 06/10/2020 09:48

This @Lazt!!!
The north west isn't really in lockdown @GabriellaMontez - they just can't mix in private households or gardens, and we're not allowed to do the former in Scotland anyway. Their schools, pubs, gyms, etc are all still open. I reckon Queen Nicola will be going tougher for 2 weeks over hald term :(

audweb · 06/10/2020 09:52

Half term has started. I’m on holiday already with my kid in the north of Scotland. If this comes in next week does that mean she’ll end up with three weeks off? So the east coast kids miss more school than west coast ones? You can’t do it around school holidays when we all have different ones.

GoldenOmber · 06/10/2020 09:54

I would guess it means they won’t close the schools that are open, but they’re timing it to coincide with when most are shut.

emptyshelvesagain · 06/10/2020 09:55

So it's a circuit breaker for some but not all because some kids will be at school?

GoldenOmber · 06/10/2020 09:57

I don’t think they ever suggested that ‘circuit breaker’ means no kids are at school. Probably it means shutting a lot of things but stopping short of full lockdown.

But I don’t know either, because they’ve dithered and speculated about this forever rather than just clearly setting out the plan and telling us.

nibdedibble · 06/10/2020 10:04

The dithering is probably because like every country, they are winging it. I feel sorry for anyone in charge tbh. It’s fucking hard. Basically the very best thing is shut schools, shut everywhere, full lockdown. But we’re all going mental, businesses can’t take that, education suffers, the elderly suffer. Don’t envy anyone making these decisions.

Ecosse · 06/10/2020 10:04

This is madness. Sturgeon has had 6 months to get a test and trace system running effectively. How is she going to managed in 2 weeks what her and her government have failed to do for 6 months?

We will not have an economy left if we carry on with this cycle of lockdowns. Sturgeon has no interest in the economy or people’s mental health.

I actually hope Johnson overrules her on this and tells her it’s not happening.

Rushjob · 06/10/2020 10:06
@Rushjob but closing hairdressers/beauty doesn’t make sense either as that hasn’t been shown to be where it is spreading either
I agree. No more closures. It’s only ruining lives and business.

We can’t guarantee one hair dresser that won’t shut - Ms Sturgeons - 🤣😂

xtinak · 06/10/2020 10:06

I think the circuit breaker concept is a bit of a misnomer. Rather they are going to look at introducing more measures in general.

I wouldn't like to be on the decision making panel though because there are no low cost measures left. Every idea you could come up with is a bad one.

It's interesting that ROI was recommended to go back into full lockdown and they decided not to do it.

nibdedibble · 06/10/2020 10:06

Track and trace is up and running
Testing is at the mercy largely of the lighthouse labs/Deloitte so it’s fucked but that’s Westminster

Ecosse · 06/10/2020 10:11

@nibdedibble

Health is a devolved issue and Sturgeon could and should have had a test and trace system working.

Unfortunately her and her party cannot run a bath and this is just the latest in a long line of failures from ferries to schools.
