If you had to predict when a return to normal life will happen ....

When do you realistically predict that life will return to almost pre-virus normality? I say next Spring if a vaccine is produced; if not then I think we might see a natural fading of infection during the Summer.

@inuet

When will we be able to go about our business sociably, gather in groups, live well again? I reckon by Summer 2023 - but that we will be starting to head towards it and feel more open and confident by next spring. 2023..so you think people will tolerate not being able to live properly for another 3 years?? Absolute and utter drivel- a load of people trying to outdo each other in being the ones to make the most pessimistic prediction for fear of being naïve. I'd probably consider ending my life if things weren't much better well before then, at least then I wouldn't end up reading rubbish like this
God. Someone like you wouldnt be able to cope with a real crisis.
MadameBlobby · 06/10/2020 13:13

What would be a “real crisis”?

HesterShaw1 · 06/10/2020 13:20

Some people really can't resist sticking the boot in can they?

Someone says they are struggling with life at the moment and they are mocked. Nice.

Newflash: life is not normal at the moment. And many people are finding it very hard.

Janevaljane · 06/10/2020 13:24

Life is utterly shit. Can't wait until it's back to normal, capitalism or no capitalism. When I can hug my parents in law and my teens can go to live music concerts and be carefree, then we can think about living more sustainably.

@inuet - if you'll note I followed up my post - meant 2022. I'm an optimist by nature btw but "what people will tolerate" is irrelevant.

I'm not talking about the restrictions placed upon us in any case - I'm talking about the net sum impact of the pandemic and response to it. Things will be better (as indeed it says in the second half of my sentence) but they will be different forever, IMO. What has happened has happened. Things have already changed. But it's not necessarily all bad!

BoJo has just promised the Tory conference that there will be no social distancing or limitations on gathering by their next conference in September 2021.

^"We will ensure that the next time we meet it will be face-to-face and cheek by jowl...flying in a plane will be back to normal, hairdressers will no longer look as if they’re handling radioactive isotopes… we can go and see our loved ones in care homes and we (will) no longer have to greet each other by touching elbows as in some giant national version of the birdy dance." ^

lljkk · 06/10/2020 14:35

Isn't BoJo supposed to be dead in a ditch? Such are the value of his promises.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 06/10/2020 14:41

Yes, Christmas 2020 is in September 2021

NastyBlouse · 06/10/2020 15:10

Can we all just pause for a moment and bask in the concept of the Tory Party conference being any kind of locus of normality Grin

loulouljh · 06/10/2020 15:20

by Spring..if not before.

Thelatestfigures · 06/10/2020 15:50

We are expecting to sell up and take the van on the road, we'll just end up like the medieval wandering minstrels and court jesters.

We have the van ready

Have you read the book Station Eleven? Remarkably similar plot line Smile
@inuet it’s incredibly crass to say you’d consider ending your life. Blimey some people.
Let's hope your family and friends never feel this way.
